I want to buy a new SUV that offers the fuel efficiency and ownership experience of a hybrid like the Hyryder, the safety and road presence of the Scorpio N, and the comfort of a 6-seater automatic petrol like the XUV700. I also want to keep this new car for around 10-12 years. Please suggest a model that can meet most of these requirements.

While there isn't exactly a car that's as efficient as the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the road presence of a Mahindra Scorpio N, and has the comfort of an XUV700, a vehicle which could come close is the Mahindra XEV 9S.
Being an electric car, running costs will be very low, and comfort and road presence are similar to an XUV700. The Toyota Innova HyCross will be efficient and comfortable, although it won't offer the Scorpio-like road presence that you're looking for.

Hi, I am a proud owner of a Tata Aria for the last 15 years, and now I am looking to give it a final rest. I am considering the Safari, HyCross, and XUV700. As per your suggestion, which one would suit me best? My budget is between Rs 30 lakh to Rs 35 lakh.

The Toyota Innova HyCross hybrid is a no-nonsense MPV that delivers on all aspects - comfort, space, fuel efficiency, and with Toyota's backing, promises a trouble-free ownership experience. Since you like to keep your cars for a long time, the Innova Hycross hybrid is the safest bet.

The Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700 are tough SUVs, and while both are well-equipped, the Tata car is more comfortable than the Mahindra car for passengers seated in the third row. Meanwhile, the XUV700 is a lot smoother and more refined than the Tata Safari. If you are picking between these two, we'd suggest waiting for the heavily updated XUV700, expected in the first quarter of 2026.

Hi team, I am planning to buy a new car next year. I currently own a Kia Sonet GTX Plus and now want to move to a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine option. My budget is around ₹30 to 35 lakh maximum. I want strong performance, a good suspension setup, good handling and, most importantly, comfort for rear passengers and long drives. Kindly suggest which SUVs fit my budget. I have shortlisted the Jeep Compass Model S for its 4x4 option and the Mahindra XUV700 for its AWD option. I am open to other suggestions as well.

The Jeep Compass Model S is the more premium option, with a higher-quality interior and stronger badge value. However, it's also quite a bit more expensive when you consider the top 4x4 version, and most of all, for your requirements, the rear seat isn't all that spacious.
You should definitely go with the Mahindra XUV700 AWD, as it offers more space in the back as well as more features. Its 2.2-litre diesel engine is strong (and so is the 2.0 petrol, in case you're interested), and ride quality and handling are very good too.
If you can wait a little bit, a facelifted version of the XUV700 is arriving in early 2026, which should be improved in many areas, especially when it comes to features. In the meantime, check out our Tata Harrier vs Mahindra XUV700 vs Jeep Compass video.

My priority for getting a new car is a bit different from usual. I have three dogs (all medium-to-large breeds: Golden Retriever, Labrador and Indian Pariah), and I like travelling with them on long road trips once every quarter. My previous car was a 2014 Honda Amaze MT, which was very cramped. My requirements are an SUV that is powerful and safe. Maintenance and fuel costs can be a little high. My preferred budget is Rs 15 lakh, but I can stretch to Rs 20-22 lakh if it is worth it. I love driving and music and prefer a manual transmission, though I can consider an automatic. The EcoSport’s flatbed was interesting for my use case.

You may consider the Kia Syros for its roomy cabin. Its boxy shape makes it surprisingly spacious on the inside, and its rear windows roll down almost fully, which your four-legged members will appreciate.
The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine of this Kia car is adequately powerful, and its controls are light, making it quite user-friendly. Its music system is quite good too. You could also consider entry-level variants of the Mahindra XUV700 for its sheer size and cabin space.

My monthly driving is around 2,000 km, with 80 percent city usage and 20 percent highway. I want to purchase an SUV for a family of four. I am looking for an economical yet powerful car. I am confused between the Creta SX(O) Diesel AT, Seltos GT Diesel AT, XUV700 AX5 Diesel AT, and Scorpio Z8. Please guide me on what I should buy, as I want a performance-driven car and prefer a diesel over a petrol. The car should be strong in power and handling, and also be feature- and tech-loaded.

The Creta's and Seltos' 1.5-litre diesel engine will be efficient, while the XUV700's and Scorpio N's 2.2-litre diesel will be powerful and punchy.
Since power and handling are priorities, go for the Mahindra XUV700. Further, with twin screens and a large sunroof, among other features, the XUV is well-equipped, and these modern niceties further add to the overall feel-good factor.

Is it worth exchanging my Kia Carens for the latest Mahindra XUV700? My Carens has done 30,000 km, is in showroom condition, and has a 2-year extended warranty currently active.

If your Kia Carens is running fine and you don't mind holding onto it for some more time, wait for the Mahindra XUV700 facelift that's expected in the first quarter of 2026.

It will have a thoroughly updated exterior, interior, as well as an equipment list similar to the Mahindra XEV9S, which could include a three-screen layout.

I am ready to buy the XUV700 AX7L. Should I wait for the facelift or buy it now?

The Mahindra XUV700 facelift is due early January, so we would definitely recommend you wait for it.

However, if you are keen on getting a good price, you can bargain with the dealer to get you good discount on the current model. Towards the year-end, customers tend to delay purchases to get a 'newer year' registration, thus dealers are keen to sell cars in December and tend to offer discounts to offset this.

Further with the facelift also due, you could really strike a good bargain. Thus, consider the current car only if you can get a very good deal.

Planning to buy an SUV with a 2,000cc engine. Please advise which one would be good.

It's hard to recommend a car without knowing your budget or more about your requirements. However, since you are specific about a 2000cc SUV, we would assume it is strong performance you are after.
Check out the Mahindra XUV700. The 2.0 L petrol delivers excellent performance and refinement, but fuel efficiency will not be very good. Expect single-digit figures in the city. Also, if you can wait, there will be a facelift coming early next year.

I want a 7-seater diesel car with good mileage. My daily driving is around 30 km on the city or village roads. I’m confused between the Alcazar and the XUV700 - which should I choose?

The Hyundai Alcazar and Mahindra XUV700 are both competent SUVs. However, given your requirements, the Hyundai Alcazar would be a better fit for you.

The Hyundai Car is slightly smaller in terms of dimensions, and that, coupled with its light control, means it's easier to drive in the city. It also gets a refined 116hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine that can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The Hyundai Alcazar mileage is 20.4kpl for the diesel manual and 18.1kpl for the automatic (company claimed).

I’m looking for real-world feedback on the XUV700 vs the Scorpio N. Which one offers better overall value for money and long-term reliability? How different are the engine refinement and performance between the two? In terms of safety and build quality, which SUV feels more confidence-inspiring on the road? Finally, how do their actual fuel-efficiency figures compare in city and highway conditions?

The Mahindra Scorpio N is a ladder-frame SUV, meaning the body is bolted onto a chassis. This construction makes it more hardy, however, the Scorpio N will have that typical body sway that is associated with chassis vehicles.

The ride is thus not settled over undulations, and this is where the Mahindra XUV700 is better. It utilizes a monocoque construction, which is where all components are bolted to the body shell itself. This gives the car overall better rigidity, resulting in better ride and handling, something that is noticeably better with the XUV700.

Engine refinement and performance are similar, given that the two SUVs share the same powertrains. However, real-world efficiency is better with the XUV700 as it has active safety. Also, the XUV700 has better and more stable handling at higher speeds.
