Maruti Suzuki Baleno six airbags

Shortly after Toyota updated the Glanza with six airbags as standard, Maruti has now done the same for the Baleno. Earlier, only the higher-spec Zeta and Alpha trims of the Baleno had six airbags. But with six airbags becoming standard, prices for the Baleno will see an increment of 0.5 percent, Maruti has said.

  1. Lower-spec Sigma and Delta trims benefit from the new update
  2. Other features and powertrain options remain unchanged

Maruti Suzuki Baleno safety update

The Baleno is the latest Maruti among a raft of other models, including the Alto, Wagon R, Celerio and even the Eeco, to be offered with six airbags as standard. However, the carmaker hasn’t yet revealed the detailed price list post this update. It remains to be seen if it’s the base Sigma and Delta trims that see the 0.5 percent hike, or if it is applied across the range. Prior to this update, the Baleno’s ex-showroom price was Rs 6.70 lakh-Rs 9.92 lakh.

Other standard safety features on the Baleno include ESP with hill hold, 3-point seatbelts with a reminder for all passengers, brake assist and ISOFIX anchorages; top-spec Alpha trim also gets a 360-degree camera. The Baleno continues to be powered by a 90hp 1.2-litre petrol engine that comes with a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox; a factory-fitted CNG kit is also available on the Delta and Zeta trims.

All Marutis to be updated with 6 airbags by year end

Earlier in April this year, Maruti Suzuki chairman R C Bhargava had said, “We will be having 6 airbags in all our cars by the end of this year.” As it stands, only the Ertiga, Fronx, Ignis, S-Presso and XL6 are yet to receive this update.

The Ertiga is most likely the next in line to receive six airbags as standard, with the carmaker even hinting at a price hike of 1.4 percent with the update.
