MG Hector Tomahawk EV price & variants
The MG Tomahawk EV is available in Excite, Exclusive and Essence trims. All trims come with a 69.2kWh battery pack, providing a single-charge range of 517km (MIDC rated). The range-starting Excite and mid-spec Exclusive trims are available in just the 7-seater layout, while the top-spec Essence trim offers a choice between 5- and 7-seater layouts.
Excite: Right from the range-starting Excite trim, the Hector Tomahawk EV packs a long list of features. These include 18-inch alloy wheels, LED projector headlights, AC vents for all rows, an 8.8-inch driver's display, a 12.8-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, six speakers and more. However, it misses out on a couple of passenger comfort features that higher trims offer, so it can be skipped.
Exclusive: The mid-spec Exclusive trim is the one we recommend for the MG Hector Tomahawk EV. Compared to the base Excite, it adds front ventilated seats, a 50W wireless charger with cooling and a powered tailgate, features that should appeal to buyers of such an EV. With the BaaS option, the upfront cost can be reduced significantly. Buyers who want the five-seat version will have to choose the top-spec Essence trim, as it is the only one available with this seating configuration.
Essence: Compared to the Exclusive trim, the Essence trim adds Level 2 ADAS, a larger 15.6-inch touchscreen, a 10-speaker Infinity sound system, vehicle-to-home (V2H) charging support and much more. Buyers who want the five-seat version will have to choose the top-spec Essence trim, as it is the only one available with this seating configuration. Considering the list of additional features, the Essence trim is priced on the higher side.
MG Hector Tomahawk EV Expert Review
We like
Cabin and cargo space
Easy to drive for its size
Well equipped
We don't like
Cabin quality could be better
Suspension noise
Over-reliance on touchscreen
6
The Tomahawk EV is larger than the Mahindra XEV 9S in every dimension except width and has 230mm of ground clearance. Its clean, handsome design features a squared-off front, slim LED headlights, chunky cladding and intricate LED tail-lights. However, the 18-inch wheels look slightly small and the overall design lacks the imposing, butch stance of some rivals.
8
The Tomahawk EV has a spacious, airy cabin with soft-touch materials and comfortable, wide seats. Its long wheelbase translates into excellent second-row legroom, while the 7-seat version offers reasonable third-row space for shorter journeys. Boot space ranges from 192 litres with all three rows up to 528 litres with the third row folded. Some areas of fit and finish, particularly the centre console, could be better.
8
The 15.6-inch touchscreen, 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, 10-speaker Infinity audio system, panoramic sunroof, 256-colour ambient lighting and connected-car tech make the Tomahawk well equipped. The top Essence trim gets Level 2 ADAS, while six airbags, ESP, all-wheel disc brakes and ISOFIX mounts are standard. However, the infotainment system can require navigating through several sub-menus.
7
The 69.2kWh LFP battery powers a front-mounted motor producing 204hp and 310Nm, with a claimed 0-100kph time of 8.2sec. Throttle response is mild initially but becomes more aggressive under hard acceleration, resulting in some torque steer. The motor itself is fairly quiet, although suspension noise is noticeable over rough surfaces.
8
MG claims an MIDC range of 517km. In testing, the Tomahawk EV returned 4.85km/kWh over 192km, translating to a real-world range of around 336km. The 7.4kW AC charger takes about 12.5 hours for a 10-100 percent charge, while DC charging at up to 90kW can take the battery from 30-80 percent in around 35 minutes.
7
The Tomahawk EV is a significant improvement over the ICE Hector, with a mature ride that absorbs most road imperfections well. Its light steering, excellent visibility and good body control make it surprisingly easy to drive for its size. However, sharper bumps can expose some firmness and the strong torque delivery through the front wheels can affect steering feel when driven hard.
8
Priced from Rs 19.49 lakh to Rs 23.49 lakh, the Tomahawk EV undercuts similarly specified rivals while offering a large battery, strong performance, a spacious cabin and a comprehensive feature list. Its relatively relaxed driving character and practicality make it well suited to buyers who prioritise comfort and space, although its dynamic polish falls short of some newer EVs.

Questions you may find useful
I am planning to buy my first EV with a budget of around Rs. 25 lakh. Currently driving a Tata Nexon Petrol. I am confused between the MG Hector Tomahawk EV (on-road Rs. 24.7 lakh) and the Mahindra XEV 9e Pack Two 70 kWh (on-road Rs. 26.2 lakh, which may come close to Rs. 25 lakh with festive discounts). I like the Hector Tomahawk EV's minimalist interior and single-screen layout, which feels sufficient for my needs. However, the XEV 9e has much better road presence and looks more premium. I also prefer a clean dashboard over the XEV 9e's triple-screen setup. My priorities are reliability, family comfort, long-term ownership, daily usability, and value for money. I'm based in Hyderabad, and the MG showroom/service centre is very close to my home, which is a plus. Which one would you recommend and why?
It seems like you're leaning towards the MG Hector Tomahawk EV. This MG car is a well-priced three-row, feature-loaded EV. Even though we haven't extensively tested the Tomahawk EV yet, given our past experience with MG offerings, they deliver healthy range and are very easy to drive, with light controls. And having the flexibility of a third row of seats is something you don't get with the Mahindra XEV 9E. On the flip side, the Mahindra XEV 9e Pack Two 70kWh will not only be more efficient, resulting in better real-world range, but it is also nicer to drive, and certainly has stronger road presence. The festive discounts only improve its value quotient. In summary, the Hector Tomahawk EV is a good product, but the XEV 9e is a future-proof and better-engineered EV.
I am planning to buy my first EV with a budget of around Rs 25 lakh. I currently drive a Tata Nexon petrol and am confused between the MG Hector Tomahawk EV, which costs around Rs 24.7 lakh on-road, and the Mahindra XEV 9e Pack Two 70kWh, which costs around Rs 26.2 lakh on-road and could come closer to Rs 25 lakh with festive discounts. I like the minimalist interior and single-screen layout of the Hector Tomahawk EV. It feels practical and has all the features I need. However, I feel the XEV 9e has better road presence and overall appeal. I generally prefer a clean, simple dashboard over the triple-screen setup in the XEV 9e. My priorities are long-term ownership, reliability and service, family comfort, daily usability and value for money. I am based in Hyderabad, and the MG showroom and service centre are very close to my home, which is a significant advantage for convenience. Which one would you recommend and why?
Go for the MG Hector Tomahawk EV, as it seems to fit your brief better. While the Tomahawk EV is a new product, MG has a proven history with EVs in India, with models such as the ZS EV, Comet and Windsor, and more recently the M9 and Cyberster. This includes aftersales and service, with its dealerships well prepared to handle EVs, which should give you peace of mind when it comes to long-term ownership. As you have noted, the Tomahawk EV has a practical cabin and a clean interior without a passenger screen. The fact that the MG showroom and service center are very close to your home is also a significant advantage for long-term ownership and convenience. The Mahindra XEV 9e is a very good product with strong road presence, but the triple-screen setup is something you are not keen on, and it adds complexity that you do not need. It's also more powerful, and though it has the longer range on paper, in real-world use the difference may be less. The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is also better value for money at around Rs 24.7 lakh on-road, and it leaves room in your budget for a higher variant or additional accessories.
Sir, the Mahindra XEV 9S with a 59kWh battery has a claimed range of 521km, while the MG Hector Tomahawk with a larger 69.2kWh battery has a claimed range of 517km. Do you really think the MG Tomahawk would deliver a lower range than the XEV 9S despite having a larger battery?
The claimed range figures are based on the official MIDC test cycle, which is a laboratory test and not a real-world figure. The Mahindra XEV 9S and MG Hector Tomahawk EV are very different cars. The 9S is a more aerodynamic, lower-slung SUV, while the Hector Tomahawk EV is a larger, heavier SUV with a more upright body. Aerodynamics and weight play a huge role in efficiency, especially at higher speeds. So even though the MG has a bigger battery, it is also likely to be less efficient, which is why the claimed range is similar. In the real world, you should expect both cars to deliver significantly lower range than the claimed figures. The 9S will likely be the more efficient car, but the difference will not be as dramatic as the MIDC numbers suggest. The MG's larger battery will give it a slightly higher usable range, but it will also consume more energy per kilometre. Ultimately, the choice should be based on the car that best suits your needs rather than the claimed range figures.
The MG Hector Tomahawk EV has a 69.2kWh battery, which is 10.2kWh larger than the 59kWh unit in the Mahindra XEV 9S, yet both have almost identical claimed ranges of around 517km and 521km, respectively. What is the main reason for this difference: lower vehicle efficiency, aerodynamics, powertrain efficiency or battery characteristics? Based on your testing, would you expect the Tomahawk’s real-world range to be higher or lower than that of the XEV 9S 59kWh?
The MG Hector Tomahawk EV’s larger 69.2 kWh battery, delivering a similar claimed range to the Mahindra XEV 9S Pack One Above 59kWh (517 km vs 521 km) is primarily a reflection of vehicle efficiency rather than battery chemistry. The Hector Tomahawk EV is a larger, heavier SUV with a more upright body and a less aerodynamic shape, which naturally increases energy consumption per kilometre. The XEV 9S, while still a large SUV, is a more modern, ground-up EV with a sleeker design and a more efficient powertrain, allowing it to extract more range from a smaller battery. In real-world testing, we would expect the Hector Tomahawk EV to deliver a slightly higher absolute range than the XEV 9S 59 kWh, simply because of the larger battery. However, the difference is unlikely to be dramatic, and the Mahindra will remain the more efficient vehicle in terms of energy consumed per kilometre. The Hector Tomahawk EV’s advantage is range, not efficiency.
Hi, I am looking for my first EV. My daily driving is around 50 km from home to office, so I am looking for an EV priced around Rs. 25 lakh. I liked the Mahindra XEV 9S Pack 2, although it is slightly over my budget. I also like the MG Hector Tomahawk EV, which falls within my budget. I am confused between the two. Please guide me on which one would be a better choice for my requirements.
The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is definitely worth waiting for before making the final decision. On paper, it is a very strong proposition, especially at the price you are considering, and it could prove to be better value than the XEV 9e.However, the Tomahawk EV is a completely new product, so it is difficult to give a definitive verdict based purely on specifications. Real-world range, ride comfort, performance, refinement, charging experience and overall usability will only become clear after we have driven and tested it properly. The XEV 9s, meanwhile, is the more established choice and has already demonstrated that it is a capable, premium EV. If you are comfortable stretching your budget, it remains the safer choice today. But with your 50km daily commute and home charging, there is no particular need to rush into the XEV 9s.
