  1. Maruti sold around 6.2 lakh CNG vehicles in FY2025 with 28 percent growth

Maruti Suzuki CNG sales in FY2025

Maruti commands over 70 percent market share

Maruti Suzuki has the largest CNG portfolio in the country comprising as many as 13 vehicles. Apart from just three cars – Jimny, Ignis and Invicto – all of Maruti’s cars and SUVs are offered with a factory fitted CNG kit. Understandably, with such a wide model spread and strong demand for most of them, the company has a vice-like grip on the CNG market.

As of end of 2024, Maruti Suzuki had a whopping 71.60 percent market share in the CNG segment, followed by Tata Motors at 16.13 percent and Hyundai at 10.04 percent. Toyota, thanks to its partnership with Maruti, also has some presence in the CNG space with 2.21 percent market share.

Maruti’s strong hybrids accounted for 2.4 percent sales

At its FY2025 sales results announced, the company also revealed that it has sold 20,672 units of strong hybrid vehicles, which made up 2.4 percent of its total sales in FY2025. That’s also a 27 percent year-on-year growth over FY2024, and it has come from just two models – the Grand Vitara and Invicto – which are offered with the 1.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrain.

Tata Motors recorded 35 percent YoY CNG sales growth

Although Tata Motors hasn’t provided an exact figure for CNG sales, the company has announced that it recorded 35 percent year-on-year growth in sales of CNG vehicles. In terms of overall volume, Tata Motors is ranked second in CNG sales. The company’s innovative dual-cylinder CNG tech solved a primary problem with CNG vehicles – boot space – and it has now been adopted by rival carmakers as well. Tata Motors is also the only carmaker to offer the option of an automatic CNG powertrain with the Tiago and Tigor.
