We are planning to upgrade from i20 Magna CVT 2018 model to a newer car under Rs.15 lakhs. My top priority is Kylaq Prestige+ AT due to the way it drives as per my experience during the test drive. It handles so well and just blazes past other cars for quick overtakes. However I am worried about its fuel efficiency. Is it gonna be too low? My second option was Venue HX5 Diesel Automatic but from what I am seeing so far with the DPF issues, I am worried that this car would be a bigger risk in the long term. That's because our long highway drives would only be once or twice a month at max, and sometimes not even that. Also, I am not seeing a lot of good reviews about this variant's mileage even though its a diesel engine. I am not planning for Mahindra or Tata since my previous experience with these brands has been sub-par. Usage-wise, we drive around 700 to 750 km monthly with a mixed use of 40% highways and 60% city roads where the traffic can get intense during peak hours in the evening. Please advice.

Go for the Skoda Kylaq Prestige+ AT. Your usage of 700-750 km a month with a 40:60 highway-to-city split does not justify a diesel, especially given your concerns about DPF issues and the fact that your highway runs are only once or twice a month. The Kylaq’s 1.0 TSI turbo petrol paired with the 6-speed torque converter automatic is a proven and reliable combination, and the car’s strong mid-range performance makes overtaking effortless, which you have already experienced on your test drive.

Fuel efficiency is not the best and in our real world tests the Kylaq returned 8.7 kpl in the city and 13.6 on the highway when driven normally. Of course a diesel car is more efficient but for your running, the savings will not be very substantial over the life cycle of the car, especially when you factor in the lower purchase price of a petrol over a diesel. The Kylaq also offers a more engaging driving experience than the Venue, with better handling and a more planted feel on the highway. Skoda Kylaq price starts at Rs 7.59 lakh and goes up to Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

@tennewt Go for Kylaq because you already have a positive review from test drive. Fuel efficiency also depends a lot on driving style and conditions, a kylaq owner who drives with light foot and slow acceleration has reported 19kmpl on highways repeatedly and in city every car nowadays gives single digit FE and with E20 it's going down only. Don't worry about FE because the driving pleasure of kylaq might overcome the that feeling.

Hi Team, I booked the Brezza VXi Turbo in Lustrous Beige on 27 July in Bangalore. I am still waiting for the car to be dispatched from the factory and have not received a clear update on the expected delivery date. It offers a more powerful turbo petrol engine, a wider cabin and a stronger feature set at a similar price point. The only drawback is the smaller boot, but as a 5-seater it is one of the best in the segment. The Skoda Kylaq is another strong option if you prioritise driving dynamics and value, though it is not as spacious as the Brezza or the 3XO.If you are happy with the Brezza and the dealership can give you a firm delivery date, it is worth waiting. But if the uncertainty continues, the XUV 3XO is a good alternative.

I'm 6'2" tall and am on the heavier side. I have recently been affected with Disc bulge due to which doctors have adviced me to reduce driving. I currently own an Alto, and want to move to a car that will let me drive in a better posture with no further trouble due to the same in the long run. Please suggest suitable options. I prefer manual petrol car but I am open to automatic car. I do not prefer 6 or 7-seater cars. My budget is between 8-12 lakh (on road). Please guide.

Given your height, build and recent disc bulge, the priority should be a car with an easy entry and exit, a high seating position and upright driving posture. The Tata Punch is a good option here. The doors open very wide and the seat height makes entry and exit easy. The seats are also comfy and supportive enough. The suspension is also very good delivering a comfy ride and can manage bad roads, this would be important given your back troubles. Lastly, the Punch meets your budget and you would be able to opt for an automatic too. Given your back trouble it would make sense to have your left leg do less work as repeated use of the clutch could put a little strain on your hips and lower back area.

The Tata Harrier is a very good choice for your usage. With predominantly highway driving, the Harrier’s strengths really come to the fore. The diesel engine is strong and relaxed at cruising speeds, and the car feels planted and stable on long runs. The ride quality is also excellent, soaking up bad patches and undulations with ease, which makes it a comfortable long-distance companion.The only thing to be aware of is that Tata’s ownership experience can be a bit inconsistent depending on the service centre, so check the dealers out in your area as Tata Motors are making many improvements with their service. If you are open to alternatives, the Mahindra XUV 7XO is worth considering as well. It offers a more powerful diesel engine and is very well equipped.

I currently drive a Grand i10 Manual petrol and am now planning to buy a new compact SUV that is comfortable, fuel efficient and has low maintenance. My usage is 35km of daily office commute in Delhi-NCR traffic. Please advice which option is best fit amongst Hyundai Venue HX 6T, SONET HTK+O and XUV 3XO.

Go for the Hyundai Venue. With your daily 35km commute in Delhi NCR traffic, comfort and low maintenance are key, and the Venue delivers on both. The 1.2 NA petrol is smooth, refined and easy to drive in stop-start conditions, while Hyundai’s service network and ownership experience are among the best in the segment. The HX6T variant also gives you a good balance of features without pushing the budget too far.The Sonet HTK+O is mechanically very similar, but the Venue is a newer model and offers a more spacious cabin.
