I have a 2021 Hyundai Venue (second base variant), and my daily running is around 45-50 km. Should I replace it with a new car, or should I continue using it? If I do replace it, should I choose an EV or a petrol car? I am looking for a car that offers good comfort, spacious interiors, good mileage, and an automatic transmission. Would the Hyundai Verna HX6 Plus Automatic be a good choice, or would you recommend a better petrol or EV option?

With a daily running of 45- 50 km, you are already clocking around 16,000- 18,000 km a year, which is a healthy mileage. And if you can arrange for home charging, an electric car will significantly reduce your running costs.Since you have a Rs 15-20 lakh budget, you can consider the new Kia Syros EV. This Kia car is a compact yet very spacious car, with excellent cabin comfort, and is feature-rich too. This will be a good upgrade from your outgoing vehicle. If you want an ICE vehicle, the Hyundai Verna HX6 Plus automatic is a good option. This Hyundai car offers excellent comfort, a spacious cabin and a smooth automatic gearbox. Both the Syros EV and Verna IVT are excellent options.

I have a 2016 Hyundai Verna Diesel, which I have driven well past its prime, and I am now looking to replace it with a new car. My budget is around Rs. 20 - 25 lakh. My daily running is around 40 km, along with 200 - 300 km on weekends. I would prefer a car with slightly higher ground clearance, as my Verna scrapes a lot on Bengaluru's roads. I also want to know whether buying a diesel car is still a good choice, considering my current usage. When I bought the Verna, my daily running was around 75 km.

With your running of 40 km daily plus 200-300 km on weekends, you are still a strong diesel candidate, especially given your highway usage. Diesel remains a sensible choice for high-mileage owners, and there is no reason to avoid it purely because of future uncertainty. The bigger issue with the Hyundai Verna was ground clearance, so moving to an SUV is the right call. The Kia Seltos diesel AT is the best fit. Its engine is refined and offers good performance, and it has significantly better ground clearance than the Verna, making it well suited to Bengaluru roads. This Kia car is also a genuinely premium product with a spacious cabin and a strong ownership proposition. If you are looking for a three-row vehicle, then the Carens Clavis and Mahindra XUV 7XO are strong choices too. The key point is that diesel still makes sense for your usage, and the Seltos is the most complete upgrade in your budget.

I am planning to buy Honda City V CVT. Is it still worth buying the Honda City in 2026 from a long-term (7-10 years) ownership and reliability standpoint? Or should I consider other cars in the segment, such as the Virtus, Slavia, or Verna?

Verified
1w

Yes, the Honda City V CVT is still worth buying in 2026 from a long-term ownership and reliability perspective. The City remains one of the most dependable and well-rounded sedans in the segment, with a proven naturally aspirated petrol engine, smooth CVT gearbox and Honda's strong reputation for reliability and low maintenance costs. It is also a very comfortable and spacious family car, with a well-sorted ride and a premium ownership experience. The Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia are more driver-focused cars with stronger turbo petrol engines and a more engaging driving experience, but they do not have the same long-term reliability track record as the City. The Hyundai Verna is a strong all-rounder with a more feature-rich cabin and a more powerful turbo petrol option, but the City still feels more practical and better suited to long-term ownership. If your priority is a car that you can keep for 7-10 years with minimal fuss, the City remains the safest and most sensible choice in the segment. The only reason to look at the Virtus, Slavia or Verna would be if you specifically want a more powerful turbo petrol engine and good driving dynamics Otherwise, the City V CVT is still the benchmark for long-term ownership.

Hi. I have shortlisted two cars for my purchase, Hyundai Verna HX6 IVT and Kia Seltos HTK IVT, both petrol. My running will be 80% in the city of Kolkata. I plan to keep the car for 8-10 years. This will be the only car in the family. General occupancy while running will be 2-3 people (people in their 30s and occasionally older people). What could be a better choice as a family car?

The Hyundai Verna HX6 IVT is better equipped, and it has a larger boot than the Seltos. If you do a lot of airport runs, this is the better option. And being a sedan, it will feel nicer to drive than the Kia car, and it is likely to be more efficient too.Pick the Kia Seltos HTK IVT for its elevated driving position, more modern interior, and high ground clearance. Also, the Seltos will be easier for the elderly to get in and out. Overall, it will feel a bit nicer and comfier; hence, it is the one we'd recommend.

My 2025 Verna naturally aspirated automatic is providing only 7- 9 km/l mileage in the city with the AC switched on. Is this the same experience for other owners, or is there something wrong with my car? The car has run only 3.5k km so far.

Verified

That fuel efficiency figure does sound a little on the lower side for the Hyundai Verna naturally aspirated petrol automatic, but it is not necessarily abnormal depending on your driving conditions. In dense city traffic with the AC running, frequent stop-start driving and short trips, it is not uncommon for fuel efficiency to drop into the 7-9 km/l range. The Verna’s naturally aspirated petrol engine is smooth and refined, but it is not the most fuel-efficient unit in heavy urban conditions, especially when paired with an automatic gearbox. At 3,500 km, the engine is still relatively new and may improve slightly as it loosens up, but do not expect a dramatic change. If your driving is predominantly bumper-to-bumper city traffic with the AC on, this figure is within the expected range. If you start seeing figures below 7 km/l consistently, or if this Hyundai car feels sluggish or rough, it would be worth having the car checked by the service centre. Otherwise, this is largely a reflection of the driving conditions rather than a problem with the car.
