Trending Questions on Citroen Basalt - Answered by Autocar Experts
I am looking forward for buying a new car and my budget is15 Laks. I really like the Citroen basalt x. The only problem is that I am not sure that will Citroen exit the Indian market? As the sales figures are very low. Please help
While Citroen's sales figures are low, rest assured, the carmaker has no plans or intention to leave our market. India is a major production base for Citroen, and the company is heavily invested here.
Citroen's poor sales performance is actually not reflective of the products, which are well-engineered and well-suited to Indian buyer requirements. The Basalt X stands out for its ride comfort and also has a very pleasant 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, which feels its best with the smooth auto gearbox. Citroen has also jazzed up the cabin with the Basalt X, and this has added greatly to its appeal.
If you like the Basalt X and have a Citroen dealer in close proximity, it's a great car to buy.
I have been driving a Honda Amaze petrol for the last 10 years and am now planning to switch. I have shortlisted the Basalt X/Aircross X automatic transmission. Will it be a good option considering their good ride quality, or are there any better options available between ₹13 to 14 lakh?
As a first-time buyer with a budget of ₹12.5 lakh, I am confused between the Skoda Kushaq Signature and a year-old Citroen Basalt, and would appreciate your advice on which is the better choice.
My budget is within Rs 14 lakh. My first preference is a smooth, quiet, and non-bumpy ride on our roads. I do not mind having fewer tech features. I travel on both city roads and connecting village roads. Which car would be a good choice for me?
Is there any possibility that Citroen will introduce diesel in Aircross X and Basalt, or launch the Berlingo van in India, which was spied testing many years ago?
I am planning to buy a personal car alongside my family car. I have shortlisted the Citroën Basalt X MT Turbo, which ticks all the boxes in terms of price point, comfort, and space compared to other sub-4m cars in this segment. However, I am concerned about the after-sales/service experience, long-term ownership reliability, and the future of the brand in India, especially considering the exits of Ford and GM. Please advise.
Yes, you are justified in worrying about the service network and quality. So far, there are very few dealers, and service quality is a mixed bag. Some owners report good quality service, and others complain about service quality and the delay in parts procurement.
In terms of long term stability, going the GM and Ford way isn't likely, not at least for the next few years, this year there won't be any mega launches, but the company is working on a revamped India plan. Moreover, the company is doing very well commercially thanks to a very robust spares and components export business.
I am looking for a fully automatic petrol car with a budget of up to ₹16 lakh. My usage will be around 80% city and 20% highway. The primary driver is 6’1”, and the car needs to be suitable for a family (2 adults and 2 kids). Could you please recommend the best options?
Given how tall the driver is, the obvious answer would be to skip past the compact segment and into the midsize sedan and SUV segment. However, at a budget of Rs 16 lakh, you would only get an entry-level version of most midsize cars.
There are, however, two exceptions - the Citroen Aircross X and Basalt X. Both these crossovers will be available in fully loaded turbo-petrol automatic guises at just over Rs 16 lakh on road.
With the latest X update, it now offers a good selection of features and upmarket interiors. The space and comfort on offer are superb, as is the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and 6-speed AT combination.
However, Citroen's service network is limited, so if you want an alternative, check out the Kia Syros. Though compact, it offers a lot of space, even for tall drivers.
Hi, I own a 2024 Tata Punch and it’s my first car. Although I am reasonably happy with it, it lacks punch and, being a small car, feels unsettling over bumps and bad roads. I am planning to upgrade to a more enthusiastic car with some heft. Is the Citroen Basalt X a good choice? Other models I’m considering are the Tata Nexon Turbo and Hyundai Venue Turbo.
Yes, the Citroen Basalt X will be better in both aspects that you desire. The turbo-charged engine is very peppy and is nice to drive, and the ride of the car is excellent, a typical Citroen hallmark.
We would rule out the Tata Nexon turbo as the power delivery isn't very strong like other typical turbo engines. If you want to consider something other than the Citroen, test drive the turbo version of the Nissan Magnite.
The 1.0-litre unit has a good mid-range punch and is something that you would enjoy.
I am planning to upgrade from a Polo. Should I go for the Citroen Basalt X or the Tata Sierra? My priorities are good build quality, driving dynamics, looks, and decent features.
I’m looking to own a car that is reliable, has good resale value, and low maintenance cost. It should have high torque and be punchy, with good handling and a rugged body. My budget is up to ₹20 lakh. Please suggest.
These two cars are very different, so it depends on your preference. The Citroen Basalt X is a natural upgrade from your Polo, offering fantastic ride and handling, a strong 1.2 turbo-petrol engine, and a pleasure to drive. However, compared to the Tata Sierra, the Basalt feels a couple of segments down.
It is nowhere near as well-equipped, and in fact, the Sierra’s most significant selling point is all the tech on offer, which includes three digital screens for the infotainment system, a top-notch audio system, ADAS features and a lot more. Also, the Sierra is more spacious and solidly built. Being an SUV, the Sierra is not as agile as the Basalt, but it's still a pleasure to drive and hence overall fits your needs better.
