I’m planning to upgrade my 10-year-old Petrol Manual Baleno Delta, which has completed around 1.1 lakh km. I’m currently considering Kia Seltos HTX 1.5 IVT with ADAS & 360° camera, Mahindra XUV 7XO AX5 Automatic and the newly refreshed Skoda Slavia AT. My usage will be primarily city driving, with occasional highway trips of around 600 km. My wife also prefers a higher seating position due to back pain. Which would be the best overall choice for my requirements? Should I consider the refreshed Slavia AT, or would either Seltos or XUV 7XO be more suitable? My top priority are safety, relatively low maintenance cost and good mileage. I am not very keen on car with a lot of features.

Go for the Kia Seltos HTX 1.5 IVT. It is the best fit for your requirements. Your usage is predominantly city driving with occasional long highway trips, and your wife prefers a higher seating position due to back pain. The Seltos offers a comfortable, slightly elevated driving position, good visibility and a well-balanced ride that makes it easy to live with in daily traffic. The 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with the IVT automatic is smooth, reliable and efficient, which aligns well with your priorities of low maintenance costs and good mileage. Kia's service network is strong, and the Seltos has a solid ownership track record. The Mahindra XUV 7XO AX5 Automatic is a good car, but it is a larger, heavier SUV and the petrol automatic is not as efficient as the Seltos IVT. It is also a bigger car to manoeuvre in the city, which may not be ideal given your usage pattern. The refreshed Skoda Slavia AT is a nice sedan with a comfortable ride and strong performance, but it does not offer the higher seating position your wife prefers. The Seltos HTX IVT strikes the right balance between comfort, safety, reliability and ease of ownership. It is the car you are most likely to be happy with over the next 5-10 years.

I am confused between the Seltos and the new facelifted Slavia. My budget is around Rs. 16-17 lakh, and I want a family car with good comfort, boot space, mileage, and an enjoyable driving experience on highways. I am also considering the Syros EV. I don't want a diesel or an automatic. I prefer petrol and a manual if I don't go for an EV. Please suggest the best option and variant.

Based on your requirements, the Skoda Slavia facelift is the better fit. This Skoda car is a family car with good comfort, a large boot, decent mileage and is properly fun to drive. The 1.0 TSI engine is punchy, the 6-speed manual gearbox is slick, and the car feels planted and stable at speed. The Seltos is a very good all-rounder, but at your budget you will be looking at a lower variant, and the Slavia simply offers a more complete package for your needs. The Syros EV is worth considering only if you have home charging and predominantly city usage. For your requirements, the Slavia 1.0 TSI manual is the best choice.

I currently own a Skoda Slavia, but it requires premium petrol, and the mileage is as low as 8-9 kmpl on average. Please suggest a good hybrid car under Rs. 20 lakh that is reliable and safe. Also, what kind of mileage can I expect on the highway?

You do not have to use premium petrol in your Skoda Slavia. The 1.0 TSI engine is designed to run on regular petrol, and using premium fuel will not significantly improve performance or reliability. The bigger concern is your fuel efficiency of 8-9 km/l, which is quite low for this engine. This is likely due to heavy city traffic, short trips or driving style rather than the fuel itself. If you are looking for a reliable, safe and efficient hybrid under Rs 20 lakh, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris Hybrid is the best option. It uses the same strong hybrid system as the Grand Vitara and Hyryder, offering excellent fuel efficiency in both city and highway conditions. On the highway, you can realistically expect over 20kpl depending on your driving style and speed. The Victoris also benefits from Maruti's wide service network and a slightly more premium interior than the Grand Vitara. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Hybrid is essentially the same car with the same hybrid system, so the choice comes down to brand preference and dealership experience. Both are reliable, safe and efficient options that will significantly reduce your running costs compared to the Slavia.

I am currently using my dad's Maruti Ritz and wish to upgrade to a more premium sedan or SUV. My current shortlist includes the Toyota Hyryder Strong Hybrid, Skoda Slavia, and Honda City e:HEV. Several thoughts and concerns keep coming to mind regarding each vehicle. The Hyryder is not a proper SUV, and its 3-cylinder engine has more vibration than 4-cylinder engines. The Slavia's 4-cylinder engine is giving single-digit fuel efficiency, especially with the E20 fuel concerns. I am also worried about the long-term maintenance of its turbo engine. The City e:HEV is priced above Rs. 20 lakh, attracting luxury tax, and its on-road price goes beyond Rs. 25 lakh. I am not sure whether the cost-benefit equation will work in favour of the City. The Slavia facelift is also around the corner. I wish to keep my next car for at least 10 years.

Based on your requirements, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Strong Hybrid is the most sensible upgrade. Your concerns about the 3-cylinder engine are understandable, but in the hybrid, the petrol engine is assisted by the electric motor, which smooths out the power delivery and reduces the typical 3-cylinder vibrations. This Toyota car also delivers excellent fuel efficiency, especially in city driving, which will make a significant difference over a 10-year ownership period. While it may not be a "proper" SUV in the traditional sense, it offers a higher seating position, good ground clearance and a comfortable ride, making it a practical and premium upgrade from the Ritz. The Honda City e: HEV is a strong alternative, but the higher price pushes it into a different budget bracket, and the cost-benefit equation becomes harder to justify. The Skoda Slavia is a great driver's car with a smooth 4-cylinder engine, an extremely practical cabin and strong performance, but if efficiency is a high priority, it is best to stick to the strong hybrid. The Slavia will receive an update soon, which will also feature a new gearbox which replaces the earlier Aisin-sourced 6-speed torque converter (AQ250) with a newer Aisin 8-speed torque converter (AQ300). This will be exclusive to the 1.0-litre engine and will be a bit more efficient too. However, in comparison to a strong hybrid, nothing really comes close. Overall, the Hyryder Strong Hybrid offers the best balance of efficiency, reliability and ownership experience for your needs.

I need a sedan, I drive 80% in the city where roods are pretty poor. My priorities are efficiency and ability to handle bad roads. Which one should I pick among Slavia, city and Verna?
