For the period of May 2026, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire continues to remain at the top of the unit sales charts. In fact, Maruti models this time held dominance in the top three spots, while six of its models are part of the top 10 bestselling cars for the month. Notably, each of the top three models has a different body style, catering to different customer segments.
Furthermore, while the same cars from April 2026's top 10 list are present in May 2026 as well, several rank shake-ups have happened in the latter period, while some cars have held the same position. Apart from Maruti models, the top 10 cars sold in May 2026 comprised two Tata models, and one each from Mahindra and Hyundai.

1. Maruti Suzuki Dzire
24,546 units
The Dzire continues to hold the number one spot in monthly sales rankings. May 2026 saw 24,546 units of the compact sedan sold, representing 36 percent YoY growth from 18,084 units in May 2025. Compared to April 2026, the Dzire’s sales increased by 966 units. Priced between Rs 6.26 lakh and Rs 9.31 lakh, it takes on the Hyundai Aura, Tata Tigor, and Honda Amaze.
2. Maruti Suzuki Fronx
20,686 units
The Maruti Fronx jumped two spots to grab the number two spot in May 2026 sales rankings. With a YoY growth of 52 percent, the compact crossover sold 20,686 units in May 2026, up from 13,584 units in May 2025. Its sales grew by 1,857 units in May 2026 in comparison to April 2026 figures. A rival to the likes of the Nissan Magnite, Citroen C3, Toyota Taisor, and Renault Kiger, it is priced from Rs 6.85 lakh to Rs 11.84 lakh.
3. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
20,350 units
The Ertiga manages to hold the third position for the second month in a row, whilst being the nation's best-selling MPV. 20,350 units of the MPV were sold in May 2026, with a YoY growth of 26 percent. Compared to April 2026 numbers, May 2026 sales grew by 1,287 units. The Ertiga is priced from Rs 8.8 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 12.94 lakh. It is Maruti’s answer to the likes of the Toyota Rumion and Kia Carens.
4. Tata Punch
20,208 units
Despite selling 1,101 units more than in April 2026, the Tata Punch and its EV counterpart slipped to fourth position in May 2026. Tata sold 20,208 units of the Punch in May 2026, with a modest 54 percent YoY growth rate. Priced from Rs 5.65 lakh to Rs 10.6 lakh, it rivals the Hyundai Exter and Citroen C3.
5. Tata Nexon
19,100 units
While the Punch slipped two spots, the larger Nexon gained two positions in May 2026 to grab the fifth spot. Tata’s compact SUV sold 19,100 units in May 2026 with a 46 percent YoY. Available in multiple powertrain options with a price range of Rs 7.37 lakh to Rs 14.02 lakh, it rivals the Maruti Brezza, Kia Syros, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Venue and the Skoda Kylaq.
6. Maruti Baleno
18,396 units
Maruti’s premium hatchback, the Baleno, sold 18,396 units in May 2026. Out of all the models in this list, it achieved the highest YoY rate of 58 percent. Compared to April 2026 sales numbers, it sold 90 more units this time. It's priced between Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 9.1 lakh and takes on the likes of the Tata Altroz and the Hyundai i20.
7. Maruti Wagon R
18,076 units
Maruti’s tall-boy hatch dropped two spots from the fifth position in May 2026 rankings with 18,076 units. Though the numbers grew 30 percent in comparison to May 2025, they fell 572 units short of April 2026 sales figures. Priced from Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 6.40 lakh, the Wagon R competes with the Maruti Celerio and Tata Tiago.
8. Maruti Swift
17,519 units
With 17,519 units sold in May 2026, the Swift recorded a 24 percent YoY growth. However, like the Wagon R, the Swift sold 310 units more in April 2026 in comparison to May 2026. The hatchback is priced from Rs 5.79 lakh to Rs 8.64 lakh, and takes on the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Tata Tiago.
9. Mahindra Scorpio
15,774 units
The Mahindra Scorpio’s sales managed to outdo those of the Hyundai Creta to grab the ninth position. May 2026 saw 15,774 units of the Classic and N models sold, recording 10 percent growth from the same month last year. The three-row SUVs sold 1,055 more units than in April 2026. The Scorpio N rivals the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV 7XO, and Tata Safari, while its price range between Rs 13.49 lakh and Rs 24.95 lakh.
10. Hyundai Creta
15,523 units
Though the Hyundai Creta continues to dominate mid-size SUV sales, growing competition from other brands has led to the lowest YoY growth on this list (3 per cent). The SUV sold 15,523 units in May 2026, which is 232 more than its April 2026 sales. However, it slipped past one spot to have the 10th position on this list. Priced between Rs 10.9 lakh and Rs 19.91 lakh, it rivals the Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, Renault Duster, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and Maruti Victoris.
