Tata Motors is ramping up the production of the Sierra SUV after bookings crossed the 1,00,000-unit mark, reflecting strong demand for the revived nameplate.

Deliveries of the Sierra began in mid-January, and the company has already despatched and delivered more than 14,000 units as of February 2026, according to a company spokesperson. The automaker said production is being steadily increased as it works across its manufacturing operations and supplier network to address the growing order backlog and reduce waiting periods for customers.

Tata Motors said production is being progressively increased to meet demand for the Sierra. The company noted that its teams are working closely with manufacturing units and suppliers to raise output while maintaining quality standards.

According to the company, the ramp-up will help reduce waiting periods between booking and delivery, with customers expected to receive updates on delivery timelines as production scales up.

However, Tata Motors has not disclosed specific production numbers or capacity targets for the model.

Expected production scale-up

Monthly output could reach around 15,000 units.

Industry sources indicate that Tata Motors is aiming to increase Sierra production to around 15,000 units per month by the second quarter, once manufacturing operations and supply chains stabilise. Of this, around 12,000 units are expected to come from the internal combustion engine (ICE) version.

The Sierra EV, internally codenamed 'Rowa', is expected to add additional volumes once production begins. Manufacturing of the electric version is likely to start within a quarter of the ICE model’s ramp-up.

Supporting Tata Motors’ sales momentum

Sierra volumes could support sustained output levels.

The Sierra production ramp-up comes as Tata Motors recently reported its highest-ever monthly passenger vehicle sales of over 70,000 units.

Industry sources say additional volumes from the Sierra, along with the recently refreshed Punch, could help the company sustain output of around 70,000 units a month if external conditions remain stable.

With the Sierra added to its SUV portfolio, Tata Motors is also expected to intensify competition with Mahindra for the second position in the Indian passenger vehicle market this year, according to industry estimates.
