Change city: Delhi
The second-generation Baleno was introduced in Feb 2022, and while it may look similar to the outgoing hatchback, it is an all-new model from the grounds up. Maruti's premium hatchback remains a petrol-only model, though it now gets a new-generation 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (without the mild hybrid system) and an AMT gearbox replacing the old CVT.

The Baleno scores well for space and practicality, and quality took a huge leap with the second generation. Higher variants have unique features like 360-degree cameras and a heads-up display (HUD), as well as six airbags. The new 90hp petrol engine is refined and satisfactory around town, but has a weak mid range, requiring to be revved out for overtaking. The light clutch and smooth manual make driving easy, though the AMT feels a step backwards from the old CVT. The ride and handling feels weighty and confidence inspiring, and all round it feels like a far more mature premium hatch. Wish it had more engine options though.
