    SUVs with Panoramic sunroof

Sunroofs are now becoming commonplace in the Indian automotive market. The most affordable car with a sunroof in India right now is the newly launched Tata Altroz XM(S), priced at Rs 7.35 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). However, many customers are now opting for cars with the larger, panoramic sunroof as it lets in more light and adds a premium feel to the cabin. Here’s a list of the 10 most affordable SUVs with a panoramic sunroof on at least one trim.

    1) Hyundai Creta

    Price: Rs 13.96 lakh-19.20 lakh

The most affordable SUV on this list, the Hyundai Creta, gets a panoramic sunroof from the mid-spec S+ Knight edition trim onwards. It comes with a 115hp, 144Nm, 1.5-litre, petrol engine or a 116hp, 250Nm, 1.5-litre, diesel engine. While both get a 6-speed manual gearbox, the petrol is mated to a CVT and the diesel is paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The panoramic sunroof is sure to draw a lot of customers to the Creta. Its looks may not work for everyone, but its class-leading features like the panoramic sunroof and cooled seats make it a good value proposition.

    2) MG Astor

    Price: Rs 14.21 lakh-18.69 lakh

Like most SUVs on this list, MG offers the panoramic sunroof on the Astor from the mid-spec Smart trim onwards. The Astor gets a 110hp, 144Nm 1.5-litre, petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual or a CVT. The other powertrain on offer is a 140hp, 220Nm, 1.3-litre, turbo-petrol engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Along with the red interior, the panoramic sunroof accentuates the cabin’s premium quotient. The Astor exudes a premium car vibe thanks to its well-appointed cabin, high-quality materials and European car-like solid build.

    3) Kia Seltos

    Price: Rs 15.00 lakh-20.00 lakh

The latest SUV on this list is the recently facelifted Kia Seltos. While it gets a panoramic sunroof on the HTK+ trim, it is limited to just the turbo-petrol engine. However, from the HTX onwards, the Seltos facelift gets the panoramic sunroof as standard across all variants. The panoramic sunroof helps enhance the sense of space in the Seltos. It comes with a 115hp, 144Nm, 1.5-litre, petrol engine, a 116hp, 250Nm, 1.5-litre diesel engine and a 160hp, 253Nm, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. Gearbox options available include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed iMT, a CVT, a 6-speed automatic and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. Overall, the Seltos is a hard product to fault and the updates make it feel like a more premium, well-rounded package than before. Read our review of the Seltos facelift here.

    4) Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

    Price: Rs 15.41 lakh-19.83 lakh

Maruti Suzuki’s foray into the midsize SUV segment with the Grand Vitara also marks the first time the manufacturer has used a panoramic sunroof. It is available on the Alpha petrol trim and on both trims of the strong-hybrid powertrain. The massive sunroof floods the cabin with light and what’s neat is that both glass panels slide back. The Grand Vitara gets a 103hp, 137Nm, 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. It also gets a 116hp, 1.5-litre hybrid powertrain coupled with an e-CVT. The strong-hybrid Grand Vitara gets plenty of new-age tech, fantastic real-world fuel efficiency and some real green credentials.

    5) Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder

    Price: Rs 16.04 lakh-19.99 lakh

Much like the Grand Vitara, the Toyota Hyryder also gets the panoramic sunroof on the top-spec V trim with the petrol engine, and on the G and V trims of the strong-hybrid powertrain. The Hyryder’s black and brown interior looks appealing and the panoramic sunroof takes its premium quotient up a notch. Like the Maruti, it also gets a 103hp, 137Nm, 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic as well as the 116hp, 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid with an e-CVT gearbox. Besides looking thoroughly modern and exuding a rugged appeal, the Hyryder gets the basics right with a well-judged ride and handling balance.

    6) Hyundai Alcazar

    Price: Rs 16.78 lakh-21.13 lakh

The Alcazar is the only SUV in this list to offer a panoramic sunroof as standard across the range. The Alcazar recently got Hyundai’s new 160hp, 253Nm, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that replaced the older 2.0-litre petrol engine. This new engine, which does duty in many Hyundai and Kia models is paired to a 6-speed manual or a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Hyundai also offers a 116hp, 250Nm, 1.5-litre diesel engine with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. When compared to other three-row SUVs in the segment, the Alcazar is more user-friendly and easier to drive owing to its smaller dimensions. It also offers good value for money since it’s feature-rich.

    7) MG Hector

    Price: Rs 17.16 lakh-22.97 lakh

Just like the Astor, the Hector and Hector Plus get a panoramic sunroof from the mid-spec Smart trim, with the sunroof elevating the cabin’s airy feel. Both SUVs get a choice of either a 143hp, 250Nm, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine or a 170hp, 350Nm, 2.0-litre diesel engine. While both get a 6-speed manual gearbox, the petrol also gets a CVT. It is a spacious and comfortable SUV, and feels more premium now with more gizmos.

    8) Mahindra XUV700

    Price: Rs 17.82 lakh-26.18 lakh

The XUV700 is an SUV with many firsts for Mahindra: it was the first to bear the brand’s new ‘Twin Peaks’ logo, the first to get ADAS and the first to feature a panoramic sunroof. Speaking of which, the XUV700 gets it on the AX5 and AX7 trims, and its thick frame eats a bit into the headroom for second-row passengers. The XUV700 is powered by a 200hp, 380Nm, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 185hp, 420Nm (450Nm with the automatic), 2.0-litre diesel engine. Both are mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

    9) Tata Harrier

    Price: Rs 17.90 lakh - 24.27 lakh

The Harrier is the first Tata Motors’ product to feature a panoramic sunroof, which does well to lift the cabin’s premium quotient by a few notches. It gets the large sunroof from the XM(S) trim onwards, and is powered a 2.0-litre diesel engine capable of 170hp and 350Nm of torque mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The Harrier is a strong package, has great space and comfort, a plush interior, a good ride and striking looks.

    10) Tata Safari

    Price: Rs 18.66 lakh-25.22 lakh

Much like the Harrier, the Safari also gets the panoramic sunroof from the XM(S) trim onwards. The Safari is also powered by a 170hp, 350Nm, 2.0-litre diesel engine paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The new Safari is attractive, plush and well-equipped, and with a genuinely useable third row it makes a compelling case for itself.
