I want to buy an automatic car, and 90% of my driving will be in the city. I am confused between the Maruti Brezza AT, Honda Amaze CVT, and the new Hyundai Venue DCT.
I am planning to buy an automatic car. My 90% running is on the highway. I am confused between the Hyundai Venue DCT and the Maruti Brezza AT.
I will be driving a car for the first time. My main usage will be in Bangalore city for office commute and occasional family outings, with plans for short weekend road trips. I am a calm driver and don’t need the fastest engine - I want an automatic petrol 5-seater SUV. My priorities are: Safety features Easy to drive and maintain Good mileage Modern looks (interior & exterior) Sunroof Spacious, especially boot space Value for money with good utility No frequent niggles after purchase My budget is around ₹12 lakh and can stretch a bit. I can wait 3-4 months to buy the car. I see the Tata Sierra as one contender, but please suggest what would be the best option.
You will have to stretch your budget significantly to purchase the Tata Sierra automatic. For around Rs 12 lakhs on-road, what you can shortlist instead are the Mahindra XUV 3XO MX3 Turbo-AT and Skoda Kylaq Signature AT, both of which are safe, spacious, comfortable, and also get a sunroof.
The Maruti Brezza is likely to get an update in the coming weeks. Since you are not in a hurry, you could wait and see what it has to offer wait for, before going ahead with the purchase.
We’re planning to buy a 5-seater family car that will largely be used by senior citizens. Ease of getting in and out is a major consideration, so we’re avoiding cars that sit too low or are excessively tall. It will be chauffeur-driven and won’t be used daily, which makes cabin comfort, suspension, and rear-seat convenience key priorities. It will mostly be used in the city; highway use will be very limited. Budget is approximately ₹15 lakh. What do you recommend?
I am confused between an automatic and a manual car. I have shortlisted the Amaze automatic and the Brezza manual. This is my first car. Which one should I buy?
I currently own a 3-year-old Wagon R petrol 1.2 ZXi. I am looking to upgrade to a compact SUV, with top priority given to space, safety and reliable service. My budget is around ₹10 to 12 lakh on-road. My average running is about 500km per month, with 70% city driving. Please suggest a car and the right variant.
Hello, firstly thanks to Autocar for guiding and helping common folk over the years! Kudos! I was planning to buy a car for City use (Mumbai), car to be primarily driven by parents, daily drive would be maximum 10km, need an automatic. Constraints - Parking space is tight, so planned to go with sub 4m cars, since it'll be for parents needed easier ingress and egress without pressure on knees. Narrowed to Brezza. Is it a good choice? If not what alternate cars can be considered? Furthermore, when is the facelift for Brezza due? There is no urgency as such to buy, what do you suggest should we go ahead now, or wait out for the facelift? Thanks!
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is a good choice for your requirements. It is a spacious, practical, and compact SUV that is easy to drive in the city. The 1.5-litre petrol engine lacks punch and delivers mediocre performance. But it's smooth and refined and, coupled with a fairly responsive automatic gearbox, does the job for city driving quite well.
More importantly, the Brezza is easy to get in and out of thanks to wide-opening doors and a comfortable step-in height.
The Brezza is also a very reliable car, and Maruti's service network is very strong, so you won't go wrong there. The facelifted Brezza is expected to be launched later this year, though we are not aware of an exact timeline.
The other alternative cars you could consider are the new Hyundai Venue, which is today the best overall compact SUV, or the Kia Syros, which is extremely spacious, especially in the back seat.
Which is the best automatic petrol SUV to buy today with a reasonably good average (15 km/l or more) under ₹15 lakhs?
There are not many petrol automatic cars, at any price point, that would do upwards of 15kpl these days. Turbocharged cars, especially, require extremely careful driving to achieve high fuel efficiency numbers, and the automatic gearbox reduces these chances, as the gear shifts are not in your control. If fuel efficiency is your ultimate concern, we would recommend a good naturally aspirated petrol engine, in a small, relatively light car. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx 1.2 petrol AMT is a good option, but its automated manual gearbox is not very smooth, and its engine is not very powerful. As a trade-off, you could also try the Maruti Suzuki Brezza 1.5 petrol AT, which has more power and a smoother torque converter automatic. But will deliver slightly lower - but still very good - fuel economy.
My Volkswagen Polo is 15 years old, but I cannot use it in Delhi NCR due to the 15-year age limit. The car is in good condition. I am 64 years old and drive only short distances, and I don’t want to invest much in a new car. After driving a VW, I feel other cars aren’t as good as the Polo. What would be the best option - buy a used Polo or invest in a new car? I am not willing to spend more than ₹6-7 lakh. Please advise. Also, is there any dealer who can offer ₹1-1.5 lakh for my car as part exchange for a good, senior-citizen-friendly vehicle? I have 25 years of driving experience and typically drive around 2.5 km at a time.
It is very sad that you're having to retire your well-maintained Polo due to the 15-year rule in Delhi NCR. Since you have a budget of Rs 7 lakhs, we'd advise you to get a 2020-21 Maruti Brezza or Toyota Urban Cruiser, both of which are smooth, well-built cars. Their seating position is high, visibility is good, and controls are light, which makes them very user-friendly.
Also, try finding the newest possible example, which will ensure that you drive the vehicle for 9 or 10 years before it reaches the 15-year age-limit.
For your outgoing car, you could consider getting in touch with used-car platforms such as Spinny; they'll do the paperwork, and should get you a good price.
I wish to buy an SUV for my four-member family. I am 58 years old, and we drive about 20 km daily with occasional long trips. I have been driving for 15 years, and my wife is a new driver. We want an automatic car. Our budget is ₹13-14 lakh. Can you suggest a fuel-efficient SUV with smooth gear shifting that would be suitable for us?
Given your requirements, you should consider the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. The Brezza has a comfortable and spacious cabin that can easily accommodate four adults. It also comes with a refined 103hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine paired to a smooth 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Maruti claims the Brezza automatic will do 19.8kpl. The Brezza is also relatively easy to drive, and being a Maruti product, it will also be stress-free to maintain. Maruti Brezza price for petrol-auto range starts from Rs 10.60 lakh to Rs 12.86 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
