My daily travel is around 50 km, and I want to buy a used EV within a budget of 10 lakhs. Please suggest the vehicle.

The Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet would fit within your budget, and if you are strict about this, we would recommend you consider these.
Between the two, the MG Comet is better for short intra-city runs, but it comes across more as a runabout rather than a full-fledged car, and that's where the Tiago EV would be better.
However, if you can up your budget slightly, the Tata Punch EV would be the best option. It's compact for the city, rides very well and feels very modern.

I want to change/upgrade to an automatic petrol car that is easy to drive. I will be using it mostly for local shopping, etc. My budget is between 8-9 lakhs, and I am open to EVs.

Since you are open to an EV, we would suggest you look at the Tata Punch EV. It is a little above your budget, but you will get a car that is easy to drive for your local shopping trips and being an electric car will be the smoothest automatics you can find.
The trouble is, below Rs 10 lakh most automatics are automated manuals (AMT) which are not smooth shifters, and you can feel the shifts as they happen. If you must stick with your 9 lakh budget, have a look at the new Maruti Suzuki Swift, its light controls make it easy to drive, especially in the city and the car rides well too.

Hello, Autocar. As a car fan, I’ve been a reader for quite some time. I want to buy a new car for my parents, who are first-time drivers, so an automatic is a must. I want a hatchback that is easy to drive and low on maintenance. Most of the driving will be on the highway or from the village to the nearby town. I’ve shortlisted the new Suzuki Swift ZXI AMT. Please share your opinion. Is there any other option you would suggest, if not the Swift?

The Maruti Suzuki Swift that you have shortlisted is a decent option for your parents. The controls are light and easy to operate, and the engine is tuned for efficiency rather than performance. Thus, your parents, who are first-time drivers, would find this a good car to use.
The only issue is the AMT gearbox, which is not a smooth shifter. Take a test drive and see how they feel about this. If you are open to an electric car, you can opt for the Tata Punch EV. It would offer a smooth and easy drive, and the high seating point would offer good visibility.

My daily running is 300 km. I want to know if shifting to an EV is a good idea or if I should continue with an ICE vehicle.

You have a very high daily running, thus, going purely by running cost, shifting to an EV would make sense. However, you would have to ensure you get a model that offers a good range. Cars like the MG Comet and the Tata Punch EV would not provide you with a comfortable enough driving range for your daily running.
You would have to look at the Tata Nexon EV, which would just about suffice. Thus, you would have to spend more to ensure you have a model with a range sufficient to ensure you do not have to stop to charge in the middle of the day.
So if your budget does not permit, stick with an ICE car and look for something efficient like the Maruti Suzuki Swift or look for a CNG car if pumps are available in your area.

I am planning to upgrade from the Grand i10 to a more fuel-efficient and comfortable car. I am confused between the Maruti Fronx and the Tata Punch EV. My budget is below Rs 10 lakh. Usage is mainly in the city, with occasional long drives of around 500 km one way.

The Tata Punch EV is an excellent choice for intra-city drives. However, for the occasional, 500km long drives, choosing an EV is a challenge and will require careful planning on your part, particularly due to limited charging infrastructure. Solely for that reason, it is better to pick the Maruti Suzuki Fronx.

I currently own a Tata Tigor AMT, but I’m unhappy with the AMT’s performance and the cabin feels too cramped for my 6 ft height. I want to upgrade with a budget of around ₹10 lakh. I’m considering a used Hyundai Creta (automatic), but I’m worried about petrol issues due to ethanol blending. Should I instead buy a new EV such as the Windsor EV or Tata Nexon EV? My driving is mainly in the city (Mumbai), about 500 km/month. Which option suits me best?

Since your running is 500km a month and within city limits, an EV makes sense for you. However, given your budget is around Rs 10 lakh, both the MG Windsor EV and Tata Nexon EV are more expensive than that. Alternatively, you should consider the Tata Punch EV

The ARAI claimed Tata Punch EV range is 265 km for the smaller 25 kWh battery pack version and 365 km for the larger 35 kWh long range (LR) version, with a real-world LR range of around 229 km. Power and torque outputs are 82hp and 114 Nm for Standard and 122 hp and 190 Nm for Long Range. The Punch EV is ideal for urban users who want a compact, well-equipped EV with solid performance and comfort. Tata Punch EV prices start at Rs 9.99 lakh and go up to Rs 14.44 lakh (ex-showroom).

I need a compact city car - automatic, petrol or electric. I checked the Comet but found it overpriced and the seats uncomfortable. My budget is under ₹10 lakh, though I can stretch slightly. Which models should I consider?

If you are open to buying an electric vehicle, the Tata Tiago EV is a good option for city use. It's got a smooth powertrain and is much more practical than the MG Comet you also considered. There's also the option of the Tata Punch EV, though it is slightly out of your budget. 

Among petrol automatic cars within your budget, the Hyundai i20 iVT and Citroen C3 AT have the smoothest automatic gearboxes. The Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT is also a good city car, though the AMT gearbox isn't as nice.

Want a second EV for daily solo city driving (≈700 km/month) with a ₹10 lakh budget. Please recommend models.

The Tata Punch EV is a really well-rounded vehicle, and makes for a great EV runabout. However, if you are open to its unconventional styling and two-door layout, the MG Comet is an excellent secondary vehicle on account of its compact dimensions. It is very easy to drive and park, and it is one of those cars which you will truly appreciate for its merits as you begin to live with it.

I’m looking for a car for my wife, who is turning 30. Her daily usage will be short city drives, about 8 km to and from the gym, along with grocery runs and mall visits. Our budget is ₹15 lakh, and we already own an i20 and an XUV700. Is the Thar 3-door RWD a good option for her, or would something more practical and fuel-efficient be better?

Considering her use is mostly in the city, the Mahindra Thar 3 Door is not a great idea as it's too large and bulky. It is best suited to the off-road track, or at least if you travel out for weekend picnics or getaways often.
Consider a compact SUV like the Skoda Kylaq, the Kia Sonet, or the Hyundai Venue, as they are the right size, but also practical and feature-loaded enough, with efficient engines. Given the limited usage and considering you have two other cars, you could also consider a compact electric car like the Tata Punch EV.

Currently I own a Taigun (2024 model) and a WagonR AMT (2016 model). I want to replace the WagonR with a new car for my daily office commute (12 km each way in normal traffic). My budget is ₹10 lakh and I’m looking for a diesel automatic (not AMT). Any suggestions?

There is nothing currently available given your requirements of a non-AMT diesel under Rs 10 lakh. The next closest would be the Kia Sonet diesel, which comes with a torque converter automatic but will be around the Rs 15 lakh mark (on-road). Since you seem to want a very smooth city commuter and are concerned about running costs, you could consider going electric. If you have the option to charge a car, an electric would do well in terms of offering you a smooth drive experience and with a low running cost. The Tata Punch EV would fit your requirements and come in at the Rs 10 lakh mark.
