I am looking to upgrade from my Hyundai Creta to a 7-seater SUV. My annual running is only around 6,000 km, and my budget is up to Rs. 25 lakh. Is the Hyundai Alcazar a good option for my usage? I have also considered the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari, but I am concerned about their relatively low fuel efficiency. Which 7-seater SUV would you recommend?

With a yearly running of just 6,000km, petrol is the sensible choice, and the Hyundai Alcazar is a good option. It is a comfortable, easy-to-drive family SUV with a hassle-free ownership experience, and the 1.5 turbo petrol engine paired with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic is powerful enough and relatively efficient too. Plus, since you're coming from a Creta, you'll be familiar with the Hyundai network and could even ask for a loyalty discount. However, the Alcazar’s third row is not as spacious as some larger cars in the segment, so if you genuinely need a proper 7-seater, it may not be the ideal solution. What's more, if your Creta is the 2020 or newer model, you'll find the Alcazar perhaps a little too familiar on the inside.

The Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus are good options that offer more space. However, as you have noted, they're not fuel efficient at all, and moreover, in your budget, you will only get a low to mid-spec variant, whereas you will get a fully-loaded Alcazar. Another option to consider, though not an SUV, is the Kia Carens Clavis. Its MPV shape is more space-efficient, and you actually get more passenger and luggage room than the Alcazar, with the same efficient engines, for around the same price.

@amollpatil you can totally start with Creta. It is easy to drive, reliable and pretty comfortable for beginners as well. But yeah, small cars are easy to drive in tight city traffic, so it really depends on you.

I bought Clavis DCT after lots of research and checking practical usable space for 7 passengers. Hyundai and Kia engines are identical. Happy with my decision.

@tarun.28 , Please consider KIA Carens Clavis, the tope model will be under 25 L on-road. Go to the showroom and check with any current owner. You'll get the honest feedback. I've done 3 years and 30000+ KMs in older Carens and still love the car. My family appreciates it as well. Very easy to live with vehicle and an easy and comfortable upgrade from your Creta. All othe big SUVs will have a learning curve and worse FE. Although others big engine SUV will have bigger road presence but inside cabin space is better in Carens. Also check the power to weight ratio. Carens is also not low on power in Sport mode (Top model)

If your animal running is only 6000 km per annum then why you want to buy a car deposit 25 lakh into Bank with the interest go to a cab and see one lakh something every year mujhe free driver you can go anywhere

It is one of the most spacious cars in the segment, with a genuinely usable third row and a comfortable ride that makes it an excellent family car. The petrol engine is smooth, refined and well suited to your running of under 1,000 km a month, where the hybrid premium is harder to justify.The Mahindra XUV 7XO is a strong alternative with a more powerful engine and a more feature-rich cabin, but the HyCross has the edge on space, comfort and long-term ownership experience.The Hyundai Alcazar and Kia Seltos are good cars, but they do not offer the same level of space or comfort, and the Renault Duster is more of a driver's car than a family car. The Toyota car mentioned above is the car you will be happiest with after five years of ownership.

It is reliable and spacious, but lacks power. I now live in Mumbai and am looking to buy an SUV for both city driving and long trips. I am a driving enthusiast and regularly go on long drives with my family. I typically do at least 1,000km when I come home for holidays every alternate month, while the car will remain mostly idle in the other months. My priorities are a powerful petrol engine producing at least 120hp, an automatic transmission and enough rear-seat space for three people. I don't want too many bells and whistles such as a panoramic sunroof, multiple screens, ADAS or ventilated seats. Basic features are sufficient for me. Please suggest a safe and reliable car for long-term use within a budget of Rs 20-30 lakh on-road. I am also open to considering a used car.

Hi, I have been using a sedan for the past 12 years. I want to purchase a midsize SUV for a usage of around 250 to 500 km per month and a long trip once in a quarter. I have shortlisted Creta, Kushaq, Elevate and Hyryder. My budget is between Rs. 16 lakh and 18 lakh. I want to use the car for the next 10 years. I want a car with a spacious cabin that has enough leg room and offers good riding comfort. Suggest me such a car.

With your low monthly running and long-term ownership plan, petrol is the right choice. The Honda Elevate is the best fit here. It offers a spacious cabin with good rear legroom, a comfortable ride and Honda’s reputation for long-term reliability. The naturally aspirated petrol engine is smooth and easy to live with, and the car is well suited to both city driving and occasional long trips. The Hyundai Creta is also a strong option with a more premium cabin and a slightly more comfortable ride, but the Elevate offers a bit more performance for highway use. The Skoda Kushaq is the driver’s car of the lot, but it is not as spacious as the rest. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder hybrid is a good, no-nonsense altenative. Go for the Elevate petrol CVT if you want an automatic, or the manual if you prefer to drive. It is the car you are most likely to be happy with after 10 years.

The Audi New Q3 might be significantly more expensive than the other options you've listed. However, if you're referring to the outgoing model available at a discounted price, we'd recommend you to certainly consider it. The Audi Q3 has a strong 2.0 TSI engine, and its ride comfort is excellent too. Additionally, the all-wheel drive system makes it an able handler. So if you like to drive, this one is certainly worth considering. You'll also appreciate the cabin quality and seat comfort. And while it has the basics, some features like ventilated seats, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, powered tailgate, etc are missing.The BMW X1 will be a lot more spacious in comparison, however its turbo-petrol engine doesn't match the Audi's performance or responsiveness.
