Hello, I work abroad & want to buy a new car for my family of 5. Initially, it will be used by my daughter for city driving with limited weekly usage. I am looking for a car that is easy to drive in traffic, safe, fuel-efficient, and suitable for long trips when I visit during the holidays. It should be easy for women to drive in the city, yet strong and stable on highways and ghats. My budget is around ₹20 to 25 lakh. When I was last in Chennai, I almost bought the Thar Roxx AX7L. I plan to make the purchase in June 2026.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx is far more comfortable than the three-door version, but as a family car, the ride is still on the firmer side. Within your budget, if most of your driving is on the road, there are more comfortable options available.
Within Mahindra, you could wait for the XUV 7XO, which is expected to launch in January 2025 and is essentially the facelifted XUV700. Despite its size, it will be easy to drive, and the petrol and diesel engines are well-suited for both city and highway use. Given your limited driving, the petrol makes more sense. It will also be more spacious, with a larger boot, and being a 7 seater, it gives you added versatility whenever you need the extra seats. We expect the top AX7 petrol variant to fit within your budget.
If you want something smaller and more efficient, you could also consider the new Tata Sierra. Even the top turbo-petrol automatic fits within your budget, and based on our experience, this Tata car delivers good driving pleasure and comfort while offering a class-leading feature list. The smaller 1.5-litre engine, while down on power compared to Mahindra’s 2.0-litre, is still strong enough and should prove to be more economical as well.

I am planning to buy a new car. Currently owning a 2022 Creta. I am confused between the Tata Sierra Turbo petrol accomplished + and the Mahindra XUV 700 AX7 model, as the prices are quite similar for both these models. Not sure which one will make better sense, and also the one that will be easier to manage for a long period of ownership
The Tata Sierra and Mahindra XUV700 are slightly different vehicles, and it depends on your requirements and priorities. Also, the Mahindra XUV700 is due to be discontinued and replaced in Jan 2026 with the XUV7X0, which is essentially an upgraded XUV700.
If you want power and performance, the Mahindra XUV 7XO, with its strong petrol and diesel engine options, is the one for you. However, the petrol engine is a bit of a guzzler and will burn a hole in your pocket. Another reason to buy the XUV7X0 is the space and the on-board tech, which is very impressive.
The Tata Sierra is a more compact car, which makes it much easier to park and manoeuvre, and overall it's easier to drive thanks to fantastic all-round visibility. The Sierra’s 1.5 turbo-petrol, though nowhere near as powerful as the XUV7X0’s 2-litre petrol, is smooth and strong enough to give you enough punch for everyday driving. Also, a plus is the 6-speed auto, which is jerk-free and refined.
The Sierra’s long-term performance is not yet known, and Tata’s poor reputation for quality and service precedes it. However, since it's made in a new plant with a far better quality culture, we are hopeful that with the Sierra, Tata will put this reputation behind it. We would lean towards the Sierra as it's a similar kind of car to the Hyundai Creta, which you are currently using.

I want to buy a seven-seater car with decent boot space. I am open to ICE or EV options, and my budget is around Rs 20-22 lakh. My monthly running is around 1,000 km. Please suggest a comfortable, feature-loaded vehicle with a sunroof option.
The Mahindra XUV700 is a good option to consider. It is spacious, comfortable, and feature-loaded. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is punchy and refined, and the 7-seater version has a decent boot space as well. The XUV700 is also available with a sunroof.
The only downside of this Mahindra car is that the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is not very fuel-efficient, and you will need to be comfortable with the fact that the XUV700 is not a very frugal car.

I am looking to buy an SUV with a budget of up to Rs 22-23 lakh. My must-haves are a minimum 3-star safety rating, excellent suspension, at least 13 kmpl fuel efficiency with a 60% city and 40% highway usage pattern with about 10k Kms annual running, a minimum of 400 litres of boot space with a spare wheel, a reliable automatic transmission and the ability to pre-cool or pre-heat the car before entering it, and a fuss-free ownership experience for at least 13 years.
The Mahindra XUV700 is a good option to consider. It is spacious, has a comfortable ride, and the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is refined and punchy. The automatic gearbox is smooth, and the cabin is well-built and feature-rich.
The only downside is that the third row is best suited for children, and the boot space is not as big as in some rivals. This Mahindra car is also available with a 2.2-litre diesel engine, but it is not as refined as the petrol.

I want to buy an SUV as big as the Innova. It should look good, have an engine capacity of 2,000cc or more, and deliver decent mileage, all within a budget of Rs 22 lakh. Please advise whether I should choose petrol or diesel, and whether a sunroof is worth opting for. There are only two of us, so cabin space is not a priority, but we need a large boot as we carry a lot of luggage.
The Mahindra XUV700 is a good option to consider. It is spacious, has a large boot, and is available with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine.
The petrol engine is smooth and refined, and while it is not as punchy as the diesel, it is quite tractable and will be more than adequate for your needs. The diesel engine, on the other hand, is quite punchy and will be better suited for highway drives.
Both engines are available with a choice of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The automatic is quite smooth and responsive, and it will make your daily commute quite hassle-free.

The Mahindra XUV700 is a good option to consider. It is spacious, comfortable, and comes with a 7-seater configuration and will fit within your budget. The XUV700 also comes with a long list of features, including cruise control, which is part of the standard equipment.
However, if you can, we would recommend waiting a bit as an updated version - called the XUV 7XO - will be launching early this month. You then benefit from having the newer car and all the updates it would bring. However, bear in mind the price may go up a bit.

I purchased a Hyundai Grand i10 petrol in 2015. I am now planning to upgrade to a 7-seater vehicle. My usage is 90% highway and 105 city. Since I travel to my farmland frequently, my priorities are safety, comfort, and performance. I am not interested in the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga or XL6 due to safety concerns and outdated looks, and I am also not interested in the Kia Carens.
We suggest waiting for the Mahindra XUV 7XO, which is the updated XUV700, and bookings are now open. It is expected to get more features and design tweaks to keep it feeling fresh. This Mahindra car will remain spacious and comfortable with strong engines. The 2.0 litre turbo petrol is smooth and punchy, and the 2.2 litre diesel is tractable with strong performance.
The current Mahindra XUV700 already offers features like a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, a Sony sound system, and the new 7XO will be even better equipped.

I already own a Fortuner, Thar, and Harrier. Did I make a good decision by buying the XUV700? I chose it because it is fun to drive and has unbeatable power. Was it a good decision?
The Mahindra XUV700 is a good choice. It is a well-rounded SUV that offers a spacious and comfortable cabin, and the diesel engine is punchy and fun to drive. The XUV700 is also feature-loaded and gets a long list of equipment, and the tech on offer is quite impressive.
The only bit to consider is that a facelift is right around the corner, and you might feel shortchanged. However, the car will likely be pricier, and since it isn’t an all-new generation, the current XUV700 remains a very well-rounded option.

I am planning to upgrade from an XUV700 to a Jeep Compass. Will it truly be an upgrade, and does it make sense? Is it worth it?
Moving to a Jeep Compass from an Mahindra XUV 700 will definitely not be an upgrade. The XUV 700 is more powerful, better equipped, a lot more spacious and practical and nicer to drive.
The only area where the Compass has an advantage is while off-roading where the suspension performs well and the dimensions help traverse tough terrain. Apart from that one plus point, you will not find the Compass as an upgrade to the XUV 700.

Dear Autocar Team, I am confused about selecting a 7-seater. I am 54 years 54-year-old male and am 5'8". I own a Dzire (diesel), which is close to 11 years old. Now I feel it is a good time to go for a little bigger car within 25 lakhs. I have tested the Mahindra XUV700 diesel AT and liked the driving experience. Now the local dealerships are saying that they are out of stock. Now what should I do, wait for the facelift or go for the Invicto hybrid (the HyCross is out of budget for me)? Please advise.
The Mahindra XUV700 is due for an update, and the model (XUV 7XO as it will be called) goes on sale in January 2026. We'd recommend you wait for it, especially since you liked the driving experience.
The Maruti Suzuki Invicto is a very different kind of vehicle that prioritises passenger comfort and fuel economy. The Invicto has the far nicer third row and makes for a more sensible pick if you will be travelling often with all seats in use. Also, while the Invicto isn't quite as nice to drive as the XUV700, the hybrid system does deliver amazing fuel economy numbers for a vehicle of this size.
