Tata Motors has dropped teasers that briefly unmask the next-generation Sierra prior to its official launch on November 25. The iconic nameplate is making a comeback after the first-generation model’s production ended in 2003. Positioned above the Curvv in the brand’s line-up, Tata’s new midsize SUV is set to offer buyers a wide range of modern features and multiple powertrain options.

  1. Sierra elements include chunky B pillars and ‘wrap-over’ design for rear-side windows
  2. Dual-tone interior gets leather upholstery, 3 digital displays and rear sunblinds
  3. Will be available with ICE and electric powertrain options

Tata Sierra teaser reveals side profile

The teasers released by Tata Motors confirm a few design details of the production-spec Sierra while showcasing some styling cues borrowed from the near-production Sierra Concept. Iconic elements from the first-gen model include the high-set bonnet, thick B-pillars and squared-off front and rear fascias. There are also the rear-side windows that appear to wrap around the roof, a visual illusion brought on by the black sections of the roof.

The new Sierra also features subtly raised roof rails, full-width LED bars at the front and rear, and two-tone 19-inch alloy wheels. A teaser showcases the SUV with silver front and rear scuff plates, along with ‘SIERRA’ branding on the front grille, front doors and boot. A few other clear details include pop-out door handles, black lower-body cladding and partially blacked-out D pillars with a ‘floating’ effect.

New Tata Sierra interior and features

Another teaser revealed the production-spec Sierra’s premium-looking interior, which has a two-tone dashboard and steering wheel. The latter is a flat-bottom design with piano-black trim and (likely) an illuminated Tata logo. It is becoming increasingly apparent that the new Sierra will have a massive boot and seating for at least five occupants.

Tata Sierra panoramic sunroof

The Sierra’s confirmed features include an expansive digital real estate comprising three screens behind a single curved panel, LED cabin lights, a panoramic sunroof, rear-window sunblinds and an auto-dimming inner rearview mirror (IRVM). Other likely features are powered and ventilated front seats, wireless charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Level 2 ADAS, surround-view cameras and 6 airbags.

New Tata Sierra powertrain options

The engine options on the Sierra are expected to include three 1.5-litre mills, featuring petrol and diesel options. There will be manual and automatic transmissions, depending on the engine selected. Those with a penchant for green energy can pick the Sierra EV, whose exact specs are still under wraps. However, we expect it to be made available with 55kWh and 65kWh battery capacities.

Tata Sierra expected price and rivals

The new Tata Sierra’s ex-showroom prices will likely range between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 20 lakh. Meanwhile, the Sierra EV’s prices could range from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 25 lakh, and it will rival the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6 and the entry-level BYD Atto 3. The ICE-powered Sierra’s rivals will include the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, as well as Maruti Suzuki's Grand Vitara and Victoris.
