Hi, I live in a rural area of Telangana where I drive mostly on highways and expressways. I currently own a Honda Amaze diesel and want to upgrade. I am confused between the Skoda Kushaq and the Honda Elevate. Which one should I go for?

The Honda Elevate and Skoda Kushaq are good options for your usage. Given that you use a Honda Amaze, there will be a comfort factor in sticking to the Honda brand with the Elevate.

The Elevate is a well-engineered product with a robust suspension being one of the highlights. Top versions also get camera-based ADAS, which provides an additional layer of safety, especially on highway drives. Where the Elevate will leave you a bit wanting is in the powertrain. The engine is strong and likes to rev, but doesn't have the mid-range punch of a turbo-petrol. Further, the Elevate's CVT feels basic for this class of SUV.

The Skoda Kushaq doesn't have the same sense of space as the Elevate. However, the Kushaq has stronger turbo-petrol engines and better gearboxes. The 1-litre turbo feels punchy enough while the more powerful 1.5-litre turbo delivers exciting performance. If you enjoy driving, you'll also love the Kushaq's keen handling. The updated Kushaq that launches soon also promises enhanced AC cooling, which was an issue on the original model.

In essence, the Elevate is a safer, more familiar choice, while the Kushaq will be a more exciting choice for you.

I currently own a Honda Brio and plan to upgrade to a Cโ€‘segment midโ€‘size sedan in April 2026. Iโ€™m considering the Honda City e:HEV and the Hyundai Verna, both of which are expected to receive facelifts this year. Do you know if the facelifted models will be available for booking in April 2026?

The Honda City eHEV is the strong-hybrid version of the City. It is expensive, but if your running is on the higher side, you can take advantage of its high economy. However, the City is showing its age now, and the interior, although spacious, does not feel up-to-date.
The other option would be the Skoda Slavia, which will also get a facelift soon and will feature an updated equipment list. We would recommend holding on until the Slavia facelift is unveiled so you can make a more informed decision.
The Hyundai Verna facelift is expected a little later, around June 2026, and is also rumoured to feature a strong-hybrid powertrain. That could be worth waiting for if you are thinking of buying a strong-hybrid sedan.

Hi, I am currently driving a Toyota Fortuner 4x2 AT, and my daily driving is approximately 100km in the city. I want to upgrade to a new car, with a maximum net budget of โ‚น50 lakh after exchanging my existing car. I am open to both sedan and SUV options. Kindly suggest a suitable option.

A 100km daily city run is quite substantial, and the big, heavy Toyota Fortuner 4x2 AT isnโ€™t really the most convenient or efficient car for that kind of usage. However, since you are used to the toughness and reliability of the Fortuner, a logical upgrade would be to stay within the Toyota family.
The Toyota Innova HyCross in its strong-hybrid guise is a very sensible option. It offers excellent fuel efficiency, which will really help, given your high daily running. At the same time, it retains typical Toyota traits, like a tough build and strong long-term reliability. Compared to the Fortuner, the HyCross has a more practical and spacious cabin, and the top-spec version, which comfortably fits within your Rs 50 lakh net budget, even gets Ottoman recliners in the middle row, adding a real touch of comfort.
If youโ€™d like to explore an SUV outside Toyota, the Skoda Kodiaq is worth considering. Itโ€™s a full-size seven-seater with a stronger focus on comfort and luxury, offering a more urbane and premium feel compared to the hardy Toyotas. The Volkswagen Tayron is essentially the same car underneath, with a slightly different interior treatment and character. Both the Kodiaq and Tayron are better suited to urban driving in terms of refinement and comfort, but the Toyota would still edge ahead in terms of efficiency and long-term peace of mind.
You could also consider the Toyota Camry, which would actually be our pick. Sedans inherently offer better ride comfort and handling balance for city use, and the Camry is spacious, extremely comfortable and easy to get in and out of. For your kind of daily driving, it would feel far more relaxed and effortless while still giving you the Toyota reliability youโ€™re accustomed to.

Kia Sonet HTX Diesel AT vs Skoda Kyalq AT - which one should I go for? We are a family of 4-5 people and often go on outings with luggage. Also, for an enthusiast, which one would be better for long drives when comparing both at the same price point?

Between the Kia Sonet and the Skoda Kylaq, the Kylaq is the better choice for you, especially if driving enjoyment and long-distance comfort matter. It is the nicer car to drive, has a more comfortable ride on highways and feels excellent value for money.

The Sonet is still a good all-round compact SUV, but it is not as engaging to drive as the Skoda Kylaq, particularly in terms of handling. Another factor to keep in mind is that the Sonet is expected to be replaced in about a year. It means there is a chance it could start feeling dated sooner than you would like. The rear seat on the Sonet is also on the tighter side.

Since you have mentioned that there will be occasions when five people travel together with luggage. It is important to note that both the Kylaq and the Kia Sonet are relatively narrow cars and are most comfortable as four-seaters on long trips. If proper five-seat comfort is a priority, the Mahindra XUV 3XO is a strong alternative. Its wider body allows it to accommodate five adults in better comfort. It is also a fun car to drive thanks to its punchy 1.2 turbo petrol engine and well-sorted suspension.

Hello sir, I currently own a 2019 Ford EcoSport Thunder Edition diesel (BS4). I want to ask whether I should keep it until the next decade or replace it sooner. My daily running is very low and it will mainly be used for long road trips. If I should replace it, what cars should I consider in the compact SUV segment? Please help. I like its quirks and performance.

Given your low daily running and usage largely limited to long road trips, it makes a lot of sense to keep your Ford EcoSport diesel if it is running fine. It is a car you clearly enjoy, its performance still holds up well, and for highway use, the diesel remains efficient and relaxed. There is also no urgency to replace it purely due to age, so holding on till the next decade is perfectly sensible.

If you decided to replace it, and are specifically looking at compact SUVs, two strong options to consider are the Skoda Kylaq and the Mahindra XUV 3XO. The Kylaq is great to drive, feels comfortable on long journeys and is spacious enough for four adults. It is also being very well priced for what it offers. Its main limitation is the narrow body, which makes it more of a strict four-seater rather than a true five-seater.

The XUV 3XO, on the other hand, offers a wide cabin and a genuinely spacious interior, making it a better option if you often travel with five people. Its punchy 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine makes it enjoyable to drive, though fuel efficiency will be on the lower side. The boot is the smallest in the segment in terms of usable space.

Hi, I need an automatic car for a daily commute of 50 km on weekdays in Mumbai city. I will hardly be taking any long trips on weekends or otherwise. Which car would you suggest: Harrier Petrol, 7XO Diesel or Seltos NA/Turbo, considering that I currently drive a Kushaq 1.0 manual? Budget is 25 lakh.

Purely as an urban commuter, the Kia Seltos NA Petrol IVT is the best option in terms of smoothness and user-friendliness. It is larger than your current car, and will feel like a proper upgrade in terms of space, comfort, features and tech.
Do keep in mind that your Skoda Kushaq's Turbo-Petrol engine is more powerful in comparison, and the Seltos 1.5 NA's performance could feel a bit underwhelming on the open road. Its turbo-petrol version will feel relatively more effortless.
The Tata Harrier and XUV 7XO are larger cars, and since you don't plan to use the new car for long trips, these could feel too big to drive in Mumbai's traffic.

How good is the Kia Syros AT petrol? My travel is around 1500-1800 km per month, with 80% city usage. Please suggest which to choose between Kylaq, Syros and 3XO.

The Kia Syros is the most distinctive of the compact SUVs, with cabin space being its trump card. It's not only the roomiest compact SUV, but it is also more spacious than some mid-sized SUVs. Excellent cabin quality and great tech (touchscreen, dials and camera) are other highlights. For someone like you who will spend a lot of time in their vehicles, the Syros ace on that feel-good factor. On the flip side, ride comfort is on the firm side, and the DCT can also feel jerky at times during low-speed driving.
The Skoda Kylaq and XUV 3XO are more conventional and go one up on the Syros with smoother gearboxes and more absorbent suspensions. The Kylaq isn't as spacious, but it has a solidity to it and is also the most fun compact SUV to drive. The Mahindra XUV 3XO is the most powerful compact SUV and boasts a tough build and good interior space. If the Syros' ride comfort is a deal breaker, your next best bet would be the 3XO.

I am 42 years old and a car enthusiast who loves driving and values performance, comfort, and handling. I previously owned a Renault Duster and now have a Citroรซn Basalt X Turbo AT. I want to buy a city car for daily Pune commuting within โ‚น15 lakh. It should have good power, decent safety with essential safety features, and no gimmicks - just pure driving joy. I want only automatic, so my wife can learn to drive it as well. The Basalt X will stay, and this new car will accompany it. My monthly running is around 700 km, and my city commute is mostly on smooth roads rather than stop-and-go traffic.

The Skoda Kylaq is a good fit for your requirements. It is an enjoyable car to drive, thanks to its punchy 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that delivers strong performance. The suspension setup strikes a fine balance, offering a comfortable ride for everyday use while still feeling sporty and engaging on a ghat road.

Its compact dimensions make it easy to drive and park in the city, yet it offers enough space to comfortably seat four adults. The boot is also large and usable, adding to its everyday practicality.

Within your budget, you can opt for the top-spec Prestige variant, which is very well equipped. Importantly, even the lower variants of the Kylaq come with all the essential features most buyers would want. This makes the range a good value across the board.

I am looking for a new car for my daily city runs with some hop-in, hop-out highway usage. My current monthly running is around 500-600 km. We are a family of four and want a car with good stability, performance, and safety. We also plan 3-4 yearly trips to Uttarakhand. My maximum budget is โ‚น11 lakh, so please suggest a good car based on my requirements. I currently own a Maruti WagonR.

Given your requirements, you should consider the Skoda Kylaq

The compact SUV can comfortably accommodate four adults, it has composed high-speed manners, engaging handling, and it has received a 5-star crash safety rating from Bharat NCAP. The Kylaq is also one of the quickest accelerating compact SUVs thanks to its punchy 115hp, 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. It can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

If you want the manual, go for the Kylaq Signature, which is priced at Rs 10.67 lakh (on-road, Delhi). Also, if you want an automatic, opt for the Kylaq Classic+, which costs Rs 10.47 lakh (on-road, Delhi).
