I want to buy a mid-size SUV for city and highway driving to replace my 2105 Corolla Altis. I do not want a very bulky vehicle. I am considering between the new Kushaq and the Seltos. What is your advice?
Between the two we would suggest going for the Kia Seltos as per your requiremnt, For city driving it is easy to recommend the 1.5 litre CVT as the naturally aspirated engine is refined has smooth power delivery and the CVT gearbox's smooth nature is perfect for you daily commutes and despite being one of the largest cars in the segment, it reamisn a car that is easy to drive and park.
The new Seltos is spacious, comfortable and has a big boot too. It is also loaded with features and boast of one of the most premium interiors in the segment.
We still haven't driven the Skoda Kushaq facelift, but it remains mechanically almost identical, except the 1.0 litre turbo petrol engine will get a new 8-speed automatic gearbox, and that is something that we are keen to try and to see if that makes a whole lot of difference. So stay tuned for the Autocar India review.

Hi, I would like to replace my 2015 Ford Figo diesel with a new car. I quite like the new ล koda Kushaq and want to buy the 1.0-litre automatic. My primary usage will be around the city, with 3-4 highway runs in a month. Should I go for it or wait for the VW Taigun facelift? With these turbo engines, will the fuel efficiency take a hit? Please advise.
The Skoda Kushaq is a good choice for your requirements. The 115hp, 1.0-litre TSI engine is peppy, the cabin is comfortable, and the build quality is good too. Coming from your Ford Figo, you will also enjoy the driving experience. As for fuel efficiency, yes, the turbo-petrol engine will be less efficient than your current diesel. In our efficiency tests, the Kushaq 1.0 TSI with the 6-speed AT delivered just 8.5kpl in the city and 12.4kpl out on the highway. However, the updated Kushaq comes with an 8-speed gearbox, so expect slightly better efficiency.
As for the Volkswagen Taigun facelift, it will essentially be the same car as the Kushaq. So there won't be much difference in terms of performance, efficiency or comfort. The notable differences will be in the exterior styling and certain features.
So it only makes sense to wait for the facelift if you really like the look of the Taigun better than the Kushaq.

Hi, I am using a Duster 110 RXZ and now want to sell it and buy a new SUV. What would you suggest, a petrol or a diesel SUV? My monthly run is around 1,000 km, and I have already driven 85,000 km in 8 years. My budget is around Rs 20 lakh, and I need a good, tough SUV that can be used for very long drives.
Since your monthly running is not very high, you can opt for a petrol SUV. In the Rs 20 lakh budget, you can consider the Tata Sierra, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Skoda Kushaq, to name a few. All three are good options and will serve you well.
The Hyundai Creta and Seltos are mechanically identical, while the Kushaq and Taigun share a lot between them. To be fair, it comes down to the design and features you prefer.
The Renault Duster is also a great option to consider, and while prices are not out yet, it is likely to be in the same range as the above-mentioned SUVs. However, our recommendation will be to wait for the new upcoming Duster.
Since you already have the older version and have a good experience with it, the new one will be worth waiting for. It has modern looks, a premium cabin and lots of features, making it a strong contender in this segment.

I am 60 years old, I am holding a Ford EcoSport now want a similar replacement. My budget is 20 lakh. Please advise.
While Ford has sadly exited the Indian market, leaving behind no direct successor to the EcoSport, there are some spiritual successors from other brands that you could look at. The closest in feel and philosophy is the Skoda Kushaq, which has just been given a facelift that will officially go on sale next month.
Like the EcoSport, you get a solid and robust feel, whether it is in aspects like door shut, steering weight, high-speed stability and even interior build quality. The latest version gets more modern features, in case that's what you are after; the only downside is that it's not the most spacious SUV in its category.
The biggest similarity between the Kushaq and the EcoSport, however, is how great they both are from behind the wheel. They are comfortable while being sharp to drive, and have strong engines that are a joy whether you're going slow or quickly. We think this is the SUV you should consider.

My query is about choosing between the Tata Sierra, Renault Duster, the new Kia Seltos, and the Skoda Kushaq. My budget is โน20 lakh. Please guide me.
The Renault Duster will launch in March, and prices for the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine will be revealed then. From what we know, the Duster has a strong road presence thanks to its bold and aggressive design and tough demeanour. We are yet to see how it performs out on the road, so we will reserve our comments till that happens.
The Tata Sierra is a strong package with lots of character in its design and styling and a strong set of features. What also helps its case is the wide array of variants on offer with multiple powertrain options. Its strengths remain its design, space and ride comfort. If you care for these three, the Sierra is the one to go for.
The Skoda Kushaq was recently updated, and it gets new features like massage seats at the rear. However, it still remains a car for driving enthusiasts, especially with the 1.5-litre TSI engine. If you enjoy getting behind the wheel and prefer the driver's seat, the Kushaq would be a very good option. However, what it gains in handling, it loses in ride, and it just isn't as plush as the Sierra. It also misses the character and road presence of the Tata.
The Kia Seltos is a massive improvement from what it was before and is loaded with features. It also gets a host of engine and gearbox options, and the only real deterrent is its aggressive styling. If you don't mind that, the Seltos is a top choice in the segment.

I am planning to buy a new car with an automatic transmission in Kolkata. My budget is within 17-18 lakhs. I have shortlisted the new Skoda Kushaq 1.0 TSI facelift and the Hyundai CRETA IVT. Please suggest or advise which car I should go with. Or is there any other car do you suggest me?
The choice between the two comes down to what you would like in your new car. The Skoda Kushaq's 1.0 TSI engine is peppy enough, and the ride and handling balance is good. It's the one to opt for if a fun-to-drive character and safety are your priorities.
The Hyundai Creta, on the other hand, is more of an all-rounder and the better of the two when it comes to interior space. The 1.5-litre petrol engine is smooth, the ride quality is good, and the drive character is more laidback and relaxed. Thus, pick this one if it's just a no-nonsense family car that you are looking for.

Between the three cars, if you are looking for a car for city commutes and considering your budget, we would suggest the Kia Seltos. In your budget, you will get the HTE (O) powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The engine is smooth, refined and has enough power for daily usage and even for highway driving, it feels enough. The new Seltos too feels premium inside out, and even in the bottom or in this case mid variant comes very well equipped.
The Tata Sierraโs 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine feels just about enough for city driving, but out on the highway, it could have done with more power. In your budget, you will get only the base Smart + variant, or if you stretch by 50,000 over your budget, then the Pure variant will fit. But the Sierra in the lower variants is not that well equipped. In fact, the base variant doesโt come with an infotainment at all.
The Skoda Kushaq facelift will be launched in March 2026, and if you are willing to wait, do glance at it. It will come with revised design and more features than the current car.

Dear Autocar India Team, Iโm planning to buy a mid-size SUV for my father, who is currently using a Hyundai Elite i20. After shortlisting options, I am considering the Skoda Kylaq Classic Plus variant. Recently, I watched your video/article mentioning that Skoda has upgraded the AC compressor on the Skoda Kushaq to improve cooling performance. I would like to know: Has this upgraded AC compressor also been introduced on the Skoda Kylaq (specifically the Classic Plus variant), or is it exclusive to the updated Kushaq? There are also discussions about Skoda introducing a new 8-speed automatic gearbox. Is Skoda planning to offer this 8-speed automatic on the Kylaq in the near future, or will it continue with the existing 6-speed automatic? Your clarification will greatly help me make an informed purchase decision. Thank you for your time and continued insightful automotive coverage.
The update to the AC has only been implemented on the Kushaq, as it was necessary and a weak point. The Kylaq already has good AC performance and a variable geometry compressor. As for the gearbox, there is no confirmation on a new gearbox for the Kylaq, as the 6-speed torque converter suits the engine well.

Is the facelifted Skoda Kushaq 1.5 DSG Monte Carlo really worth considering? While it lacks features like ADAS and a 360-degree camera, now almost standard in many competitors, it still looks appealing. Compared to the fully loaded Kia Seltos, which one actually makes more sense as a purchase? I drive about 30 kilometres in the city daily, but will be using it for more highway driving in the future.
The new Kushaq in Monte Carlo trim certainly looks stunning, and though it doesnโt have ADAS and a 360 degree camera, we donโt think these are reasons not to buy the car if you find it appealing. Also, if you are going to be driving a lot on the highway in the future, the Kushaq with the 1.5 TSI engine and 7-speed DSG is a fantastic powertrain for high speed driving.
The Kia Seltos, as you say, is a more sensible purchase, has more space and features and is a better all-rounder. But the Seltos doesnโt offer the same joy of driving as the Kushaq, which you will enjoy with every long drive.

Please suggest a worthy mid-size safety SUV within the budget of 15 to 20 lakhs, other than Tata and Mahindra.
Since you value safety and don't want anything from Tata or Mahindra, we suggest you take a closer look at the recently unveiled Skoda Kushaq facelift. The Kushaq is a midsize SUV that's big on safety, as it gets 6 airbags and the pre-facelift model even managed a full, 5-star crash safety rating from Global NCAP.
The Kushaq facelift also gets more features than before, like a segment-first massaging function for the rear seats, and it even gets a new 8-speed torque converter gearbox option. Engine options remain the same, though - a 115hp, 1.0-litre turbo petrol and a 150hp, 1.5-litre turbo petrol.
Thanks to the punchy engines and the great ride comfort and handling balance, the Kushaq is the one to go for if you enjoy driving. Prices for the Skoda Kushaq facelift are yet to be announced, but expect them to fall within your budget of Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh.
