Honda City all you need to know

Sedans may be a dying breed, but there’s one model that has been the flag bearer of this body style in India for over 25 years, and that’s the perennial Honda City. The midsize sedan segment has swelled and shrunk and again been repopulated over time, but the City has always maintained a strong foothold in it. Even amid its contemporary rivals, the City has a very charming appeal. In fact, it wouldn’t be a stretch to call it one of India’s most loved sedans. So, if you are looking to buy a new Honda City, here we have answered some of the most frequently asked questions about the popular sedan.

What is the price of the Honda City?

The Honda City has two engine options. There’s a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 121hp and 145Nm of torque, mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-step CVT gearbox. Meanwhile, the City e:HEV uses a strong-hybrid version of the 1.5-litre petrol engine to produce a total output of 126hp and is offered with an e-CVT gearbox.

Is the Honda City a well-equipped sedan?

The Honda City is a reasonably well-equipped sedan. Top variants of the City come with an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless phone charger, a semi-digital instrument cluster, a single-pane sunroof and even an ADAS suite. However, some rivals offer some additional features such as ventilated front seats, powered driver’s seat, large infotainment screens and fully digital driver’s displays.

What is the ground clearance of the Honda City?

The Honda City has a ground clearance of 165mm (unladen). While it is not class-leading (rivals like the Virtus and Slavia have 170mm), the City has sufficient ground clearance to deal with our imperfect roads.

How much is the boot space on the Honda City?

The Honda City has 506 litres of boot space. It’s large, deep and well-shaped, which means you’ll have no problem packing in a lot of luggage. Plus, as the City is a sedan, its load lip isn’t high.

Which is better, City or Elevate?

This is a matter of personal taste and use case. Both cars share the same petrol powertrain options and equipment list. If you like the stance and style of a traditional 3-box sedan, you can’t go wrong with the City. However, if you need the ground clearance and prefer a more upright and taller seating position, the Elevate would be the better choice. However, the Elevate does not come with the hybrid powertrain option.

Which is better, Honda City or Hyundai Verna?

7 things to know before buying a Honda City

Between the Verna and City, the former is better equipped, has a potent, 160hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, and is fun to drive, too. The City, on the other hand, is more understated and classier, and typical of Honda, has its fundamentals spot on, with a plusher ride quality and more engaging handling. In our comparison test of Verna CVT vs City CVT, it’s the latter that emerged as the winner.
