Hi, I’m planning to buy my first car, which I won’t be driving regularly. My budget is under ₹14 lakh on-road. I’m looking for a fun-to-drive car and don’t need it to be family-focused. I’m open to both manual and automatic transmissions, whichever is more engaging to drive and fun.

The Skoda Kylaq will be the perfect choice for your requirements. It has a punchy 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and is available in both a manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
The Kylaq has compact dimensions and has a well-balanced chassis that makes the car great fun to drive. The handling is particularly impressive, and it has a good build too. The Prestige variant in manual guise will fit in your budget, while the Signature+ AT variant works if you prefer the automatic.

I wanted to buy a new automatic car for my sister, who is new to driving. We are confused among Nissan Magnite CVT, Skoda Kylaq AT, Tata Punch AMT, Fronx AMT, and Honda Maze CVT. Which among these is best for both city and highway drives based on gearbox and reliability? The budget is 10 to 13 lakhs. Kindly suggest.

The Nissan Magnite's turbo-petrol and CVT is a great combination, and it makes for an effortless drive experience. In isolation, this is a good car; however, when viewed in light of other cars, the Magnite doesn't feel as refined or as premium as the other options listed.
Out of the options, the Skoda Kylaq AT is the best in terms of performance and quality. It feels well-built, is easy to drive, and is well-suited for both urban and highway usage.

I want to purchase a new automatic car for city driving with a budget of around ₹15 lakh. Please suggest suitable options.

Since you currently have a Maruti Suzuki Baleno, we would suggest you upgrade to something like the Honda Amaze or the Skoda Kylaq. Both cars come in under 4 meters in length and so are better suited to crowded city conditions.

The Amaze's CVT automatic gearbox is smoother than many AMTs that come at this price point. Especially when driven at low, constantly changing speeds in the city and being a sedan. It will feel like an upgrade and offer you more boot space, too, should that be a requirement for you.

If you don't like the idea of a sedan, you can opt for the Skoda Kylaq, which will offer you a higher seating point and better ground clearance. Also, the automatic gearbox on the Kylaq is a torque convertor, which is the smoothest autobox around.

I am a first-time car buyer and want to purchase a petrol automatic car with good features. I am confused between the Hyundai Venue, Skoda Kylaq, Tata Nexon and Toyota Hyryder. My budget is around ₹15 to 16 lakh. My usage is mostly within the city with limited highway driving, and my monthly running is around 2,000km. Please advise.

If you want a torque converter automatic transmission, the Skoda Kylaq is your best bet. It is powered by a lively 999cc 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, paired with a smooth 6-speed AT, with a suspension setup that makes driving the Kylaq fun.

However, if you are open to other automatic transmissions, the Tata Nexon with a dual-clutch automatic can be a good choice. It has a spacious cabin, packed with features, and it is a car very well suited for city driving.

Hi, I own a Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5 petrol manual. My monthly driving is around 2,000km. I purchased this car due to my high highway usage, but its fuel efficiency is low. Should I consider switching to a more fuel-efficient car that also offers decent safety? Please suggest.

Yes, while the Mahindra XUV 3XO's turbo-petrol engines are punchy and exciting, they are not known to be the most fuel-efficient in real-world usage. You could definitely consider more fuel-efficient cars in a similar price range, but since your usage is largely on the highway, you want some punch too.
Check out the Skoda Kylaq, whose 1.0 turbo petrol engine has enough grunt when you need it but can also be efficient when you're just cruising. It's also a safe car, having scored a 5-star Bharat NCAP crash test rating. Plus, it has excellent highway composure and comfort, which should help make light work of long journeys.

I am planning to buy my first car with a budget of up to ₹10 lakh, although I can stretch it slightly if required. My preferences are an automatic transmission, long-term reliability, less-gimmicky features, and a decent level of safety. I am currently confused between the Honda Amaze and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. Are there any other options I should consider?

Both the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the Honda Amaze are worth considering as they come with proper automatic transmissions rather than AMTs. The Amaze is the more cost effective option. Its 1.2 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine has adequate performance for city use, and the CVT transmission is smooth and refined.

The Brezza, on the other hand, feels better to drive thanks to its larger 1.5 litre petrol engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. However, the most affordable automatic Brezza is available only in the VXI variant, which costs close to Rs 13 lakh on road, putting it well above your stated budget.

A more affordable alternative is the Skoda Kylaq in the Signature variant, priced at around Rs 12 lakh on road. The Kylaq is engaging to drive, and its 1.0 litre turbo petrol engine paired with a 6-speed torque converter automatic offers smooth performance with enough power for both city and highway driving.

If you want to stay well within a Rs 10 lakh budget, the Hyundai i20 is also a strong option. It is powered by a 1.2 litre petrol engine and comes with a smooth CVT transmission, making it suitable for daily urban use.

I currently own a 2015 Hyundai Elite i20 in Kolkata, and it has done around 1.10 lakh km. I want to buy a new car with an automatic transmission, and my budget is around ₹14-15 lakh. I have shortlisted the Skoda Kyalq, Kia Sonet, and XUV 3XO. I plan to keep this car for the next 10 years, and most of my driving will be within the city (70% city and 30% highway). Please suggest which car I should opt for.

While all three compact SUVs are impressive in their own separate ways, your best bet here is the Skoda Kylaq. Its 1.0 TSI engine and 6-speed automatic combination is smooth, which should come in handy around town. It's also very spacious and comfortable, and even quite a lot of fun to drive. When you go out on the highway, it's reassuringly stable and rides comfortably, too.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO has many of these traits too, but its engine, while powerful, isn't as smooth, refined or efficient as the Skoda's, and it has a tiny boot. The Sonet is starting to show its age, and its rear seat is very cramped. Plus, around town, its DCT gearbox can be quite jerky, and ride quality is firm too.

I am planning to buy a new SUV that should be automatic petrol (not AMT). My monthly running is only about 200 km, and my budget is ₹12 lakh. Please suggest an automatic SUV that fits my requirements.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza AT VXI is a sensible choice, though it's a bit out of your budget. The Brezza isn't exciting to drive, but it delivers reasonable performance and fuel economy and also scores well for ride comfort. The cabin is also practical and roomy.

If you want something more exciting, you have the option of the Mahindra XUV 3XO Petrol AT MX3, the Skoda Kylaq AT Signature, and the Maruti Suzuki Fronx Turbo AT Zeta. The 3XO feels strong and offers the most room for five passengers, if that's a requirement.

The Skoda Kylaq is most enjoyable to drive thanks to its fun handling and punchy engine. Maruti's Fronx Turbo strikes a good balance between performance and fuel economy.

My budget is 15 lac. My yearly runing is 13000km.my first preference is comfort car with good mileage. Which is best car for me I like personally creta diesel or petrol, kaylaq signature variant. 90% bumper to bumper city drive,10 % highway runing. Please advise accordingly

Unfortunately, the Hyundai Creta will only be available in a base variant in your budget of Rs 15 lakh. The Skoda Kylaq Signature is an excellent option, offering superb ride comfort and a punchy engine.

While it can be fuel efficient, however, you have to drive very carefully to get the most mileage out of the 1.0 TSI engine. If fuel efficiency is a top priority, consider checking out the Hyundai Venue diesel. It's not quite as comfortable as the Kylaq but it will certainly deliver better mileage.

Hi Team, I own a 2016 Ford Figo and am planning to upgrade to a sub-4-metre SUV. My usage is mostly within the city with one highway trip per year. Could you please suggest a car with good handling and steering feedback similar to what I experienced with my Ford? Thanks in advance.

The Skoda Kylaq would make a great upgrade from your Ford Figo. It's got the same fun handling character as the Figo with slick steering and crisp turn-in.

Adding to the fun factor is the 1-litre turbo-petrol engine that feels strong and punchy. Since the bulk of your driving will be in the city, you could consider the smooth 6-speed automatic transmission.

Otherwise, the 6-speed manual gearbox is fun in its own right.
