The price cuts following GST 2.0 that came into effect in September, combined with the festive season, helped lift car sales in October. Most manufacturers saw a clear month-on-month recovery, though the gains were not uniform across the board. 

Maruti Suzuki remained the market leader, while Tata, Hyundai and Mahindra continued their close competition for second place. Here’s a closer look at how each brand performed.

Maruti Suzuki

Sales: 2,38,991, Change: +17.4 percent YoY

Maruti Suzuki remained the market leader in October, with 2,38,991 units sold – its highest-ever monthly sales. That’s a sharp jump from September’s 1,32,820 units, reflecting the boost from post-GST price adjustments and festive-season deliveries. On a year-on-year (YoY) basis, the increase was 17.4 percent.

Tata Motors 

Sales: 73,879, Change: +12.7 percent YoY 

Tata Motors secured second place with 73,879 units, a jump from the 59,667 units recorded in September. The YoY growth was 12.7 percent (over October 2024’s 59,241 units). The Nexon and Punch remained the brand’s key volume drivers, supported by steady demand for models like the Tiago and Altroz. Tata’s EV range also contributed to volumes.

Mahindra 

Sales: 67,442, Change: +9.58 percent YoY 

Mahindra sold 67,442 units in October, a year-on-year increase of over 9 percent from October 2024’s 61,544 units. In September 2025, it had sold 56,233 units. The demand remains concentrated around its core SUV line-up, including the Scorpio N, XUV 3XO, XUV700 and Thar, which continue to account for the bulk of volumes. Hyundai 

Sales: 65,048, Change: -7.4 percent YoY 

Hyundai registered 65,048 units in October, up from 51,547 units in September. However, it posted a year-on-year decline from the 70,171 units in October 2024. The Creta and Venue continued to drive volumes, with the Exter also adding steady numbers. 

Toyota 

Sales: 34,548, Change: +14.2 percent YoY 

Toyota registered 34,548 units in October, up from 29,328 units a year earlier. The Innova Hycross and Urban Cruiser Hyryder remained key contributors, while the Glanza and Rumion added steady volumes. The October figure also marks an improvement over September’s 27,089 units, reflecting festive demand.

Kia 

Sales: 32,738, Change: 9.9 percent YoY 

Kia’s 32,738 units in October are about a 10 percent improvement over last year’s 29,780 units. The October tally is also higher than September’s 22,700 units, helped by festive deliveries across models like the Seltos, Sonet and Carens. The brand continues to depend heavily on its SUV and MPV line-up for volumes. 

Skoda Volkswagen 

Sales: 12,055, Change: +34.3 percent YoY 

Continuing its strong year-on-year growth run, Skoda Auto Volkswagen reported 12,055 units in October. The momentum follows a solid September, when Skoda alone logged 6,636 units and crossed 53,000 units for the year. The Kylaq remains the group’s main volume contributor.

Honda 

Sales: 7,168, Change: -3.0 percent YoY 

Honda’s 7,168 units in October 2025 are a dip from 7,389 units a year ago. However, the brand’s numbers improved over September’s domestic tally of 5,303 units. The company’s portfolio remains limited compared to rivals, which has kept its monthly volumes relatively subdued despite the festive season uplift.

JSW MG Motor India 

Sales: 5,754, Change: -2.5 percent YoY 

JSW MG Motor reported 5,754 units in October, a slight year-on-year decline from 5,902 units in October 2024. This comes after a solid September, during which the brand posted 6,728 units, aided by steady demand for the Windsor and improved volumes for the Comet. October’s dip places MG, which has added the Windsor Inspire Edition to its range, among the few manufacturers that did not record growth during the festive month.

Renault 

Sales: 5,041, Change: +12.60 percent YoY

Renault recorded 5,041 units in October 2025, posting a 12.6 percent year-on-year increase. The Kwid and Triber remained the brand’s primary contributors, with steady demand through the festive month. While overall volumes remain modest, Renault’s YoY growth reflects stable interest in its entry-level lineup. 

Nissan 

Sales: 2,548, Change: -5.90 percent YoY 

Nissan reported 2,548 units in October 2025, a 5.9 percent decline compared to the same month last year. Nissan currently sells only the Magnite in India.
