Given your requirement for a spacious cabin, the MG Windsor EV is a great choice for you. The interior room is a highlight, and the Windsor EV actually feels roomier than some larger cars.
The Windsor EV is also pleasant to drive, though we'd suggest you opt for the Pro version that uses a larger 52.9kWh battery pack - the added range will come in handy on your outstation trips. The Windsor EV Exclusive Pro is just out of your budget, but it is the one we'd recommend you consider.
With an on-road budget of ₹22 lakh, I want to buy an SUV in the next 4-5 months that is fun and punchy with reasonable fuel efficiency. The most fun-to-drive SUVs in your budget are the 1.5-litre Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq twins, which are very engaging thanks to their brilliant dynamics and a powerful, punchy engine.
Both are due for a facelift, and the upgraded Kushaq is just around the corner and scheduled to launch on January 20th 2026. The Volkswagen Taigun facelift will come a month later. Both these SUVs will see some significant enhancements to the air conditioning and interiors.
Top-end variants will come with rear massage seats, a first in the segment. However, one weakness is the rear seat space, which is relatively narrow and best for four.
Therefore, if this is a deal-breaker for you, you could consider the Tata Sierra. It is fantastically spacious, has superb ride and handling and an all-new 1.5 petrol engine, which is smooth, punchy and fairly efficient too.
The Sierra is not as engaging to drive as the Kushaq and Taigun, as it is heavier and has a relaxed power delivery. We would rule out the MG Hector in your case as it is too big, it's not a very engaging car to drive, and as you said, it guzzles fuel.

Considering your running and if you are open to an EV, the MG Comet is a good option for your wife. It is extremely easy to drive, park, and live with thanks to its compact size. Even the top variant falls within your budget and comes well-loaded with features.
If it feels too small and you want something more substantial, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx AMT in the Delta Plus variant is a good fit. The 1.2 litre petrol engine is smooth and efficient, and the AMT works well for everyday use.
If you prefer a more premium automatic, the Hyundai i20 with the smooth CVT transmission is also a strong option and fits comfortably within your budget.

Another option that you can consider for its expansive boot space is the MG Hector.
I am very confused between the Tata Harrier and the MG Hector diesel. I like the Harrier’s looks but have concerns about service and maintenance costs. On the other hand, the MG offers a very good interior and lower maintenance costs. I currently drive a petrol Honda City. My maximum budget is ₹21 lakh. I am comparing the Harrier Pure X with the Hector Smart Pro. My monthly running is around 1,200km.
