MY daily commute is 40km & I am planning to buy a bike or an EV scooter, please suggest me a petrol bike between Pulsar NS400Z / Apache RTX 300 and an electric scooter River Indie/ Keeway Electric Scooter

An electric scooter is the more practical and frugal way to approach your 40km daily commute, and in that regard, the River Indie will make for a spacious and practical machine with more than sufficient range for your needs. The new Keeway Hypevolt-R is a far more expensive product from an unknown brand, so we wouldn't really recommend it unless you absolutely must have something distinctive and flashy with seriously zippy performance. On the other hand, the petrol-powered motorcycle is a fun way to tackle your 40km commute. The 350cc Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is a really fun machine with its lovely top-end rush of power and crisp handling characteristics. The TVS Apache RTX 300 will be a little slower, but it will compensate for it with far better comfort and features.Really, the choice will come down to what sort of experience you want consistently on your commute, and we'd advise a test ride of the Indie as well as the bikes you've shortlisted before you make your decision.

How is the River Indie EV? I am planning to buy an electric scooter for my daily commute of up to 30 km. I currently use a Honda Aviator, which is now 15 years old.

The River Indie is an impressive electric scooter and will serve you nicely. It is a large, spacious and comfortable machine that focuses on maximising utility rather than frilly features. Its 43 litre underseat storage is the largest on an electric scooter today and can swallow a lot of daily essentials like groceries, a backpack, a large helmet and also have space for the charger. The only thing to be mindful of is its size and weight, because if you are of a shorter stature, then the Indie's size could potentially prove to be too big for you. In that case, we would recommend you opt for one of these three - TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak and Ather Rizta. Make sure you take a test ride of these before you decide to go ahead with your purchase, so you can make an informed decision.

Hi Autocar, I am looking for an electric scooter, and my budget is around ₹1.5 lakh. I have taken test rides of the Vida VX2 Plus, Ather 450 X, Rizta, and River Indie. I like the 450X, but it is out of my budget. My priorities are good performance and decent range. Please help me choose an EV scooter.

Since you said you like the Ather 450 X but it's out of your budget, we'd recommend taking a look at the 450S. It loses out on some techy features and the more exciting Warp mode you'll get on the 450X, but the rest of the chassis remains the same. You also have the same 90kph top speed on both, and its Sport mode is pretty engaging too. However, for daily usage, we've found the Ather 450 models to be a tad sporty and cramped, so unless performance outweighs practicality for you, we'd steer you toward more practical options like the Rizta, Bajaj Chetak 35 models and the TVS iQube range. Since you've also ridden the River Indie, that could be a great option if practicality is your paramount requirement. You need to decide what matters the most to you, performance or practicality and comfort, and take a call accordingly.

I already own a TVS Jupiter 125 SXE and am now planning to buy an electric scooter. I recently test-rode the River Indie and was quite impressed. My daily commute is around 20km (to and fro), and my monthly running is approximately 600-700km, including visits to my in-laws, who live about 30km away and whom I visit 2-3 times a month. I would like your advice on whether the River Indie would be a good purchase for my usage. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

The River Indie is a competent product from a newly-established startup, and if you have a showroom and service center in your city, it is an EV that definitely deserves serious consideration. Given that your daily running is 30km, the Indie's range should be more than sufficient for your needs. If you are comfortable with its weight and size, then you can go ahead and buy this River scooter.

I’m planning to buy a new scooter since my Ntorq has completed over 50,000 km and needs some rest. My daily running is about 50 km. I had initially planned to buy the Rizta 3.7, but now Yamaha is launching the Indie Twin. Should I wait for it? Also, when can we expect the EC-06 to launch?

From our experience with the practical and comfortable River Indie, it seems likely that the Yamaha EC-06 will carry forward those qualities as well. However, it remains to be seen what Yamaha's sales and service network for its EVs shapes up to be, and that is a crucial factor to consider. We would recommend you stick to the proven mainstream players like the Ather Rizta, Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube if you're looking for an electric scooter right now.

I have been using a Mahindra Gusto since 2015 for my daily commute of about 20 km. Should I continue with it or buy an EV scooter?

Since your scooter is already quite old and not E20 compliant, we would recommend changing to a newer petrol scooter or an EV.If you’re interested in an electric scooter, consider options like the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, Ather Rizta, or River Indie. Make sure you choose a variant that offers enough range for your daily use. However, if EVs seem too expensive, a new petrol scooter like the TVS Jupiter 110 or the Suzuki Access will fit the bill.

I am a 6'2" male weighing about 92 kg. I want to buy a new electric scooty or scooter with a daily range of 50-60 km. I live in Uttar Pradesh and will be riding on poor road conditions. Please advise which model I should buy.

Considering your physique, we would recommend e-scooters like the Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube or River Indie. All three are spacious and comfortable, although the Indie is the largest of them all and likely to be the best bet in this regard. If there is a River showroom near you, you can go with the Indie. If not, then either of the Bajaj or TVS models will serve you decently well. Given your 60km daily run, we'd recommend picking a variant with a battery larger than 3kWh.
