We were the first to report that Yamaha was developing its own spin-off on the River Indie platform, and that product has seen the light of day today in the form of the EC-06. The EC-06 is based on the same foundation as the Indie but has some noteworthy differences.

  1. The EC-06 is mechanically very similar to the Indie
  2. But it has different styling and bodywork
  3. Its 24.5-litre boot is much smaller than the Indie’s

Yamaha EC-06: Battery, range and more details

The EC-06 is based on the same platform as the Indie but has numerous differences.

The EC-06 is powered by a 4kWh battery, which sends power to a motor rated for 6.7kW of peak power, capable of propelling it to a claimed 90kph top speed – specs that are identical to those of the Indie. The EC-06’s chassis is also very similar to that of the Indie, as is its feature set, which comprises a colour LCD, three riding modes and reverse assist.

Yamaha claims an IDC range of 160km on a single charge, but one full charge takes ‘approximately’ nine hours, which is one of the longest charging times in the quickly growing electric scooter industry. One noteworthy difference between the EC-06 and the Indie is that the former has a 24.5-litre underseat storage area compared to the latter’s cavernous 43-litre boot. The EC-06 also has very different styling, with a boxier and sharper design compared to the Indie’s more fluid, rounded looks.

Yamaha hasn’t yet revealed prices for the EC-06, but considering that it is related to the River rather closely, we expect it to be priced similarly to the Indie (Rs 1.46 lakh, ex-showroom, Bengaluru), or perhaps slightly more. While the EC-06 wears a Yamaha badge, it will be manufactured entirely at the River factory in Hoskote, Karnataka.
