Mahindra has launched the XUV 7XO SUV in India with introductory prices starting from Rs 13.66 lakh, ex-showroom. Essentially a Mahindra XUV700 facelift, the XUV 7XO gets some new design elements inside and out, making it look bolder and fresher. Additionally, it gets more modern-day convenience and safety features. Let’s lay out all the similarities and differences between the two.
Mahindra XUV 7XO vs XUV700: Exterior design
Gets a redesigned grille and new headlights
The new Mahindra XUV 7XO gets a new fascia. It features a bolder grille finished in a gloss-black theme and has silver slats like the XUV 3XO, Scorpio N and Bolero.
The XUV 7XO’s dual-barrel headlight design looks similar to that of the Scorpio N, and while the C-shape for the LED daytime running lamps (DRLs) continues, the headlamp pod has changed. Unlike the pre-facelift model, the dynamic turn indicators are not integrated into the DRLs and are placed beneath the projector headlight unit.
The bumper also gets redesigned air intakes and a faux silver skid plate. It also features two pixel-shaped fog lamps instead of the single unit in the XUV700.
Features bigger 19-inch wheels and new gloss-black cladding
In profile, the XUV 7XO features 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, which are a size up from the XUV700’s 18-inch units. It also gets gloss-black cladding on the wheel arches and the lower edges of the body. Other than this, it continues with flush-type door handles, black roof rails and a chrome trim that runs along the window line.
Tail-lights inspired by XEV 9S EV
At the rear, the XUV 7XO looks similar to the XEV 9S, especially because of its wraparound LED tail-light design and roof-mounted spoiler. The bumper has been redesigned with new reflector elements and a gloss-black finish. There’s also a faux silver skid plate, but its size has reduced compared to the pre-facelift model.
Mahindra XUV 7XO vs XUV700: Interior design
Features a new three-colour cabin
While the XUV700 had a white and black theme, the new XUV 7XO’s interior is a mix of black, beige and tan, making it look more upmarket than before. This theme is also continued in the leatherette seat upholstery. The SUV also gets a new 2-spoke steering wheel with a gloss-black finish.
The XUV 7XO continues to offer a choice between 6- and 7-seat layouts, with the second-row captain seats reserved for the higher trims. The XUV 7XO gets multi-colour ambient lighting not just on its dashboard and front doors but also on the rear doors.
A three-screen setup, powered-co-driver’s seat, and more
Like the XEV 9e and XEV 9S, the XUV 7XO features a triple-screen setup, consisting of a 12.3-inch screen each for the driver’s display, an infotainment system and a dedicated passenger display, that too from the base-spec AX trim. The XUV700 featured dual 10.25-inch screens on its dashboard.
Other new features include a 6-way electrically adjustable co-driver’s seat with powered boss mode, rear ventilated seats, two wireless phone chargers, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos and a 540-degree surround-view camera that also shows the feed from under the SUV’s bonnet. It continues with a panoramic sunroof, a 6-way powered driver’s seat with memory function, Level 2 ADAS and an electronic parking brake.
Mahindra XUV 7XO vs XUV700: Powertrain options
Powered by the same turbo-petrol and diesel engines as before
The Mahindra XUV 7XO continues with the same powertrain options as the outgoing XUV700. These include a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that puts out 203hp (3hp more than the XUV700) and 380Nm, and a 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces up to 185hp and 450Nm. These engines are offered with 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission options. Notably, the diesel-automatic option is also available with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup in the higher variants.
The price of the XUV 7XO is between Rs 13.66 lakh and Rs 24.92 lakh (introductory). While the XUV700’s base variant had a similar price, its top-end variant cost Rs 23.71 lakh, which is Rs 1.21 lakh less than the fully loaded XUV 7XO.
The XUV 7XO continues to lock horns with the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus.
XUV 7XO’s ex-showroom prices are for the first 40,000 deliveries.
