Hyundai Verna mileage is certified by ARAI at 20.6kpl for the turbo-petrol with the dual-clutch automatic and 19.6kpl for the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine with the CVT. In our own testing the turbo dual-clutch returned a real-world average of 13.5kpl when driven without much aggression, while the turbo manual sat at around 10kpl.

Which model fits my driving:

  • The turbo with the dual-clutch carries the highest certified figure at 20.6kpl, which is unusual for the more powerful engine in a range.

  • Our real-world 13.5kpl from that same combination is the number to budget against, and it depends heavily on how gently you drive.

  • The turbo manual returned closer to 10kpl in our hands, so the automatic is the more economical way to have the turbo.

  • The naturally aspirated engine with the CVT at 19.6kpl suits buyers who mostly drive in the city.

  • There is no diesel and no hybrid in the range, so all options here are petrol.

Questions you may find useful

I have a 2021 Hyundai Venue (second base variant), and my daily running is around 45-50 km. Should I replace it with a new car, or should I continue using it? If I do replace it, should I choose an EV or a petrol car? I am looking for a car that offers good comfort, spacious interiors, good mileage, and an automatic transmission. Would the Hyundai Verna HX6 Plus Automatic be a good choice, or would you recommend a better petrol or EV option?

With a daily running of 45- 50 km, you are already clocking around 16,000- 18,000 km a year, which is a healthy mileage. And if you can arrange for home charging, an electric car will significantly reduce your running costs.Since you have a Rs 15-20 lakh budget, you can consider the new Kia Syros EV. This Kia car is a compact yet very spacious car, with excellent cabin comfort, and is feature-rich too. This will be a good upgrade from your outgoing vehicle. If you want an ICE vehicle, the Hyundai Verna HX6 Plus automatic is a good option and the Verna price starts at Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This Hyundai car offers excellent comfort, a spacious cabin and a smooth automatic gearbox. The Hyundai Verna Mileage is up to 13.5kpl in real-world driving. Both the Syros EV and Verna IVT are excellent options.

I am getting a Hyundai Verna 2013 FLUIDIC 1.6 VTVT SX at 3.8 lakh on road and an i20 2015 Asta 1.2 at 3.84 lakh on road through a renowned used car platform. Please let me know which out of above two should be preferred ideally. I have occasional office drives of around 600 km monthly, weekend city drive with family and annual 4-5 trips to our native in Konkan. I am a fan of Hyundai's fluidic design hence I am attracted to the looks of both cars. Also the price seems to be tempting. Please let me pros and cons of both vehicles in terms of their usage life, mileage, maintainance and their suitability to my use.

My 2025 Verna naturally aspirated automatic is providing only 7- 9 km/l mileage in the city with the AC switched on. Is this the same experience for other owners, or is there something wrong with my car? The car has run only 3.5k km so far.

That fuel efficiency figure does sound a little on the lower side for the Hyundai Verna naturally aspirated petrol automatic, but it is not necessarily abnormal depending on your driving conditions. In dense city traffic with the AC running, frequent stop-start driving and short trips, it is not uncommon for fuel efficiency to drop into the 7-9 km/l range. The Hyundai Verna Mileage is up to 13.5kpl in real-world driving, while the DCT claims 20.6kpl as per ARAI. The Verna’s naturally aspirated petrol engine is smooth and refined, but it is not the most fuel-efficient unit in heavy urban conditions, especially when paired with an automatic gearbox. At 3,500 km, the engine is still relatively new and may improve slightly as it loosens up, but do not expect a dramatic change. If your driving is predominantly bumper-to-bumper city traffic with the AC on, this figure is within the expected range. If you start seeing figures below 7 km/l consistently, or if this Hyundai car feels sluggish or rough, it would be worth having the car checked by the service centre. Otherwise, this is largely a reflection of the driving conditions rather than a problem with the car.

I need a sedan, I drive 80% in the city where roods are pretty poor. My priorities are efficiency and ability to handle bad roads. Which one should I pick among Slavia, city and Verna?

6w

I prefer sedans to the pseudo SUVs available in the market. Does this make sense in 2026? In sedans, my preference is the Hyundai Verna. Should I go for the Hyundai Verna HX10 DCT or the Hyundai Verna HX10 IVT? I drive the car myself, and my running is intercity, with roughly 80% of it on highways. I drive around 2,500-3,000 km a month. Safety, mileage, performance, and easy, pocket-friendly maintenance are my main concerns. At present, I own a Hyundai i20 Asta (O) DCT.

Go for the Verna HX10 DCT for your use. With 2,500-3,000 km a month and 80% of it on the highway, you'll prefer the added punch from the turbo-petrol engine. The DCT is the quicker, more exciting choice. If you live for sharp overtakes and already enjoy your i20 DCT, you will like it. The Hyundai Verna Mileage is up to 13.5kpl in real-world driving, while the DCT claims 20.6kpl as per ARAI. The 1.5 petrol IVT of this sedan car will be smoother in the city and slightly better on city mileage, but given your usage, the difference won't be so much.Either way, the safety kit is the same, and the Verna stays stable and quiet at speed. The Verna has also scored a 5-star Global NCAP crash test rating. And yes, choosing a sedan still makes sense in 2026 - the lower centre of gravity means better highway stability and braking, and you will usually get better mileage than a similar SUV at this price. The Hyundai Verna price starts at Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hyundai Verna FAQs

In our tests, the pre-facelift Verna has been surprisingly frugal, hovering around 9.5-10kpl, and even crossing 11kpl on late-night drives. The average is a respectable 10kpl, mostly in Eco mode.

With a real-world mileage of 10kpl, the Hyundai Verna turbo-petrol-MT can go up to 450 kilometres on a full tank.

As per the ARAI cycle, the Hyundai Verna 1.5 NA CVT is rated at 19.6kpl, making it suitable for those seeking a fuel efficient sedan with the convenience of an automatic gearbox. In fact, the 1.5 turbo-petrol-DCT powertrain is even more efficient, returning 20.6kpl.

Yes, the Hyundai Verna turbo-petrol-DCT has the upper hand in the real-world when it comes to fuel efficiency.

The Honda City hybrid has a claimed 27.26kpl figure, far ahead than rivals.
