I am planning to buy an SUV within a budget of approximately 16 lakh. As I am a retired Naval Officer hence prefer to buy through CSD. I prefer to own a new Maruti Sajuki Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid variant. But am perplexed whether to go for the Tata Nexon (Top Variant) or the Strong Hybrid Grand Vitara. My usage of the vehicle is hardly for 5/6 days a month. Kindly advise a suitable vehicle for me, please. Regards.

With a budget of around Rs16 lakh, CSD eligibility, and very low usage of just 5-6 days a month, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid is the more sensible choice despite the higher upfront cost.
The Tata Nexon top variant makes sense if you want a more compact SUV with a strong feature list and a clear focus on safety. However, given your usage pattern, its advantages do not outweigh the Grand Vitara’s hybrid benefits.
The strong hybrid’s biggest strengths are exceptional fuel efficiency and ease of ownership. Even with limited use, it will be light on fuel, extremely smooth in city driving, and backed by Maruti’s vast service network, making it ideal for low-usage, stress-free ownership. The CSD pricing further improves its value proposition.
As an alternative to the Grand Vitara, you could also consider the Maruti Suzuki Victoris. It is mechanically similar but offers additional safety and convenience features, a 5-star BNCAP rating, better interior fit and finish, and is priced in the same ballpark.

Hi, currently I have been driving a Honda Amaze diesel top model since 2019. Now I want to upgrade my car to an SUV. My daily running is 45 km and monthly up to 1300 km, with 20% in the city and 80% on the highway. Please suggest a fuel-efficient and safety-loaded SUV under an ₹11-12 lakh budget. Please suggest.

Since you prefer diesels, the Tata Nexon would be a good choice for your needs. It gets a frugal 1.5-litre diesel engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox. It is rated 5 stars for crash test safety in BNCAP and has a confident ride on the highway. The braking performance is good too, and in your budget, you can get the Pure + S variant that gets you a decent kit like LED headlamps, sunroof, reversing camera, rain-sensing wipers, etc.The Nexon returns an impressive 16.5kpl in the city and an even more impressive 19.4kpl on the highway. It is a well-rounded SUV for your needs and hence our top recommendation.

I am considering buying a used 2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Alpha Plus Strong Hybrid that has done around 66,000 km and is available for ₹16 lakh. The car will also require a tyre replacement. My expected running will be around 2,000 km per month, with 80% highway driving and 20% bumper-to-bumper city traffic.

The top-spec Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Alpha Plus is well-equipped, and the extremely efficient hybrid powertrain will be ideal for your usage. The asking price of Rs 16 lakh for a 2022 model with 66,000km on the odometer is on the higher side. We would recommend you negotiate the price down to around Rs 14 lakh. Also, you need to factor in an additional Rs 30,000-40,000 (depending on the brand you opt for) for a new set of tyres. Since your usage is primarily on the highway, we'd advise you to replace the tyres immediately after taking delivery.
