The 2026 Honda City is offered in four trims:  SV, V, ZX and ZX+. Only the top-spec ZX+ is offered with the option of a strong-hybrid petrol engine alongside the naturally aspirated petrol engine.

SV: The base-spec SV gets a feature-loaded suite including all-LED lights, an 8-inch infotainment system, 4 speakers, auto AC with rear vents, and a push-button start/stop. Some cost-cutting is evident, however, because of the 15-inch steel wheels and fabric seat upholstery.

V: The V trim offers grey alloy wheels, Level 2 ADAS, Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, keyless entry and some automatic-only features like remote engine start and paddle shifters.

ZX: The ZX trim offers the most value-for-money in our opinion, offering a sunroof, a larger 10.2-inch infotainment, 8 speakers, 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, a LaneWatch camera, a wireless phone charger and leatherette seat upholstery.

ZX+: Over the ZX, the ZX+ gets upgrades like a part-digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera, front seat ventilation and auto-folding ORMs while locking and unlocking. This trim should be chosen only if budget is not a restraint for you.

Exterior Design And Engineering

7.0

The 2026 Honda City Hybrid receives a subtle but effective design refresh aimed at keeping the sedan contemporary without altering its familiar proportions. Changes include sleeker LED projector headlamps, a new honeycomb-pattern grille, a redesigned front bumper with functional air curtains and a cleaner 2D Honda logo. New dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels and smoked-effect LED tail-lamps add to the visual appeal. While the overall silhouette remains unchanged, the updates help the City look sharper and more sophisticated than before.

Interior Space And Comfort

8.0

The City continues to excel in cabin space and occupant comfort, retaining its reputation as one of the most accommodating sedans in the segment. The facelift introduces an ivory-and-black interior theme, revised trim finishes and redesigned front headrests that improve comfort. Rear-seat space remains a major strength, offering generous legroom and good under-thigh support. The airy cabin, comfortable seating and well-packaged interior continue to make the City a strong long-distance companion.

Features And Safety

7.0

Honda has enhanced the City Hybrid's feature list with the addition of ventilated front seats, a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 360-degree camera. Other equipment includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, an 8-speaker sound system, ambient lighting, connected car technology, a sunroof and rear sunblind. On the safety front, the sedan comes equipped with six airbags, Honda LaneWatch and a Level 2 ADAS suite featuring adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and collision mitigation functions. While the new touchscreen is larger, its interface still feels basic and visibility in bright sunlight remains a concern.

Performance And Refinement

7.0

The City Hybrid continues with Honda's e:HEV strong-hybrid system, combining a 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with two electric motors. The system produces a combined 126hp and 253Nm and is paired with an e-CVT transmission. The hybrid setup seamlessly switches between EV, Hybrid and Engine drive modes depending on driving conditions, ensuring smooth and efficient operation. Performance feels responsive in urban conditions and refinement remains a highlight, with the powertrain delivering a polished and effortless driving experience.

Mileage / Range And Efficiency

8.0

Efficiency remains one of the City Hybrid's standout strengths. Honda claims a fuel economy figure of 27.26kpl, making it one of the most fuel-efficient sedans on sale in India. During Autocar's drive, the onboard display consistently showed around 20kpl, indicating strong real-world efficiency as well. The hybrid system's ability to maximise EV operation during low-speed driving plays a significant role in reducing fuel consumption and enhancing overall efficiency.

Ride Comfort And Handling

8.0

The City continues to strike an excellent balance between ride comfort and handling. Its suspension absorbs broken roads and surface imperfections with impressive composure, while highway stability remains reassuring. The steering feels well-weighted and predictable, giving the driver confidence through corners. However, road noise and some engine noise are more noticeable than expected, slightly affecting the otherwise refined driving experience.

Value For Money

6.0

The 2026 City facelift is priced from Rs 12 lakh for the base SV petrol manual, and up to Rs 21 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom), the Honda City Hybrid remains the only strong-hybrid sedan in its segment. The facelift brings useful additions such as ventilated seats, a larger touchscreen and a 360-degree camera, while retaining the spacious cabin, comfortable rear seat and highly efficient hybrid powertrain. Although the updates are largely incremental and the price remains on the higher side, the City Hybrid continues to offer a unique blend of comfort, refinement and fuel efficiency that few rivals can match.

Honda City FAQs

The Honda City is mainly for buyers who want a good amount of interior space, comfort and fuel efficiency without sacrificing the fun-to-drive factor.

You only need to go for the top-spec City hybrid in case you need the Low Speed Follow and 360-degree camera functions of the Level 2 ADAS, or if you cover long distances regularly.

For most buyers, the City petrol with the CVT gearbox would be preferable as it offers decent mileage and good performance.

The Honda City is missing a full-digital driver's display and powered front seats, both of which rivals like the Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Virtus get.

At 506 litres, the Honda City’s boot is smaller than that of the Hyundai Verna, which has a capacity of 528 litres. It’s also smaller than the Skoda Slavia’s and Volkswagen Virtus’s, both of which come with 521-litre cargo capacity.

Hello Autocar team! I recently booked a Honda City ZX+ CVT. After test-driving both the Honda City and the Volkswagen Virtus, I found the City more comfortable and premium, but I noticed engine noise under hard acceleration and tyre and road noise at highway speeds. Based on your long-term testing experience, which car is better for 8-10 years of ownership in terms of suspension durability, highway comfort, cabin insulation and reliability? Is the City genuinely better, or is the Virtus technically superior in some areas? Please give us an unbiased opinion.

You are spot on in your observation about the high engine noise during hard acceleration on the Honda City CVT. That is a function of its CVT gearbox and the notorious 'rubberband effect' in which the revs rise sharply without a correspondingly quick increase in road speed. The CVT gearbox does have its advantages, with a smoother drive experience in city and low-speed conditions, but it's not the exciting choice. The Volkswagen Virtus is the superior driving car, thanks to its turbocharged engines and torque converter automatic and dual-clutch automatic gearboxes, depending on the engine you opt for. The Virtus is due for an update in the weeks to come, which will see the move to an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission for the 1.0 TSI engine. We've experienced the same engine and gearbox combination on the Skoda Slavia and found it to have uplifted the overall drive experience. In terms of cabin insulation, ride comfort, and even highway stability, the Virtus does feel superior to the Honda City. Fuel economy, however, is entirely dependent on your driving style. Drive with enthusiasm, and you'll see fuel economy dip quickly, which is something true for all turbo-petrol engines. While both the Honda City and Volkswagen Virtus are sound products, the City does have the more proven track record for reliability. That being said, there are no fundamental areas of concern on the Virtus. The upcoming update will also address the mediocre cooling, which has been a bugbear for the product since launch. To us, the Volkswagen Virtus is the car that will put a bigger smile on your face.

Hello Autocar India! We’re a family of three looking to replace our 2012 Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 VXi. It will be our second car, since we already own a Honda City bought in December 2025. The second car will be used for emergencies and for places with narrow roads or tight parking spots. We’ve shortlisted the Maruti Suzuki Swift LXi and the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Era. The second car will be used mostly in the city, while occasional highway trips will be done in the Honda. Since we’ve clocked only about 2,900 km on the City so far, it’s hard to estimate how much the second car will be driven. Is it worth stepping up to the Swift VXi AMT or the Grand i10 Nios Magna MT? I also have a couple of doubts: 1. The Z12E engine was launched only in 2024, so it isn’t as tried and tested as Hyundai’s 1.2 Kappa. What are your thoughts on its long-term reliability? 2. Since the Z12E is a three-cylinder engine, how will its refinement hold up over time? Thank you in advance!

The Maruti Suzuki Swift VXI AMT would be the right car for your requirements. The Swift is the newer car and feels better outside and inside. It also feels better suited to city use. The Z12E engine is tuned for low-end power and works well enough with the AMT gearbox. While the Z12E is a relatively new engine, you shouldn't have any trouble with long-term reliability. Suzuki's engines are renowned to be reliable and go on for years and years, provided you stick to regular maintenance schedules. The Z12E engine is also refined for a three-cylinder unit. It runs quiet and you can only feel a buzz at idle if you really pay attention. The engine will thrum when you rev it hard but that will be a rarity in your use case.Go ahead with the Maruti Suzuki Swift VXI AMT. It'll be a good second car to your Honda City.

Hi, I am thinking of replacing Toyota Corolla (2006 model) with a car under the budget of Rs. 20 - 22 lakh. Which car do you suggest replacing the trustworthy Corolla with as it has served me very well. I am considering the VW Virtus/ Skoda Slavia, VW Taigun /Skoda Kushaq and Honda City Hybrid.

The Honda City Hybrid is the closest modern equivalent to your Corolla. It offers a similar ownership philosophy: reliable, comfortable, easy to live with and efficient. The hybrid system delivers excellent fuel economy in city driving, and Honda's long-term reliability record is strong. The only drawback is that the boot is smaller than the standard City due to the battery pack. The Skoda Slavia and VW Virtus are both excellent sedans with strong turbo petrol engines and good driving dynamics, but they do not offer the same ownership simplicity or efficiency as the City Hybrid. The Skoda Kushaq and VW Taigun are more practical and offer better ground clearance for Indian roads, but they are not as refined or as comfortable as the City Hybrid. However, the City Hybrid is expensive, and will fall outside of your Rs 22 lakh budget. If you're okay with that and sold on the city, you should go ahead. There is another car to consider, however, and that's the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Hybrid. Not only does it come from the same reliable house of Toyota, but it gets you the practicality of an SUV and also falls within your budget. Do note, however, that its rear seat is not as spacious as what you'll get in the City hybrid.

Hi Autocar Team, I am currently driving a 2014 Honda City diesel and am looking to replace it with an EV. A few options I have in mind are the Mahindra BE 6 Pack One, Tata Sierra Pure 63 kWh, and MG Windsor EV. My budget is under Rs. 20 lakh. I would appreciate your suggestions and recommendations.

The Tata Sierra Pure 63 makes you feel like you've spent your money well thanks to a rich cabin experience. Coming from a Honda City, it'll feel like a proper upgrade as far as space, comfort, performance and ride handling go.The Mahindra BE 6 Pack One is an interesting option from a design and technology perspective. It feels like the sportiest one to drive of the three; however, cabin space feels cramped given its exterior dimensions. The Windsor EV is the most affordable of the lot, and even though it is more compact than the others, due to its excellent packaging, cabin and boot space are better than the others. Do keep in mind, though, that the Windsor's battery is the smallest and its real-world range will be much lower than the others. Also, its DC fast-charging speeds don't match the others. Lastly, its ride comfort isn't as plush as the Tata's either. In summary, the BE 6 is the sportiest to drive, the Windsor is good value, but given its excellent comfort, range and driving manners, the Sierra EV is our pick of the lot.

There is a 10% drop in mileage. Earlier my Honda city CVT used to give 11+ in bumber to bumper traffic now days it is giving only 10. Highways was always 19+ but now it gives 17-17.5 max
