Mahindra Thar OG Expert Review

The Thar facelift will get a revised exterior design, with spy images confirming several changes inspired by the Thar Roxx. It will feature a new grille, projector LED headlights with C shaped DRLs, redesigned alloy wheels and revised tail lamps with C shaped lighting elements. The front and rear bumpers are also expected to be redesigned.

The Thar facelift is expected to get some additional features while retaining much of the existing equipment. A wireless phone charger is expected to be added, while the current model’s 10.25 inch touchscreen, rear AC vents, rear wiper and washer and rear view camera are likely to continue. More equipment could be offered on higher variants.

The overall cabin layout of the three door Thar facelift is expected to remain largely unchanged. It will continue with the familiar dashboard design, circular AC vents and physical controls for the climate control system. Select variants are expected to get leatherette upholstery, while the steering wheel will feature a gloss black Twin Peaks logo.

The Thar facelift is expected to retain the existing petrol and diesel engine options, so there is unlikely to be a significant change in mileage. The 2.0 litre turbo petrol, 1.5 litre diesel and 2.2 litre diesel engines are expected to continue, paired with six speed manual and automatic gearbox options depending on the variant.

The facelift will largely retain the Thar’s existing mechanical package, with the 2.0 litre turbo petrol, 1.5 litre diesel and 2.2 litre diesel engines expected to continue. Six speed manual and six speed torque converter automatic gearboxes will be offered depending on the engine. Mahindra is also expected to make improvements to cabin insulation, which should make the three door Thar more refined in everyday driving.

The Thar facelift will retain its body on frame construction and off road focused mechanical package. Spy images have confirmed that the facelift is primarily an exterior and equipment update rather than a fundamental change to the SUV’s architecture. Mahindra is expected to make some changes to the suspension and ride quality, although the extent of these changes will only be clear after we drive the updated model.

The Thar facelift will bring a fresher exterior design and is expected to add some new features while retaining the existing powertrain options. Prices are expected to increase over the outgoing model, although the final positioning will depend on the variant wise equipment and pricing. It will continue to compete with the Force Gurkha and Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
