•1dI’m looking to buy my first car. Usage is 90% city and 10% highway. Budget under ₹5 lakh.

Autocar India
Go for the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 VXi (O) MT as it fits your requirements. At roughly 3.5 m long with a tight turning radius, it will be ideal for driving in congested city traffic and will fit into small parking spots. As a first-time buyer, you’ll appreciate the light steering and clutch in stop‑and-go traffic and being a Maruti car, you'll also appreciate the stress-free ownership experience it comes with. The one thing you give up is high‑speed composure. Above about 90kph, it feels light and gets noisy, so highway stints are best kept calm and brief. If you prioritise stronger crash safety or expect more highway runs later, consider a well‑kept pre‑owned 2021-22 Tata Tiago XZ instead. It scored 4‑star adult protection in NCAP tests.

•1wHi Autocar, I need your valuable opinion on purchasing a new car. My priorities are: safety, a comfortable ride (50% on highways and city roads and 50% on village roads), and a budget of around ₹5-6 lakh. Fuel efficiency is also important, as my daily run is 100 km.

Autocar India
For your requirement of safety, comfort on mixed roads and very high daily running of 100 km, we would suggest going for the Tata Tiago iCNG.The Tiago is a good fit because it offers a comfortable ride over bad village roads, along with a stable feel on highways. It is also a safe and well-built car for its price, which aligns with your priority.More importantly, with your kind of usage, running cost becomes critical, and this is where the CNG version makes a big difference. Compared to petrol, CNG will be significantly more economical, which will save you a lot of money over time, given your daily 100 km usage. In your budget, you can go for the base XE variant.

•2wPlease suggest a good new automatic car within a ₹8 lakh budget.

Autocar India
Without knowing your exact requirements, it will be hard to suggest any one option as there are plenty of models available across body styles within a budget of Rs 8 lakh. Your Rs 8 lakh cap rules out most CVT or torque converter automatic options, and you'll have to go for an AMT.If you want a small hatchback for the city, pick the Tata Tiago AMT, which comes with a solid build, a decent features list and a 4-star safety rating. If you prefer a sedan, go for the Maruti Suzuki Dzire AMT, which stands out for its relatively spacious cabin, comfy ride quality and a 5-star crash safety rating. However, if you prefer an SUV bodystyle, consider the Hyundai Exter AMT, which comes with a smooth 1.2-litre engine and a lengthy features list. Do note, you'll have to settle for the entry-level automatic variants of the latter two, given your budget.

•3wI am planning to buy a new car under ₹7 lakh. I am looking for a car with smooth engine performance and enhanced safety features.

Autocar India
We would recommend you look at the Maruti Suzuki Celerio. Refinement from the 1.0 litre engine is much better than you would expect from a three-cylinder engine, and minimal vibrations filter into the cabin. The overall performance is smooth and easy for normal everyday driving, and at low city speeds, it even feels a bit eager, and it is thus quite enjoyable to drive. In terms of safety, the car is well equipped with safety features like 6 airbags, anti-locking brakes (ABS) and electronic stability program (ESP). It also scored a three-star crash safety rating in the GNCAP test. You can get cars with a better crash rating, like the Tata Tiago, for instance, but you will not find the engine as smooth.

•5wI am a senior citizen looking to purchase a new car with an automatic gearbox and within a budget of around Rs 7 lakh. It should be best suited for city driving and occasional highway trips to nearby cities. High safety features are a must.

Autocar India
With a budget of Rs 7 lakh, you won't have much choice for a safe, automatic car. The closest option is the Tata Tiago in its XT spec. The Tiago is rated 4-stars in GNCAP crash tests, which is a high score and show merit in its safety. The AMT gearbox adds convenience, and while it won't be smooth, it will definitely take the toll off, in city traffic. The Tiago is also very comfortable in the city and stable on the highway for short inter-city commutes. The petrol engine is smooth and has good performance for relaxed driving. What you will appreciate more is the comfort and the seating. We would recommend the Tiago XT AMT for your given requirements.

•7wTiago or Alto? How should I choose my second budget car at the age of 67?

Autocar India
If you are looking for a small car that has light and easy controls, the Maruti Suzuki Alto is a good option. It is easy to drive, has a peppy and very fuel-efficient engine. The Alto is also very reliable, and being a Maruti car, it also benefits from a strong service network. The Tata Tiago, on the other hand, is a better option if you want a more spacious car with better interior comfort and a good ride quality. The Tiago is also very safe and has a 4-star Global NCAP rating. Thus, the choice really comes down to what you want from your new car.

•10wHi team, I am planning to buy a new car and the Wagon R CNG is on my mind. Because of travelling for the job and personal work, I am focused on mileage. The Wagon R CNG also fits my budget of ₹6.5 lakh, and I do not wish to spend more, although I can stretch my budget to ₹8 lakh. However, my family does not like the Wagon R CNG and wants me to consider the Fronx or other options. Kindly suggest.

Autocar India
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R CNG is a practical choice. However, if your family wants a different car, you can consider the Tata Tiago CNG XT MT. It will cost less than 8 lakhs on road and will still give you the benefit of CNG, and offers more equipment than the Wagon R. Fronx is not recommended, as in the budget, you will have to pick the base variant. It will not have many of the features which add to the convenience. Another, more practical option is to explore the second-hand market. This opens up access to a wider range of cars within your budget. With online platforms like Spinny, etc., the pre-owned buying process is now pretty transparent than earlier.

•10wI want to buy a low-budget car for the first time in my life. I am confused between the Tata Tiago XT and the Maruti Swift Dzire VXI. My priority is low maintenance and long life. My average daily run is 20 to 30 km. Please suggest.

Autocar India
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire is an excellent, comfortable car that's more spacious than the Tata Tiago, and has a larger boot too. Its engine is smoother, more refined, and more fuel-efficient, and being a Maruti car, your after-sales experience is also likely to be relatively fuss-free.As your first car, go for the Dzire. Its overall user-friendliness and its more premium experience will make you feel like you've spent your money well.

•10wSir, I am planning to buy a new automatic car for my sister. The priorities are budget-friendliness, safety, good mileage, and ease of driving, as she is a new driver. The budget is ₹7 to 7.5 lakh. I am considering the Tata Tiago, but am open to other suggestions. Please advise.

Autocar India
Given that your sister is a new driver, we'd recommend a car with an elevated seating position that would give greater visibility. While the Tata Tiago is good, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis is a better option for your sister. This Maruti car has a superior engine and smoother AMT gearbox than the Tiago, and is generally better to drive. You should try to get the Ignis 1.2 AMT Zeta, which, with some bargaining, will fit within your budget.

•11wPlease suggest a good CNG car with an AMT automatic gearbox within a budget of Rs 15 to 17 lakh, along with reasonable fuel efficiency.

Autocar India
Since you want a CNG-AMT car, your options are limited. Currently, only three models in our market come with a CNG-AMT automatic powertrain - the Tata Tiago hatchback, the Tata Tigor compact sedan and the Nissan Magnite compact SUV. All fall within your budget, so choose depending on which body style you prefer. The Tata Tiago CNG AMT price starts at Rs 7.23 lakh and goes up to Rs 8.10 lakh, while the Tigor CNG AMT is priced from Rs 8.19 lakh up to Rs 8.74 lakh. Nissan Magnite CNG AMT prices range from Rs 6.89 lakh to Rs 9.70 lakh (ex-showroom).
