Yamaha R2
The Yamaha R2 is an upcoming supersport bike that will be manufactured entirely in India and is expected to be the first Yamaha motorcycle to use the company's new high-revving single-cylinder engine. It is expected to have a displacement of around 200-220cc and will sit above the Yamaha R15 in the lineup, while carrying a similar sporty riding character.
The exact power output is yet to be revealed. However, the R2 is expected to compete with bikes such as the KTM RC 200 and Hero Karizma XMR, which produce around 25 hp. The Yamaha R2 is also expected to be lighter than these rivals, which could give it better agility and a higher power-to-weight ratio.
The Yamaha R2 will be launched on August 27, with pre-bookings open for Rs. 10,000.

Yamaha R2 FAQs
The upcoming Yamaha R2 can be pre-booked through the Yamaha e-shop by paying a refundable token amount of Rs 10,000. The amount will be adjusted against the final price after launch.
The Yamaha R2 is expected to rival the KTM RC 200 and Hero Karizma XMR in India.
The exact kerb weight of the Yamaha R2 is yet to be confirmed. For reference, the KTM RC 200 weighs 160kg, the Hero Karizma XMR weighs 163.5kg, while the Yamaha R15 V4 weighs 141kg. The R2 is expected to sit between these motorcycles in terms of weight.
The Yamaha R2 is expected to build on the R15 V4's feature list, which includes a TFT display, traction control and an upshift-only quickshifter. It is also expected to get a ride-by-wire throttle, which could enable riding modes and a bi-directional quickshifter.
The Yamaha R2 is being developed and manufactured in India to keep costs competitive, bridge the gap between the R15 and R3, and use India as a global export hub.
