Nissan Tekton expert review
We like
Excellent ride quality
Enjoyable driving dynamics
Class-leading boot space
We don't like
Prominent turbo-lag with both engines
9.0
The Tekton is built on the same manufacturing plant and on the same assembly line as the Renault Duster, sharing its platform, powertrains, and much of its engineering. Though few of the parts, like the headlight, front grill, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a few exterior elements, give the Tekton a different bold identity. The vehicle dynamics are well suited to rough terrain. While details like the pillar-mounted rear door handles pay homage to classic Nissan SUVs, such as the Pathfinder and X-Terra. At the rear, the design of the LED tail lamp bears the strongest resemblance to the Nissan Patrol.
8.0
Inside the cabin, Nissan has done a commendable job of differentiating the cabin from the Duster. The leatherette-padded dashboard looks classic, along with the highlighting color scheme, which makes the cabin more premium. The visibility from the driver's seat is excellent, providing the driver with a commanding driving position. However, a taller driver may find the A-pillar slightly obstructing road visibility.
The air conditioning in the Nissan Tekton is something Nissan should work on, although the front ventilated seats are really good. Talking about the instrument panel, the Tekton’s instrument cluster is more conventional and easy to use. The feedback from the center stack assembly is highly appreciated and is an attribute that an SUV should have. The other interior features the Tekton features are a wireless charging pad, electrically adjustable front seats, a large central armrest console, rear AC vents, and two USB Type-C charging ports. What Nissan could have provided is boss mode for the electrically operated seat and rear sunblind within the package, but Nissan sells sunshades for both front and rear as an accessory.
9.0
The Tekton is well equipped with comfort, infotainment, and safety features. Features include a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, and a Google-integrated 10.1-inch touchscreen with Gemini voice assistant.
The safety features include an ADAS suite, and the Tekton has secured a 5-star BNCAP rating. The ADAS includes adaptive cruise control.
7.0
Nissan offers 3 powertrain choices for the Nissan Tekton.
The turbocharged 1.0-litre 3-cylinder MPFI engine, which is only paired to a 6-speed manual transmission, produces 100 hp and 166 Nm of torque. This engine feels adequate around town but suffers from turbo lag.
The 1.3-litre 4-cylinder direct injection engine is paired with two different transmissions. The 1.3 unit has a choice of both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed wet clutch DCT. This 1.3-litre engine's response is much better than the MPFi unit.
6.0
The claimed Nissan Tekton mileage is 19.4 kmpl for the 1.0 MPFi unit, 17.8 kmpl for the 1.3 GDI manual and 18.5 kmpl for the 1.3 GDI DCT. The auto engine stop-start function contributes to achieving this fuel efficiency.
9.0
The Tekton performs its intended role exceptionally well. Potholes and bad roads don't disturb the occupants much. The handling is good and inspires confidence, thanks to the electronic steering unit; though the lighter setting strikes the better balance between ease and precision, the braking performance is good as well, and as a package, the Nissan Tekton is a enjoyable car to drive.
8.0
Nissan offers the Tekton from Rs 10.49 lakh to Rs 18.59 lakh with 12 variants, with a choice of two different engines and three different powertrains.
The drawback of the Tekton is a lack of engine power punch and responsiveness, and the overall fuel efficiency might not satisfy every user. Neither the Duster nor the Tekton offers a diesel engine, but the Duster is expected to receive a hybrid powertrain, and Nissan has ruled that out for the Tekton.
The Tekton as a package is impressive; the exterior elements give it a rugged stance, well equipped with features, the cabin feels premium, and the rear seat may not be the most spacious in the segment but is comfortable to accommodate four adults and a big 518-litre trunk. The Tekton’s ride and handling are the best in the segment, which makes it a great, enjoyable car within the mid-sized SUV.

Nissan Tekton FAQs
The Tekton is underpinned by the same platform as that of the Duster, and offers the same engine options. However, both midsize SUVs differentiate themselves on the styling front. The Tekton adopts a rugged look inspired by those of bigger Nissan SUVs, while the Duster is sportier and more muscular in appearance.
The Tekton and Duster are very similar in terms of pricing and mechanicals, so you can go with whichever SUV appeals to you more and fits your budget better. However, it’s worth noting that the Duster will soon be offered with a hybrid powertrain, which the Tekton will miss out on.
While we are yet to drive the Nissan Tekton, we can draw inferences from the Renault Duster, as both are underpinned by the same platform. While the experience could change slightly, the Duster offers wide seats with comfortable cushioning. This, paired with a pliant ride quality, makes the Duster a comfortable car. While the Tekton's seat cushioning can differ, the ride is expected to be similar, and hence comfortable.
Yes, the Nissan Tekton offers all the features a midsize SUV buyer would expect, such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch driver's display, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging pad, 6-speaker Arkamys sound system, ventilated front seats, ADAS, and more.
Compared to the dry-clutch DCTs offered by most rivals, the Tekton's wet-clutch DCT is smoother in stop-go traffic conditions and less prone to overheating.
Questions you may find useful
I want to know which car under 12 lakh is suitable as per my requirements listed below. I only drive on weekends in Delhi's traffic. I want to finalize either Nissan Tekton base model 1.0 litre turbo engine and Brezza Turbo VXI. Is buying Turbo engine 3 cylinder not a good decision as I drive very less and that too within the city and less. I have heard that a turbo car requires more maintenance, is less fuel efficient, has carbon blockage, handling its wear and tear is also expensive compared to an NA engine .
Go for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXi. With your usage pattern which is very low running, mostly weekend city driving in Delhi traffic - a simple, naturally aspirated petrol engine is the better choice. It will be easier to live with, more predictable in stop-start conditions and generally lower maintenance over time. The Brezza is also a proven product with Maruti’s strong service network, which is a big advantage for long-term ownership. The Nissan Tekton is a good car, but the 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinder is not the ideal fit for your usage. Turbo petrol engines are at their best on highways, where the extra performance benefits come into play. In city driving with very low mileage, you are unlikely to see those benefits, and the engine can feel a bit laggy at low speeds. On your second question, the concerns around turbo petrol engines are often overstated. Modern turbo petrols are reliable, but they are more complex than naturally aspirated engines and can be more expensive to repair if something does go wrong. The key point is that they are not the ideal for low-mileage, city-only usage. The Brezza VXi is the safer, more sensible choice for your requirements.
Hi, I’m planning to buy an SUV under Rs 25 lakh. I’m considering the Nissan Tekton and the Hyundai Creta. However, since I can wait another 3-6 months, is it a good idea to wait for the next-generation Hyundai Creta before taking a decision? I’m looking at the Creta IVT option and am not interested in a strong hybrid.
If you can wait 3-6 months, it is worth waiting for the next-generation Hyundai Creta. Hyundai is expected to launch the all-new Creta in 2027, and it will be a completely new car on a new platform, not just a facelift. The current Creta is still a strong product, but it is nearing the end of its lifecycle, and the new model will likely bring significant improvements in design, technology and overall ownership experience. The Nissan Tekton is a good alternative and is a very good drivers car, so its a good buy if driving pleasure is high on your list. The new Creta is likely to be more of a relaxed commuter. Thus, if you can wait, it makes sense to see what the next-generation Creta has to offer before making a decision.
I am looking for a new car in the 4 meter segment. I am leaning towards tekton 1.3 Dct. Is it a good option compared to the rivals in this segment?
Comparing the specs of the Aircross X and Tekton it turns out that the Aircross develops 109bhp and 190 N-m Torque versus 99 bhp and 160 N-m Torque for the 1L turbocharged variant. Is the Aircross a "Wolf in Sheeps clothing" among its peers. It kinda throws a spanner in the works necessitating an additional vehicle to check out before the prospective Tekton buyer can proceed with a clear mind, the excellent interiors notwithstanding.
