Hi experts, I have a query regarding our next family car purchase. We currently own a 2008 Hyundai Santro that has covered around 77,000 km so far. My parents are now planning to upgrade to a more spacious 7-seater. Pick the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 petrol manual. Your driving is mostly highway and you plan to keep it 10-12 years, and this one feels the most relaxed and secure at speed, with a comfy second row and a big, usable boot when the third row is folded. The performance, refinement and reliability of the engine is also very good but the only downside is a low fuel economy, single digits or low double digit figures if you are careful. But since your driving is low this should not be a big issue. The XUV 7XO is E20-ready, as are the others, so your ethanol worry for the next decade is largely covered. If blends rise beyond E20 later, expect a small drop in economy across all petrol rather than a single clear loser. Between the rest, the Tata Safari would be an option, as it too offers a very good ride quality and stability at speed is good. The third row is also more comfortable but this would not be an advantage for you given that it would remain a luggage area only. As for the Scorpio N, it is tough but heavy and bouncy on long highway runs and noticeably thirstier; it suits rough roads more than long fast cruises. The Alcazar is easier to drive in the city and will use less fuel, but it is narrower, and it does not feel as planted or as reassuring as the Mahindra or the Tata on long highways.

We are a family of four, and my budget is up to Rs. 10 lakh. I am looking for a car that is safe, fun to drive, fuel-efficient, and stable on highways. It should also be comfortable for three passengers in the rear seat, have a good sound system, effective air conditioning, and sufficient boot space. The maintenance and service network should also be hassle-free. My running is usually at weekends, 60% city and 40% rural. I prefer a petrol manual only. Is there any ideal family car which fits into my requirements, or do I need to stretch my budget a bit, say by 1-2 lakhs, to get a car suiting my requirements? Please suggest. The Kia Syros HTK (base) Turbo-Petrol MT variant is an excellent family car that seems to meet your requirements of comfort, highway stability and good air-conditioning. Additionally, this car is surprisingly spacious despite being under four metres in length. Alternatively, you could consider the new Hyundai Venue HX2 Turbo-petrol MT or Mahindra XUV 3XO RevX M. Both of which are good options, and should be in the Rs 10 lakh on-road price.If you're keen to explore used options, we'd recommend getting the newest possible example covered by factory warranty for added peace of mind. You could consider a Honda City or Maruti Grand Vitara (or Toyota Hybrid), which are safe, sensible options that should be priced at around Rs 10 lakh.

Hello Team, I am looking forward to buying a car, probably a mid-sized SUV. I am presently driving a WagonR and occasionally a Tata Punch and i20. The cars in my mind are Creta, Seltos, Kushaq, Taigun and Elevate. I mostly drive within the city (Hyderabad and Mumbai) and 1-2 long drives per month. I am looking for an all-rounder vehicle which gives me a good driving experience, efficiency and accommodates a family of 4-5. I have gone through all vehicles, but couldn't decide on one( planning to test drive all vehicles soon). I also heard that Creta and Elevate are getting an upgrade/facelift by the end of this year. Should I wait for them to decide or go ahead with these? Looking forward for expert opinion.

Buy the Kia Seltos; it hits your mix of big-city commuting in Hyderabad/Mumbai, and 1-2 highway runs a month better than the others. The 1.5 petrol with the automatic is easy in traffic, returns sensible mileage, and the light controls make it a painless jump from the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R. Cabin space and boot are genuinely family-friendly for 4-5 with luggage, and higher trims add city-friendly kit like the 360 camera and ventilated seats that you will actually use in summer. The only real trade-off is a slightly firm low-speed ride, and that top trims can stretch the budget.The Hyundai Creta is a close second if you prefer a softer, comfier feel. The Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun are the most fun to drive, but the rear seat and boot are tighter for five. The Honda Elevate is simple and efficient, but it feels a step behind on features.About waiting: the next-gen Hyundai Creta is expected early next year. Test mules have been spotted in India, which usually means it is in the final testing stages. It will move to the current Seltos K3 platform, which should mean a roomier cabin. It will also feature a new design language and a significantly improved interior. It's worth remembering that new launches are frequently delayed, and it's hard to be certain until an official confirmation from Hyundai. If you need a car soon, then get the Seltos now.

I am looking to buy an SUV with a budget of Rs 17 lakh and have shortlisted the Hyundai Creta S(O) Summer Edition with the 1.5 NA petrol manual. However, I am worried that the mileage will be too low. Should I increase my budget and go for the diesel instead? Also, what precautions should I take if I choose the diesel considering DPF-related issues? My colleagues say the Creta has an AdBlue tank, so there will not be any DPF issues and that these problems are mainly for cars without AdBlue. Is that correct? Please guide me.

Stick with the Hyundai Creta 1.5 petrol S(O) manual unless you regularly do long highway runs and rack up 1,500-2,000 km a month. In typical city-heavy use, the petrol will do about 10-12 kpl in traffic and 14-16 kpl on open roads, which is fine for your budget and avoids diesel complexity. The diesel costs more to buy and only pays back if you cover roughly 60,000 km or more; its real-world is about 13-15 kpl in city and 18-21 kpl on highways.Your colleagues are mixing things up. AdBlue and DPF are different. AdBlue (SCR) cuts NOx. The DPF traps soot. The Creta diesel has a DPF either way, and AdBlue does not prevent DPF clogging. DPF trouble pops up with short, stop-start city use.If you truly need the diesel, itโ€™s manageable with a few habits: do a 15-20 minute steady-speed drive every week or two, donโ€™t shut the engine mid active-regen, use good fuel, and avoid chronic short hops and idling. You will also need to top up AdBlue occasionally.

Hello Team Autocar! I am very impressed with the interiors of the 2026 Hyundai Venue, although I do not particularly like its exterior design. I am looking at the HX10 variant and, despite knowing that fuel efficiency is not great, I would like your opinion on its driving dynamics, steering feedback, and cornering ability. My commute will be split equally between very congested city traffic in Shillong and hilly roads between Shillong and Guwahati, with occasional drives on the plains of Assam. I currently drive a Skoda Kushaq Style 1.5 TSI MT and am considering the Venue as an addition to my garage. Thank you.

The Hyundai Venue is an easy-to-drive, comfy city runabout. On hilly, winding roads, it grips fine, the nose points in cleanly and body control in general is very good, but being a Kushaq owner, you could find yourself yearning for more driver connect. Thankfully, it gets drive modes which artificially add some weight and resistance to the steering, for a 'sportier' feel.For hilly areas, its 1.0-litre turbo-petrol has adequate pulling power, and the dual-clutch transmission works well too. Additionally, it gets steering-mounted paddle shifters to give you control over the gearbox. Do keep in mind that the transmission could heat up if you're holding the vehicle at a standstill on a slope in 'D' mode for a long. Also, it is best to shift to neutral and depress the brake if you know that the car will be stationary for a long time.In summary, the Venue might not feel as engaging or enjoyable as your Kushaq, but as a secondary car, it is a good option.
