Mahindra has not altered the basic looks of the XUV500 W4, which have always been a big part of its appeal for customers.

The most obvious external changes are the absence of the tough looking black body cladding on the bumpers and sills, as well as the blacked out door frames.

Like the W6, the W4 doesn't get alloy wheels. It will get wheel covers though. It's also front-wheel-drive only.

Mahindra has removed some equipment from the W6 to arrive at the W4, but it has kept a lot of the essentials in.

The intricate headlight clusters remain, with LED daytime running lights and projector lamps. The fog lamps are missing though.

The XUV500 W4 also gets a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat. In terms of safety, there's dual airbags, ABS with EBD and disc brakes all round.

The XUV 500 W4 is powered by the same 2.2-litre diesel engine that is good for 140bhp.

Also on offer are tilt-adjustable power steering, electric wing mirrors, and remote central locking. There is no automatic climate control, however.

The W4 gets a more basic infotainment system with four speakers and CD and aux inputs. The W6's larger display screen is gone now.

The chrome accents on the instrument cluster and elsewhere in the cabin are missing on the W4 as well.
