Altroz Diesel or Kia Sonet?

Tata Altroz price in Guna
On-road in Guna, the base model Smart 1.2 Petrol MT starts at 6.76 lakh and the top model Accomplished + S 1.2 Petrol DCT reaches 12.26 lakh. The Creative S 1.2 Petrol AT sits between the two at 10.15 lakh.
If you are financing the car, a loan of 6,10,000 on the base model Smart 1.2 Petrol MT means an EMI of 9,814 a month. Stepping up to the top model Accomplished + S 1.2 Petrol DCT raises that to 17,698 on a loan of 11,00,000.
Why prices change from the base model to the top model:
Three fuel options are offered, and the diesel and CNG are priced differently from the petrol before equipment is counted.
Both the base model Smart 1.2 Petrol MT and the top model Accomplished + S 1.2 Petrol DCT are petrol, so the range starts and finishes on the same fuel.
Three gearboxes are offered, and the dual-clutch automatic comes only with the petrol engine.
The 10.25-inch touchscreen and the matching digital driver's display arrive part way up the range.
The sunroof, the 360-degree camera and wireless charging are reserved for the higher variants.
Registration, road tax and insurance are added to the ex-showroom figure, and how much they add depends on the state you buy in. That is why the same variant costs more in one city than another.

The Tata Altroz price starts at Rs 6.00 lakh and climbs to Rs 10.75 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it on the higher side of the premium hatchback segment.
The base variant of the Altroz is Rs 1.07 lakh cheaper than that of the Nexon. Comparing top variants (excluding cosmetic packages), the Altroz is Rs 3.25 lakh cheaper than the Nexon.
Comparing base variants, the Altroz is more expensive than the Tiago by Rs 1.6 lakh. In terms of top variant pricing, the Tiago is cheaper by Rs 2.22 lakh.
If smooth and seamless gear shifts across speeds, even when staring off on steep inclines, is something you prioritise, then spending the extra Rs 60,000 over the AMT would be worth it.
Hello, I am looking to buy my first car and am leaning towards the Tata Altroz DCA. I will mainly use it for city commutes in Bengaluru, with occasional drives of around 500km a month. Safety is a priority, and I also like the low step-in height and 90-degree-opening rear doors, especially for my elderly parents. Would you recommend the Altroz DCA for my needs, or should I consider other options?
The Tata Altroz DCA is a good fit for your needs, particularly because safety, easy ingress and egress for your elderly parents, and city driving are priorities. Its 90-degree opening rear doors and low step-in height make getting in and out easier, while its compact dimensions suit Bengaluru traffic. The DCA automatic is convenient for daily commuting, though the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine isn't the most refined, and the gearbox can feel hesitant and isn't particularly quick with shifts. The Hyundai i20 IVT is worth a test drive as well. Its engine is smoother, and its CVT automatic is more fluid in stop-start traffic, making it the more relaxed option to drive. However, the Altroz's wide-opening rear doors may make it easier for your parents to get in and out, so the Hyundai isn't automatically the better family car.Shortlist both, but lean towards the Altroz if your parents' comfort and ease of access are decisive. Take them along for a test drive and check how easily they can get in and out of both cars before booking.
I am planning to upgrade from my Hyundai i10. My daily commute is around 40 km in Chennai city, and I drive approximately 600 km on the highway once a month. I am considering the Tata Altroz diesel, with a budget of around Rs. 11 lakh. I am looking for a reliable diesel car with good mileage and low maintenance costs. I prefer a practical car without unnecessary fancy features. Please suggest the best options for my usage.
Given your usage pattern of 40 km daily city driving and a 600 km highway run every month, diesel does make sense, and the Tata Altroz diesel is a solid choice. It offers good fuel efficiency, a comfortable ride and a well-built cabin, and it is one of the few diesel hatchbacks still available in the market. The Altroz diesel remains a sensible option, but do keep in mind that Tata's service experience can be inconsistent depending on the dealership. If you are open to stretching your budget slightly, the Mahindra XUV 3XO diesel is worth considering. It offers a more powerful diesel engine, better highway performance and a more robust ownership experience. If you are strictly sticking to the Rs 11 lakh budget, the Altroz diesel is the best fit for your requirements. It is practical, efficient and well-suited to your usage pattern. Just make sure you are comfortable with your local Tata service centre before making the final decision.
Hi team, I am planning to buy the Tata Altroz diesel, but I am confused between the Altroz and the Kia Sonet. Given that both options fall into different segments, I am unsure whether I should go for the Altroz or consider a sub-4-metre SUV like the Sonet. Could you please help me understand which would be the better choice? Thanks in advance.
Go for the Tata Altroz diesel. Your daily running of 30km and a mix of city and highway driving make diesel a sensible choice, and the Altroz is a genuinely strong package. The diesel engine is efficient, punchy and well suited to both city commutes and highway runs, while the Altroz itself is spacious, comfortable and has a proven safety record. It is also significantly more affordable than the Sonet, allowing you to opt for a higher variant with more features within the same budget. The Altroz diesel offers a better balance of efficiency, performance and ownership cost. The only caveat is that the Altroz diesel is available only with a manual gearbox, so if you specifically want an automatic, the Kia Sonet diesel automatic would be the better choice. Otherwise, the Altroz diesel is the smarter buy.
My city commute is in Pune or Hyderabad, with around 250 km of city driving and 800-1,000 km of highway driving per month. I have shortlisted the Tata Nexon CNG, Punch CNG, and Altroz diesel, but I’m not sure which one to choose. I am concerned about fuel economy, but I’m worried that I might face difficulties if CNG is not available. That is why I considered diesel, although I’m also unsure about its future. I enjoy driving, just FYI. Please let me know which car would be a better choice for my needs.
Go for the Tata Altroz diesel. Your running is high enough to justify a diesel, and the Altroz diesel is one of the few genuinely efficient and enjoyable small diesels left on the market. This Tata car delivers strong fuel economy on the highway, has a punchy mid-range for overtaking, and is genuinely enjoyable to drive on open roads. Diesel availability is not a concern, and with your kind of running, the fuel savings will add up quickly.CNG makes sense only if you have reliable access to filling stations along your regular routes. If you are already worried about availability, it is not worth the compromise. The Nexon and Punch CNG are both good cars, but the inconvenience of planning refuelling stops will quickly outweigh the savings. The Altroz diesel is also a well-rounded car with a comfortable ride, good safety credentials and a solid ownership experience. It is the most sensible and enjoyable choice for your usage pattern.
Hello Autocar Team, I need your unbiased expert opinion before buying a new car. I am confused between Tata Altroz Pure CNG AMT quoted for Rs. 9.41 lakh (on-road price) and Tata Altroz Creative CNG Manual of which I am waiting for the final quotation. My budget is Rs. 10.5 lakh. I have been driving manual cars for the last 10 years, and my running is mostly in the Mumbai city traffic and production-location travel. I want a CNG car with good features, safety, comfort and long-term value for money. I am considering spending around Rs. 50,000 extra on the automatic gearbox versus choosing the Creative manual for its additional factory-fitted features. Which variant would you recommend for my usage, and why? I would really appreciate your honest advice before finalising the purchase. Thank you.
Go for the Pure CNG AMT. In Mumbai traffic the automatic is the upgrade you’ll appreciate every single day, whereas extra features soon fade into the background. After 10 years of working a clutch in stop-go traffic, you’ll notice the difference within a week. On paper the Creative manual and the Pure AMT cost about the same, so you’re really choosing between convenience and kit, and for your driving convenience wins. There are two things to know before you go ahead. First, an AMT isn’t as smooth as a proper automatic. It pauses slightly between gears, so we would suggest you to take a test drive of Altroz AMT in traffic before you book. Second, the Pure misses out on rear AC vents, which the Creative gets. If you often carry people in the back in Mumbai’s heat, that’s worth weighing up.Both share the same 5-star Bharat NCAP-rated body and the twin-cylinder CNG setup, so you still get a usable boot. On long trips, expect the CNG to feel a bit strained at expressway speeds. That’s the same whichever variant you buy.
