Nissan India is slated to debut the Tekton on July 9, 2026. The SUVs' unveiling will mark the carmaker's return to the mid-size SUV space after the discontinuation of the Kicks in 2023. Essentially, the Tekton will be Nissan’s badge-engineered version of the Renault Duster that's already in our market.

  1. Tekton's exterior takes cues from the flagship Patrol SUV.
  2. Interior to get a three-tone colour scheme.
  3. To borrow powertrain options from the Renault Duster.

Nissan Tekton: Everything you need to know

The Tekton will utilise the Duster's underpinnings and engines. This includes a 100hp, 166Nm, 1.0-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine, and a 160hp, 280Nm, 1.3-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine. A 6-speed manual is standard on both engines, while the latter also offers a 6-speed DCT. It remains to be seen whether the Duster’s 160hp, 172Nm, 1.8-litre strong-hybrid petrol engine, paired with an e-CVT, makes it onto the Tekton.

Last year, Nissan partially revealed the Tekton’s exterior design, which looks quite different from the Duster’s. The flagship Nissan Patrol SUV-inspired fascia gets LED headlamps, connected LED DRLs, a wide grille with two chrome strips, and a dual-tone bumper. ‘Tekton’ branding is present on the muscular-looking bonnet.

The side profile of the Tekton is nearly identical to that of the Duster, with flared wheel arches, a black trim on the front doors, and rear door handles integrated in the window. However, it will feature a unique design for its alloy wheels, which are expected to be 18 inches in size. The rear features a connected LED tail-lamp setup, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a dual-tone look for the bumper. However, the tail-gate will get a single-tone finish, unlike the Duster’s, which gets a two-tone look.

Nissan also teased the Tekton's interior, wherein the dashboard gets soft-touch materials, blue and black accents and a copper-coloured strip. Its layout is expected to be similar to that of the Duster's, where the infotainment screen is angled toward the driver. Its feature set could likely mirror that of the Duster's, which includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger, dual-zone climate control, a powered tailgate and 6-way powered and ventilated front seats. A 360-degree camera and level 2 ADAS could potentially be part of the safety equipment.

The Tekton's price is expected to be in a similar range as the Duster, which is priced between Rs 10.49 lakh and Rs 18.49 lakh. Apart from the Duster, it will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Tata Sierra, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Grand Vitara and Victoris, Tata Sierra and Curvv, Citroen Aircross and Basalt, and the MG Astor.

Poll of the month

What do you think about the push for ethanol blends even higher than E20 petrol?

Good move; it cuts dependence on crude oil imports
I support it as it’s a greener solution than pure petrol
I’ll accept it only if it’s cheaper than E20 petrol
I am concerned about damage to my vehicle
Not good; fuel efficiency will drop even further
