Hi, we are confused between two cars: the Tata Sierra Pure Plus Diesel, which costs us around Rs. 19 lakh on-road, and the Nissan Teckton N-Connecta 1.3 or 1.0. We haven't decided on the Nissan variant yet. Our driving is mostly on highways, but not on a daily basis. We usually go on long trips once every three months. Overall, you can consider our driving pattern to be 60% highway and 40% city. Please tell us which would be the better option.

Go for the Tata Sierra Pure Plus diesel. With your usage pattern of 60 percent highway and long trips every few months, the Sierra diesel is the more sensible choice. The diesel engine will deliver better fuel efficiency on highways, and the Sierra’s strong torque makes long-distance cruising effortless. It is also a spacious and comfortable SUV, which is important for family road trips. The Nissan Tekton is a good car, but the 1.3 turbo petrol is not as efficient on highways, and the 1.0 turbo petrol is not as refined or relaxed for long-distance driving. The Sierra diesel strikes the right balance between efficiency.

I’m planning to buy an EV with a budget of Rs. 19 - 20 lakh. My heart says the Tata Sierra EV Pure 63, but my mind says the Kia Syros top variant because of features like ventilated seats. Kindly suggest which one would be the better choice.

The choice really comes down to your usage and what you value in the car. If you need more space for both passengers and luggage and have a few long drives that you would undertake, then opt for the Tata Sierra. It is a much larger car and has a very spacious interior. The ride quality is also very good over both bad city roads as well as high highway speeds. If, however, your usage is mainly going to be within the city, then the Kia Syros is the better buy. Its compact footprint will be much easier to manage while driving congested streets, and finding parking would be easier. You would also enjoy the top variant and its features.

Hi, I want to buy a car with a budget of Rs 10 lakh. Please suggest a car. I am confused between the Sierra and the Tata Curvv.

The Tata Sierra is priced well above Rs 10 lakh, so sadly it is not a realistic option within your budget. You will also have to stretch your budget by a couple of lakhs to get an entry-level Tata Curvv. If you're on a tight budget, consider the Tata Nexon instead.

What is the real-world mileage of the Tata Sierra NA engine? Is it a good choice? I am okay with its linear power delivery because I am used to it. I want a safe family car, decent mileage, and good road presence. I am confused between the Smart Plus Sierra and Kia Seltos HTK.

The Tata Sierra 1.5 NA is quite a heavy car and, despite being tuned for efficiency, that weight does affect fuel consumption. In real-world conditions, you can expect Sierra mileage to fall between 7 and 9 kpl in the city and about 12 and 14 kpl on the highway, depending on how and where you drive. The bigger issue is performance. The 1.5 NA engine feels very sluggish, and you will need to work the engine and gearbox hard, especially when overtaking or when you need a quick burst of speed in traffic.Where this Tata car scores strongly is in road presence, safety, and overall family appeal. It feels solid, has a commanding stance, and is well suited for comfortable, relaxed driving. The Kia Seltos HTK, on the other hand, is the easier car to live with day to day. Its 1.5 NA engine feels noticeably far more responsive and lighter on its feet, and it is also more fuel-efficient in real-world use.So, if your priority is a safe, solid family car with strong road presence and you’re okay with the poor performance and lower mileage, the Sierra works. But if you want better drivability, efficiency, and a more effortless experience behind the wheel, the Seltos is the more rounded choice.

I own a 2022 Hyundai Venue Diesel (base model), and I'm planning to upgrade to a new car. I'm looking for a vehicle that is more comfortable, more spacious, and offers good fuel efficiency. My monthly driving is around 700-800 km, with most of it in the city and only occasional highway trips.

Given your requirements, the Tata Sierra Turbo is a good option to consider, but it may not be the best fit for your usage pattern. Your monthly running of 700-800 km, mostly in the city with only occasional highway trips, means fuel efficiency and ease of driving are more important than outright performance. The Sierra Turbo is a spacious and comfortable SUV with a modern design and a premium feel, but its turbo petrol engine is more performance-oriented and may not deliver the best fuel efficiency in city conditions.A better fit for your needs would be the Kia Seltos with the 1.5 litre petrol engine and the CVT automatic gearbox. The powertrain is smooth and easy to drive and perfect of cities and even on the highway the performance and overtaking ability is adequate. With the new generation Seltos, Kia have improved cabin space - especially at the rear - and the ride quality too. These are not class best but good enough and something you should be happy with. Being a Kia reliability is also good and the service network is quite wide spread.
