I am looking for a car primarily for city driving, with a budget of Rs 10 to 12 lakh. Comfort and safety are my top priorities. I do not want an AMT gearbox, and I would prefer a model that offers a 360-degree camera for easier parking.

The Tata Altroz would be a good choice. The car is comfortable with a very good and plush ride quality, even over harsh surfaces. Safety, too, is well addressed with good features and a 5-star crash test rating too.
This Tata car also gets a 360-degree camera, and the petrol engine is paired to a dual clutch auto transmission (DCT), so it meets your other specific requirements too.

Which is the best car under 7.5 lakh? Nissan Magnite, Tata Altroz, or Maruti Baleno? Is the Nissan Magnite a good option to buy?

The Nissan Magnite is a good option to consider. It is spacious, has a comfortable ride, and the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is punchy and efficient. Plus, it has an SUV-like road presence that the other two hatchbacks lack. It also received a 5-star crash test rating from Global NCAP.
The Tata Altroz also has a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, as well as a spacious cabin, comfortable ride, and good features. However, the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine in the Nissan Magnite is more efficient.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is the most efficient of the lot, but hasn't been updated in a while, and is now starting to show its age.

Hello team. I’m selling my old i20 and planning to buy a new car. I’ve shortlisted the Tata Altroz, Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza and Maruti Dzire. My priorities are an automatic transmission, good mileage, 4/5-star safety, an armrest and a rear wiper. I’m attracted to the Glanza for its styling and the UV-cut glass on the top variant. My maximum budget is ₹10.5-11 lakh on-road in Telangana. Please suggest which is best.

The Toyota Glanza is a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Baleno, and the only difference between the two is the badge, some interior trim colours and the warranty. The Glanza is sold with a 3-year/1,00,000km warranty, while the Baleno gets a 2-year/40,000km warranty.

The Glanza is a good option if you like the way it looks, and the UV cut glass is a must-have feature for you. However, if you are looking for a car that will hold its value better, then the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is the better option, and also features UV cut class.

The Tata Altroz does get you the option of a diesel engine, and a DCT automatic, which is the more sophisticated auto gearbox here. However, you could also consider the new Hyundai i20, which comes with a CVT auto or a DCT with its powerful turbo engine.

I am planning to buy the Tata Altroz Pure S AMT. Can you suggest the best alternative options from Hyundai or Honda within a ₹10 lakh budget? Which of these will offer the most ease and comfort for both long drives and city driving?

Your choice of the Tata Altroz is good, the car delivers a very good ride, is spacious and safe too. If you would like to check out an alternate, have a look at the Maruti Suzuki Baleno

Like the Altroz, you will find that the Baleno too has ample interior space, has a good ride quality, and it's safe too, and of course, will also come in under your Rs 10 lakh budget.

Asked by: Thakoron Dec 6, 2025

Tata has introduced a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with the new Sierra. Will Tata replace their existing 3-cylinder petrol engines in the Punch, Altroz, and Nexon with this 4-cylinder NA petrol engine?

The Punch, Altroz and Nexon benefit from a lower tax slab since they fulfil two key requirements - their length is less than 4 meters, and their petrol engine capacity is less than 1200cc.
Even if one of the criteria is not fulfilled, these cars will fall under a higher tax bracket, resulting in a higher price. So, to answer your question, it is highly unlikely that the company will introduce Tata Sierra's 1.5L petrol in these compact cars.

I am getting a good deal on a used car on a good platform. The only issue is that it has a VIP number plate. It has also been listed for sale for the last two months. Could this create any issues?

If your concern is that the vehicle is wearing a fancy number plate with an unusual font, this will have to be changed by you at the earliest, since installing high-security registration plates in Maharashtra is mandatory.
However, if your concern is that the vehicle is not selling for two months despite a special number on its plate, that shouldn't be much of a concern - not everyone desires special number/s; a particular number for one person might not have any relevance for another. So if you are getting a good deal, and you are convinced that the used car is ideal for you, go for it.

I’m buying my first car and want an automatic hatchback for mainly city driving with occasional long trips. My budget is around ₹12 lakh. I’m torn between the Hyundai i20 and the Tata Altroz - I’m worried about Tata’s after-sales service and the i20’s mileage. I’ve researched for months and still need guidance. Thanks!

If you are looking for a peace of mind ownership experience, we suggest the Hyundai i20. Its smooth 1.2 litre four cylinder petrol engine and CVT transmission make city driving a breeze. You can choose the Hyundai i20 Sportz or Sportz O variant depending on your feature preferences.

As for efficiency, neither the i20 nor the Tata Altroz will be rated as very good, but both offer acceptable figures for what they deliver.

My daily running is around 20 km, with 8 to 10 family short trips in a year. Please suggest whether I should buy a CNG, hybrid, or look for an electric car. My budget is around ₹20 lakh.

All the powertrain options you have listed command an initial premium over their corresponding petrol versions. And going by your limited usage, it is difficult to justify this premium. Hence, opting for a petrol is your best bet.
Still, if you want to keep running costs lower, consider getting a CNG car, which could cost you approximately Rs 80,000-100,000 more than a petrol car, which is a relatively smaller premium compared to a hybrid and electric car. Be prepared for relatively longer wait times while refilling at CNG pumps.

Hi, I am planning to buy an automatic car under 10 Lakh rupees. I was in a dilemma between the i20 Sportz IVT and the Tata Altroz Creative AMT. Which one would suit both city and highway driving with good fuel efficiency? Please advise.

Pick the AMT version of the Tata Altroz only if fuel efficiency is extremely important to you. Do keep in mind, the AMT is quite jerky, and the drive won't be as seamless as the Hyundai i20 CVTs or as the Altroz DCA's, both of which are far smoother options.
If you love the Altroz for what it is, consider spending a bit more and getting the dual-clutch automatic version for a much superior drive experience.

Asked by: Alokon Nov 25, 2025

My budget is ₹10 lakh. My daily usage is around 80 km in the city, and I also do a 400 km highway trip once a month. Which car should I buy?

Given that your running is within the city, a compact automatic would be ideal. The Nissan Magnite CVT would suit you well, though it is at the upper end of your budget. As a daily driver, you will find the CVT gearbox smoother than an automated manual (AMT), which is what most others offer at this price point.
Further, you will also find Magnite's engine performance very good on your highway trips, and the ride is stable and confident. You can also consider the Tata Altroz, which offers a good ride, compact dimensions, and a choice of a dual-clutch-auto (DCT) or a more affordable AMT.
