This Nissan car comes with a fuel-efficient 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine, which should fit in your budget, and it's also powerful enough for your occasional highway trips. It's an SUV with a high seating position, light steering and light transmission controls, so you should be able to learn to drive easily with it.Other alternatives are the Tata Punch, which has a good safety rating but isn't as fuel-efficient and whose aftersales service isn't as strong, and the Hyundai Exter, which is easier to drive but hasn't got a safety rating from any NCAP authority. This Hyundai car is smaller in size, but that would make it a bit easier to park, and it's also more refined and within your budget, you will get a variant with all the basic features.

For mostly city driving with a budget of around Rs 10 lakh on-road, the Hyundai i20 1.2 IVT is the best upgrade from your current i10. It is easy to manoeuvre in traffic, the smooth CVT auto keeps running costs reasonable, and Hyundai’s service network and ownership experience are among the best in the segment. Though a mid-spec variant is what you'll get on your budget, the car is also decently equipped for the price, and the 1.2 petrol engine is smooth and reliable for daily city use.The other CVT available at this price is the Honda Amaze CVT, and here, too, you will get a mid-spec variant that is decently equipped. The sedan body style will feel like an upgrade from your i10, and offers more interior space and a bigger boot. The engine is more powerful and fun to drive than Hyundai's 1.2 petrol, and is also incredibly fuel-efficient.If you want an SUV body style, check out the Nissan Magnite, though, at your budget, you might have to settle for the naturally aspirated petrol with the AMT gearbox, and not the turbocharged engine with the CVT gearbox. Go for the Renault Triber or its sister car the Nissan Gravite. For a family of five on a tight Rs. 8 lakh budget, nothing gives you this much space and flexibility. You get real rear-seat room, easy access, and with the third row folded you have a huge boot for bags, strollers, or a weekly shop. The third row is quite useable too should you have extra passengers. Your running is modest, so the petrol suits fine, and it is easy to drive in the city. Lower and mid trims usually fit your budget in many cities, and there is an automatic option if you want it.The issue is performance. With five on board and luggage, it feels slow on highways or during overtaking. Cabin quality is simple too, but it is practical and tough enough for daily use.If you prefer a 5-seat hatchback and want something more polished, look at the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. It is roomy for five, very efficient, and cheap to run, though the boot is smaller than the Triber with seats folded. If you want a higher driving position, the Tata Punch is worth a look, but shoulder room for three at the back is tighter.
