Ampere Nexus ST Model Intro
The Ampere Nexus ST marks the brand's most premium and feature-rich electric scooter to date. Developed and manufactured in India, it enters a competitive segment, challenging established players like the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, and Ather Rizta. With a 3kWh LFP battery and a peak motor output of 4kW, the Nexus ST aims to offer a blend of comfort, practicality, and modern features for urban commuters.
The Nexus ST stands out with its comfortable ride quality and practical features, making it a commendable choice for daily commuting. However, areas like performance, range, and certain design elements leave room for improvement, especially when compared to its rivals.
Finished in the eye-catching Zanskar Aqua shade, the Nexus boasts a pearlescent finish that enhances its visual appeal. The design is subtle yet tasteful, with decent overall build quality. However, certain elements, like the sharp-edged plastic around the under-handlebar storage compartment and the simplistic charger design, suggest cost-cutting measures.
The Nexus offers a comfortable and nimble riding experience, well-suited for urban commuting. Its suspension setup effectively absorbs bumps at lower speeds, ensuring a smooth ride for both the rider and pillion.
Powered by a 4kW motor, the Nexus achieves 0-60kph in 12.98 seconds in Power mode, placing it among the slower scooters in its segment. In Eco mode, it takes over 12 seconds to reach 40kph. The certified range stands at 136km, but real-world tests yielded just under 100km. Once the battery drops to 10%, the scooter enters a limp mode, significantly limiting performance.
In City and Power modes, riders can expect a range of approximately 50km to 70km, respectively. While these figures are adequate for daily commutes, they fall short compared to similarly priced competitors with equivalent battery capacities.
The scooter's lightweight design and responsive handling make it adept at navigating through city traffic. Its suspension setup ensures comfort over uneven surfaces, enhancing the overall riding experience. However, the braking system, while decent, requires a firm pull and could benefit from better feedback.
Ampere Nexus ST Features and Safety
The Nexus is equipped with a bright and legible 7-inch TFT display, though it occasionally exhibits delayed responses and isn't glove-friendly. The LED headlight offers excellent illumination. However, the piano black switchgear, while premium in appearance, has tightly packed buttons that demand familiarity. The charging socket's placement near the footboard appears as an afterthought, and the charger design lacks the refinement seen in competitors.
Priced at ₹1.30 lakh (on-road, New Delhi), the Nexus ST offers a comfortable and practical urban commuting solution. Its ride quality and design are commendable, but areas like performance, range, and certain design elements need refinement. For those prioritising comfort and practicality, the Nexus ST is a worthy consideration, but buyers seeking a more polished experience might explore other options.
