I am planning to buy an SUV within a budget of approximately 16 lakh. As I am a retired Naval Officer hence prefer to buy through CSD. I prefer to own a new Maruti Sajuki Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid variant. But am perplexed whether to go for the Tata Nexon (Top Variant) or the Strong Hybrid Grand Vitara. My usage of the vehicle is hardly for 5/6 days a month. Kindly advise a suitable vehicle for me, please. Regards.

With a budget of around Rs16 lakh, CSD eligibility, and very low usage of just 5-6 days a month, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid is the more sensible choice despite the higher upfront cost.
The Tata Nexon top variant makes sense if you want a more compact SUV with a strong feature list and a clear focus on safety. However, given your usage pattern, its advantages do not outweigh the Grand Vitara’s hybrid benefits.
The strong hybrid’s biggest strengths are exceptional fuel efficiency and ease of ownership. Even with limited use, it will be light on fuel, extremely smooth in city driving, and backed by Maruti’s vast service network, making it ideal for low-usage, stress-free ownership. The CSD pricing further improves its value proposition.
As an alternative to the Grand Vitara, you could also consider the Maruti Suzuki Victoris. It is mechanically similar but offers additional safety and convenience features, a 5-star BNCAP rating, better interior fit and finish, and is priced in the same ballpark.

I am looking for my second car with a stylish design, best ground clearance, 5-star safety, and top features like Level 2 ADAS, tyre monitoring system, sunroof, large boot, and cruise control. My preferences are Curvv, new Duster, XL6, Harrier, or Toyota cars. Please advise which would be the best suitable option and which variant as well. My usage is about 60% city and 40% highway, with a budget of ₹15 lakh.

None of the cars you have shortlisted have Level 2 ADAS, within your budget of Rs 15 lakhs. Since this is a must-have, you may consider the Tata Nexon, which satisfies all your requirements. It includes a 5-star crash safety rating, ADAS, tyre pressure loss indicator, sunroof, cruise control, and its boot space is quite respectable too. Also, the Nexon feels tough, and its ride comfort is very good for your city and highway drives.

If you are comfortable with sedans, then the Honda City and Hyundai Verna meet all your requirements, and have a much larger boot than all the compact SUVs on sale. Between the two, the Verna feels more modern, and is a bit more refined, too.

Please suggest a car with CNG and manual transmission that is suitable for occasional long highway driving, with an on-road budget of ₹12 lakh.

The Tata Nexon CNG would be a good option for you. Instead of one large CNG tank eating into boot space, it uses Tata’s innovative twin cylinder setup, which places two CNG cylinders under the boot floor. This means you don’t lose out on a proper usable boot. Moreover, there's also a spare wheel mounted under the car.

Boot space over the standard Nexon due to a higher floor, but it's still very useable and this and the spare can be handy on your long highway drives. The Nexon also has a good highway ride, and you will get a very well-equipped version in your budget.

I want a 5-seater diesel car with good fuel efficiency, with a budget of up to Rs 15 lakh. Please suggest.

If fuel efficiency is a priority, the Tata Nexon diesel is a good option. In our real-world fuel efficiency test, Nexon gave a combined (city + highway) mileage of 18kpl, which is a very good figure. Nexon also comes with a lot of attractive features, but you will find the engine to be noisy.
The good thing about Nexon diesel is that the issue of modern diesels, where they need urea to be filled or increased service cost because of DPF issues, is not true for Nexon, as it uses a passive selective catalytic reduction system, which cleans the filter automatically, making it easier to own.

Hi Autocar Team, I am Neel. I am buying my first car and need suggestions for a non-AMT automatic car with an on-road budget of Rs 10 lakh and Rs 14 lakh. My priorities are safety, mileage and features like a 360-degree camera and cruise control. Kindly provide your suggestions.

For the 10 lakh band, you can look at either the Tata Altroz or Honda Amaze. Altroz gets a torque converter automatic and will be around 10 lakhs on road. It also gets the features you are looking for. Honda Amaze gets a CVT and will fit in your budget, but misses out on 360 degree camera. Both of these cars have secured a 5-star safety rating.
For the 14 lakh, you can choose the Tata Nexon, the Petrol Creative DCT variant, which also gets most of the features you want.

My on-road budget is around Rs 15 lakh. I am unable to decide between the Urban Cruiser Taisor, XUV 3XO, Nexon and Fronx. I am looking for good mileage, safety, AMT and a sunroof. Please guide me.

If you are looking for a sunroof, you will have to remove the Maruti Fronx and Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor from your consideration set, as neither of them gets one. Between the Tata Nexon and the Mahindra XUV 3XO, the Nexon is a better bet because of mileage and overall cabin space.
So go ahead with the Tata Nexon. In your budget, you can even look at Nexon Petrol DCT, which is a more responsive transmission than AMT.

My monthly commute is around 2500 kms. I need a fuel-efficient car that offers good space and safety. My budget is around 12-13 lakh. Which car would you recommend?

With a 2,500km monthly usage, opting for a diesel car will be a sensible choice. From the Tata stable, you could consider the Altroz or the Nexon. Both of these Tata cars are spacious, well-built, and have excellent safety ratings. Their engine is fuel-efficient, but these aren't very refined.
The Kia Syros is also a great option you can consider. It is equipped with a smoother, more refined diesel engine, and it has been awarded a 5-star crash safety score by BNCAP. The new Venue shares its platform and powertrain with the Syros, and with a more conventional design, new-age features, and better cabin space than before, it is one option that you must seriously consider.

I will be mostly using the car for city driving and plan to buy it through a car leasing program. I am confused between the XUV 3XO, XUV 7XO, and Tata Nexon. Please advise.

For city driving, the Mahindra XUV 7XO is quite big, but if you are considering one, we can assume you would have a budget for top-end variants of the Mahindra XUV 3XO and Nexon, which would be more suitable.
Between the two, we would pick the 3XO with the 1.2 TGDi engine and a six-speed automatic, which is a superior powertrain to the Nexon’s 1.2 turbo-petrol with a twin-clutch automatic. Also, the 3XO has more features and feels better built. The Tata Nexon, on the other hand, has a bigger boot.

I am looking to buy a new car with a maximum budget of ₹10-15 lakh. I want a car with a 4- or 5-star safety rating that delivers a decent fuel average. My usage will be mostly on weekends, with a maximum of 500-700 km per month. I want an automatic car, but not an AMT. My shortlist includes: Skoda Kyalq Signature Plus/Prestige TC 3XO AX5L Tata Nexon Creative Plus PS Dark 7 DCA Please suggest the best option.

Unfortunately, none of the turbo petrol options you listed will be very efficient. Given your limited running, this should not be a concern.

We would recommend choosing between the Skoda Kylaq and the Mahindra XUV 3XO. Both are engaging to drive, offer strong turbo petrol engines, smooth 6-speed torque converter automatics, and a comfortable ride.

The key difference is space. The Mahindra is the better five-seater thanks to its wider body, while the Skoda offers a larger and more practical boot.

The Tata Nexon remains one of the highest-selling cars in the segment, but it is also among the oldest and is due for an update.

I am looking for a petrol SUV with an automatic gearbox, sunroof, hill assist, good rear-seat comfort, and preferably paddle shifters. My on-road budget is ₹15 lakh in Thane. Please suggest.

You should go for the Tata Nexon, the Creative Plus DCT variant. It has all the features that you want, a panoramic sunroof, hill start assist and comes with paddle shifters, too. Nexon's ride is solid; it can handle bad roads very well and keeps the occupants comfortable.
The 1.2-litre turbocharged engine of this Tata car is peppy enough for everyday driving. It's not the most refined, but nothing you can't live with.
