Comfortable Cars Under 13 Lakh

Mahindra Cars is one of India’s best SUV manufacturers. Its SUV journey began in 1949, when Mahindra started assembling the Jeep CJ-Series in India. The Bolero arrived in 2000, establishing Mahindra in the rugged utility-vehicle segment, and the Scorpio followed in 2002, bringing the brand into the mainstream SUV market. The Thar arrived in 2010, adding a lifestyle and off-road focus, while the XUV500 marked Mahindra’s move towards more premium family SUVs.
Over the years, Mahindra has expanded its SUV portfolio across different sizes and use cases, making it one of India’s largest SUV manufacturers. Its range now spans sub-4-metre, compact, mid-size and large SUVs, along with rugged pickups and premium electric SUVs, with 5-, 6- and 7-seat options across the line-up. The Bolero and Bolero Neo focus on budget, rural and rugged utility needs, while the XUV 3XO and Scorpio Classic cater to everyday SUV buyers. The Scorpio N, Thar and Thar Roxx add more lifestyle and off-road capability, while the XUV700 and XUV 7XO target buyers looking for more space, features and family-focused practicality.
Mahindra has also made a significant move into the electric car segment with its dedicated INGLO EV architecture. The BE 6 and XEV 9e introduced Mahindra’s new generation of electric SUVs, followed by the XUV 3XO EV at a more accessible point in the range and the XEV 9S, which brings three-row practicality to Mahindra’s EV portfolio. This gives Mahindra a mix of conventional petrol and diesel SUVs alongside its growing range of electric models.

I am looking for a diesel car priced around Rs 15-16 lakh with good fuel efficiency. I already own a Kia Sonet and a Hyundai Venue. What else should I consider?
Hi Autocar Team, I am currently driving a 2014 Honda City diesel and am looking to replace it with an EV. A few options I have in mind are the Mahindra BE 6 Pack One, Tata Sierra Pure 63 kWh, and MG Windsor EV. My budget is under Rs. 20 lakh. I would appreciate your suggestions and recommendations.
Hi Autocar Team, I am looking to buy a new automatic car within a budget of Rs. 16 lakh. I have been driving a second-hand manual Hyundai i10 for almost a year now. My usage is mainly within city limits, often in traffic, with occasional highway drives. Could you suggest the best options that offer good value for money and a comfortable driving experience?

The Mahindra Scorpio 7XO AX7L version is a better choice, especially without ADAS. It hits the sweet spot for an upgrade.

This car feels like you are the road king. The black color and looks are next level. People complain that back seats are small, but there are tricks to efficiently use the back seats. Just take the car for a test drive, and you will feel the difference.

Mahindra Bolero has been a tough SUV for decades and continues to be rock-solid in India. With improved interior quality and a practical infotainment display, it pushes boundaries in its segment.

I test drove this car, another feather in the cap of Mahindra's Make in India initiatives. The drive was awesome, very smooth, good road handling capabilities and space.

The product experience is superb, meeting our expectations for family travel and boot space. Driving feels good with better visibility and a higher sitting posture, which boosts driver confidence. Mileage is around 18.3 km/l in normal mode, and no power issues while overtaking.

Mahindra is improving day by day. They are the second largest automobile company in India, selling about 50 thousand cars per month. Mahindra is known for diesel engines, but their electric vehicles are also gaining popularity. The XUV 3XO EV is good but overpriced compared to competitors. It only offers about 250 km range, which isn't great for the price.

XUV 7XO is a nice car with a great mix of robust build quality and modern features. The suspension is much improved compared to the earlier model. However, the service feedback and resale are not as good as Korean and Japanese cars. Despite this, I recommend the 7XO, especially in petrol guise.
View all XUV 7XO ReviewsWhile Mahindra's legacy is rooted in SUVs and farm equipment like tractors, the company launched the Logan sedan in April 2007 as a joint venture with Renault. This was followed by the Verito and Verito Vibe hatchback a few years later.
Only a handful of Mahindra's body-on-frame SUVs come equipped with old-school mechanical four-wheel drive systems with a low-ratio transfer case and a locking differential.
While new Tata SUVs are all based on monocoque platforms, select Mahindra models are still available with rugged body-on-frame architecture for those who wish to go off-roading regularly without worrying about accidental structural damage.
