I am planning to buy a new petrol car for a family of 3 adults and 2 children. I am confused between the Hyundai Venue HX10, Tata Nexon Fearless Plus with ADAS, and Mahindra 3XO AX7L. I want fully loaded features. I live in a village, but the road conditions are good. Second-row comfort is my primary concern. Which is the best choice? Any other suggestions in the same segment?

The Mahindra XUV 3XO is a good option as it is spacious, offers a comfortable second row, and the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine is punchy and enjoyable to drive. The 3XO also gets a long list of features, including a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Tata Nexon is another good option. It is not as spacious as the 3XO, but it is still comfortable and has a good amount of features. The Venue is the newest car in the segment, and it does feel like one, too. It also gets a larger touchscreen and a bit more modern interior, but overall, the 3XO will fit your needs the best. The rear seat is spacious and more comfortable, the engine is more responsive, and it is loaded with features, especially in the top variants.

I currently own a 2010 Hyundai i20 petrol and want to upgrade to a new automatic car with a budget of ₹15 lakh (on-road). My usage is 50% city + 50% highway, with monthly running of ~1200–1500 km. It’s mainly for a family of 3, but sometimes 5-6 people during outings. I’m confused between petrol, diesel, and CNG. With diesel, I am worried about maintenance and city usage. CNG has good running costs, but there are long queues on weekends. My priorities are fuel efficiency, low maintenance, good safety, and long-term reliability. Based on this usage, which fuel type and automatic transmission would you recommend, and what safety aspects (airbags, build quality, ratings) should I not compromise on?

Since your running is high, it would be a choice between CNG and diesel. The Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV 3XO are both available with a diesel engine, but with a less-impressive AMT gearbox.
The Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet also get a diesel engine mated to a proper torque converter automatic, but in the Rs 15 lakh budget, you can only get the lower-spec version of the two that misses out on features. Between these four, we would recommend the Venue since it is a newer SUV with a comfy ride and a smoother automatic gearbox.
However, if you want a car for six passengers, you need to look at manual options. The Kia Carens Clavis is available with a diesel manual option that is spacious for six/seven, and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga with a CNG and a 5-speed manual gearbox.

My monthly running is around 1,500 km, mainly on highways, and I want a car with an automatic transmission. Should I choose petrol or diesel? Also, please suggest a suitable vehicle within a ₹15 lakh budget.

Since most of your running is on the highways, a diesel SUV would be a good choice. Also, a manual gearbox will be good enough for the highways and will offer a better driving experience and efficiency.

The Tata Nexon with the 1.5-litre diesel engine offers strong performance and good efficiency. It is also quite practical with a large boot and a fantastic ride quality that is segment-best. In your budget, you can get the top-spec Fearless+ trim that gets a well-packed cabin with a lot of features.

I’m 24 years old and planning to buy our first car, which will be shared between my parents and me (they’re in their 50s and still learning to drive). My budget is around ₹10-12 lakh, and I can stretch it by another ₹1 lakh if needed. I’m considering an automatic with a smooth transmission. I’m confused between the Tata Nexon and the Mahindra XUV 3XO. I don’t know much about cars, so I’d really appreciate your advice on which one would be a better fit for power, comfort, ease of driving, and overall value within my budget. Please also suggest specific automatic variants that make sense for my needs.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO is the better option for several reasons. The pairing of the 1.2 TGDI engine and the 6-speed Aisin gearbox in the 3XO is superior to the 1.2 turbo-petrol and dual-clutch automatic transmission in the Nexon, which is slow to shift and not very responsive.
The 3XO also has the better-appointed cabin and is easy to drive. The Nexon has its strengths of good ride and handling, and a bigger boot, but overall it's not as nice to drive as the 3XO.

I am planning to buy an SUV within a budget of approximately 16 lakh. As I am a retired Naval Officer hence prefer to buy through CSD. I prefer to own a new Maruti Sajuki Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid variant. But am perplexed whether to go for the Tata Nexon (Top Variant) or the Strong Hybrid Grand Vitara. My usage of the vehicle is hardly for 5/6 days a month. Kindly advise a suitable vehicle for me, please. Regards.

With a budget of around Rs16 lakh, CSD eligibility, and very low usage of just 5-6 days a month, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid is the more sensible choice despite the higher upfront cost.
The Tata Nexon top variant makes sense if you want a more compact SUV with a strong feature list and a clear focus on safety. However, given your usage pattern, its advantages do not outweigh the Grand Vitara’s hybrid benefits.
The strong hybrid’s biggest strengths are exceptional fuel efficiency and ease of ownership. Even with limited use, it will be light on fuel, extremely smooth in city driving, and backed by Maruti’s vast service network, making it ideal for low-usage, stress-free ownership. The CSD pricing further improves its value proposition.
As an alternative to the Grand Vitara, you could also consider the Maruti Suzuki Victoris. It is mechanically similar but offers additional safety and convenience features, a 5-star BNCAP rating, better interior fit and finish, and is priced in the same ballpark.

I am looking for my second car with a stylish design, best ground clearance, 5-star safety, and top features like Level 2 ADAS, tyre monitoring system, sunroof, large boot, and cruise control. My preferences are Curvv, new Duster, XL6, Harrier, or Toyota cars. Please advise which would be the best suitable option and which variant as well. My usage is about 60% city and 40% highway, with a budget of ₹15 lakh.

None of the cars you have shortlisted have Level 2 ADAS, within your budget of Rs 15 lakhs. Since this is a must-have, you may consider the Tata Nexon, which satisfies all your requirements. It includes a 5-star crash safety rating, ADAS, tyre pressure loss indicator, sunroof, cruise control, and its boot space is quite respectable too. Also, the Nexon feels tough, and its ride comfort is very good for your city and highway drives.

If you are comfortable with sedans, then the Honda City and Hyundai Verna meet all your requirements, and have a much larger boot than all the compact SUVs on sale. Between the two, the Verna feels more modern, and is a bit more refined, too.

Please suggest a car with CNG and manual transmission that is suitable for occasional long highway driving, with an on-road budget of ₹12 lakh.

The Tata Nexon CNG would be a good option for you. Instead of one large CNG tank eating into boot space, it uses Tata’s innovative twin cylinder setup, which places two CNG cylinders under the boot floor. This means you don’t lose out on a proper usable boot. Moreover, there's also a spare wheel mounted under the car.

Boot space over the standard Nexon due to a higher floor, but it's still very useable and this and the spare can be handy on your long highway drives. The Nexon also has a good highway ride, and you will get a very well-equipped version in your budget.

I want a 5-seater diesel car with good fuel efficiency, with a budget of up to Rs 15 lakh. Please suggest.

If fuel efficiency is a priority, the Tata Nexon diesel is a good option. In our real-world fuel efficiency test, Nexon gave a combined (city + highway) mileage of 18kpl, which is a very good figure. Nexon also comes with a lot of attractive features, but you will find the engine to be noisy.
The good thing about Nexon diesel is that the issue of modern diesels, where they need urea to be filled or increased service cost because of DPF issues, is not true for Nexon, as it uses a passive selective catalytic reduction system, which cleans the filter automatically, making it easier to own.

Hi Autocar Team, I am Neel. I am buying my first car and need suggestions for a non-AMT automatic car with an on-road budget of Rs 10 lakh and Rs 14 lakh. My priorities are safety, mileage and features like a 360-degree camera and cruise control. Kindly provide your suggestions.

For the 10 lakh band, you can look at either the Tata Altroz or Honda Amaze. Altroz gets a torque converter automatic and will be around 10 lakhs on road. It also gets the features you are looking for. Honda Amaze gets a CVT and will fit in your budget, but misses out on 360 degree camera. Both of these cars have secured a 5-star safety rating.
For the 14 lakh, you can choose the Tata Nexon, the Petrol Creative DCT variant, which also gets most of the features you want.

My on-road budget is around Rs 15 lakh. I am unable to decide between the Urban Cruiser Taisor, XUV 3XO, Nexon and Fronx. I am looking for good mileage, safety, AMT and a sunroof. Please guide me.

If you are looking for a sunroof, you will have to remove the Maruti Fronx and Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor from your consideration set, as neither of them gets one. Between the Tata Nexon and the Mahindra XUV 3XO, the Nexon is a better bet because of mileage and overall cabin space.
So go ahead with the Tata Nexon. In your budget, you can even look at Nexon Petrol DCT, which is a more responsive transmission than AMT.
