The Mahindra XUV 7XO has received a 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP for both adult and child occupant protection. It scored 30.76 out of 32 points in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) test and 44.97 out of 49 points in the Child Occupant Protection (COP) test. Bharat NCAP tested the 7-seater AX7 diesel-automatic FWD and AWD variants, but the 5-star safety rating applies to all variants of the XUV 7XO.

Frontal offset deformable barrier test: 14.76/16 points; Side-movable deformable barrier test: 16/16 points
In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the driver’s head, neck, pelvis, thighs and feet received ‘good’ protection, while protection to the chest and tibia was ‘adequate’. Except for the co-driver’s tibiae, which received ‘adequate’ protection, all other critical parts received ‘good’ protection.
In the side-movable deformable barrier test, all critical parts of the passenger, including head, chest, abdomen and pelvis, received ‘good’ protection. In the side pole impact test (pole), the verdict was ‘OK’.

For the COP tests, the child seats of both the 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies in the XUV 7XO were rearward-facing. The test report suggests that the frontal crash test on the 18-month-old dummy resulted in 7.97 points out of 8, while the 3-year-old dummy received a full 8 out of 8 points. Both dummies, however, scored a full 4 out of 4 points in the side crash test.
This reduction of 0.03 points resulted in the Mahindra XUV 7XO achieving 23.97 out of 24 points in the dynamic child protection score. It further received a CRS installation score of 12 out of 12, but lost 4 points in the vehicle assessment score, resulting in an overall score of 44.97 out of 49 points.
Standard safety features on the XUV 7XO include 6 airbags, hill-hold and hill-descent assists, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, traction control and ESC. Higher variants also get a 360-degree camera, Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
Notably, the pre-facelift model, called the XUV700, was crash-tested in 2021 by Global NCAP and received a 5-star safety rating for AOP and a lower 4-star rating for COP.
