Questions you may find useful

I am upgrading from a Brezza diesel and am looking for a car under Rs 15 lakh for a daily run of 30km+ and occasional mountain trips. I am currently confused between the Skoda Kylaq and Kia Sonet diesel, and am more inclined towards the Kylaq. However, I have read reviews mentioning mileage of under 5kpl in the mountains and concerns about low-end torque. I am also moving from a diesel car and am worried about E20 fuel. My priorities are that the car should not feel underpowered, while also offering good features, comfort and fuel efficiency of 10kpl or more. Which one should I choose?

Go for the Skoda Kylaq 1.0 TSI automatic. Your usage pattern of 30km+ daily running with occasional mountain trips makes the Skoda Kylaq a better fit than the Kia Sonet diesel. The 1.0 TSI engine is a proven unit with a strong mid-range, and the 6-speed torque converter automatic is well-suited to both city driving and mountain roads. The concerns about high fuel consumption in the mountains are exaggerated. Any car will see a drop in fuel efficiency on steep climbs, but the Skoda will still deliver reasonable figures, and the overall ownership experience is strong. Coming from a diesel car, you will notice a difference in low-end torque, but the turbo petrol compensates well once on boost, and the gearbox is responsive enough for mountain driving. On E20, there is no need to worry, as modern engines are engineered to handle E20.

I am planning to purchase my first car. I don't have any specific requirements or daily running. I will mainly use it for city rides with family when needed and occasional weekend highway trips. My budget is up to Rs. 12 lakh. Which one should I choose among the Tata Punch, Skoda Kylaq, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and Tata Nexon? I am also open to other options.

Between your picks, the Mahindra XUV 3XO is the best all-rounder. This Mahindra car is one of the most spacious compact SUVs in the segment, with a wide cabin that makes it a genuinely comfortable five-seater for family outings. It also offers a strong feature set, good safety credentials and a well-balanced driving experience that works equally well in the city and on weekend highway runs. The only real drawback is the boot, which is one of the smaller ones in the segment, but for your usage pattern that is unlikely to be a deal-breaker.The Tata Punch is a good value proposition, but it sits in a segment below the 3XO and does not offer the same level of space, performance or overall polish. The Skoda Kylaq is a strong driver's car, but it is not as spacious as the 3XO. The Maruti Brezza is a solid, reliable choice with low running costs, but it does not feel as modern or as feature-rich as the 3XO. The Tata Nexon is a good all-rounder, but the 3XO offers a more spacious cabin, and its torque convertor auto is smoother in traffic.Overall, the 3XO strikes the best balance between space, comfort, features and value, making it the most sensible choice for a first-time buyer with your usage pattern.

I am using a Datsun redi-GO 2016 model and am planning to upgrade to a 5-seater automatic car. I mostly use it in city traffic, with an average daily travel of 60 km. I have a bit of a back problem, so I need a car that is suited for long-term ownership. I am open to suggestions for current or upcoming cars, except Tata and Mahindra. I initially shortlisted the Creta S (O) and later tried the Kylaq, but the Creta is expensive for my budget. My budget is Rs. 15-18 lakh.

Given your requirements, the Skoda Kylaq automatic is the most sensible recommendation. Your daily running of 60 km in city traffic makes a petrol automatic the right choice, and the Kylaq's 6-speed torque converter automatic is well suited to stop-start conditions. The Kylaq also offers a comfortable ride and supportive seats, which is important given your back problem. It is also a more practical upgrade from your Redigo, offering a higher seating position and better overall comfort without stretching your budget. The Hyundai Creta S Optional is a good car, but it sits at the upper end of your budget and though it does offer additional value like a more spacious cabin. The Kylaq, on the other hand, offers a more engaging driving experience while still delivering a comfortable ride, making it better value for money for your requirements. If you are open to upcoming cars, the Honda Elevate facelift is worth considering as well, as it is expected to offer a comfortable ride and Honda's reputation for reliability. However, the Kylaq remains the stronger recommendation given your budget and requirements.

Which is the better car between the Kylaq and the new Brezza 1.0-litre turbo? Most of my driving will be in the city, but on road trips, the car will cover around 600-700 km in a day. My priorities are decent suspension, good handling and drivability, along with confidence-inspiring highway manners. At speeds above 100 kph, which of the two offers better stability and performance?

Go for the Skoda Kylaq 1.0 TSI. It is the better fit for your usage. The 1.0 TSI turbo petrol engine is punchy and offers strong mid-range performance, which makes highway overtakes easy and the car feels stable and confident at triple-digit speeds. The suspension is well-tuned, offering a good balance between ride comfort and handling, and the steering is precise, which inspires confidence on long highway runs. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza 1.0 turbo is a good car, but the Kylaq feels more engaging to drive and is better suited to your requirements. The only thing to keep in mind is that the Kylaq's boot is on the smaller side, so if you regularly carry a lot of luggage, that is something to consider. Overall, for your mix of city driving and long highway trips, the Kylaq is the better fit.

Hello everyone, I would like to know which would be the better car for highway driving. My average monthly running is around 3,000 km. I am considering the Kia Sonet 1.0-litre Turbo Petrol DCT and the Skoda Kylaq Automatic. My main priority is highway comfort, especially for driving 5-6 hours in a single day. Which one would you recommend for my requirements?

With 3,000km a month and regular 5-6 hour highway runs, the Skoda Kylaq automatic is the better fit for you. The Kylaq’s 1.0 TSI engine paired with the 6-speed torque converter automatic is a proven and reliable combination that delivers strong mid-range performance, making overtaking effortless on highways. The Kylaq also has a more planted and stable feel at speed, and the ride quality is well judged for Indian highways. The Sonet DCT is a good car, but the 1.0 turbo petrol paired with a dual-clutch transmission is not the ideal setup for high-mileage highway use. The DCT can feel a bit jerky at low speeds and is not as stress-free as a torque converter over long distances. The Kylaq’s automatic is smoother, more robust and better suited to sustained highway driving. The Kylaq also offers good value for money and is one of the best driver’s cars in the segment. It may not have the same feature count as the Sonet, but it delivers where it matters most for your usage. Go for the Kylaq automatic, and you will have a more comfortable and enjoyable ownership experience over the long term.
