Hello, I am planning to buy an EV that I need for a daily commute 170 km out which 80 km is on expressway. Rest is on state highway and city with heavy vehicle traffic. I am looking for a comfortable 7-seater for long term for at least next 8-10 years. I am inclined towards MG Tomahawk top trim and XEV 9s pack two Above 70kWh. Please advise.
With your 170km daily commute, including 80km on the expressway, the Tomahawk EV is a very strong fit. The 69.2kWh battery gives it a claimed 517km range, while our first drive review found it delivered 4.85km/kWh in a fast highway run, translating to around 336km of real-world range. That gives you a useful buffer for your daily commute. For your requirement of a comfortable 7-seater, the Tomahawk also has a spacious second row with excellent legroom, reclining seats and good third-row access. The third row is usable for adults on shorter journeys, although boot space with all three rows up is limited. The XEV 9S Pack Two Above 70 is the more sophisticated and performance-oriented option, but the Tomahawk's strengths are better aligned with your priorities: comfort, space and easy highway cruising. Our first drive also found it surprisingly easy to drive despite its size, with excellent visibility and light steering. The only concern is that the Tomahawk is a new EV, so there is no established 8–10 year ownership track record yet. An extended warranty would therefore be worth considering.
Hi, I am looking for my first EV. My daily driving is around 50 km from home to office, so I am looking for an EV priced around Rs. 25 lakh. I liked the Mahindra XEV 9S Pack 2, although it is slightly over my budget. I also like the MG Hector Tomahawk EV, which falls within my budget. I am confused between the two. Please guide me on which one would be a better choice for my requirements.
The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is definitely worth waiting for before making the final decision. On paper, it is a very strong proposition, especially at the price you are considering, and it could prove to be better value than the XEV 9e.However, the Tomahawk EV is a completely new product, so it is difficult to give a definitive verdict based purely on specifications. Real-world range, ride comfort, performance, refinement, charging experience and overall usability will only become clear after we have driven and tested it properly. The XEV 9s, meanwhile, is the more established choice and has already demonstrated that it is a capable, premium EV. If you are comfortable stretching your budget, it remains the safer choice today. But with your 50km daily commute and home charging, there is no particular need to rush into the XEV 9s.
I am planning to buy my first EV with a budget of around Rs. 25 lakh. Currently driving a Tata Nexon Petrol. I am confused between the MG Hector Tomahawk EV (on-road Rs. 24.7 lakh) and the Mahindra XEV 9e Pack Two 70 kWh (on-road Rs. 26.2 lakh, which may come close to Rs. 25 lakh with festive discounts). I like the Hector Tomahawk EV's minimalist interior and single-screen layout, which feels sufficient for my needs. However, the XEV 9e has much better road presence and looks more premium. I also prefer a clean dashboard over the XEV 9e's triple-screen setup. My priorities are reliability, family comfort, long-term ownership, daily usability, and value for money. I'm based in Hyderabad, and the MG showroom/service centre is very close to my home, which is a plus. Which one would you recommend and why?
It seems like you're leaning towards the MG Hector Tomahawk EV. This MG car is a well-priced three-row, feature-loaded EV. Even though we haven't extensively tested the Tomahawk EV yet, given our past experience with MG offerings, they deliver healthy range and are very easy to drive, with light controls. And having the flexibility of a third row of seats is something you don't get with the Mahindra XEV 9E. On the flip side, the Mahindra XEV 9e Pack Two 70kWh will not only be more efficient, resulting in better real-world range, but it is also nicer to drive, and certainly has stronger road presence. The festive discounts only improve its value quotient. In summary, the Hector Tomahawk EV is a good product, but the XEV 9e is a future-proof and better-engineered EV.
I am planning to buy my first EV with a budget of around Rs 25 lakh. I currently drive a Tata Nexon petrol and am confused between the MG Hector Tomahawk EV, which costs around Rs 24.7 lakh on-road, and the Mahindra XEV 9e Pack Two 70kWh, which costs around Rs 26.2 lakh on-road and could come closer to Rs 25 lakh with festive discounts. I like the minimalist interior and single-screen layout of the Hector Tomahawk EV. It feels practical and has all the features I need. However, I feel the XEV 9e has better road presence and overall appeal. I generally prefer a clean, simple dashboard over the triple-screen setup in the XEV 9e. My priorities are long-term ownership, reliability and service, family comfort, daily usability and value for money. I am based in Hyderabad, and the MG showroom and service centre are very close to my home, which is a significant advantage for convenience. Which one would you recommend and why?
Go for the MG Hector Tomahawk EV, as it seems to fit your brief better. While the Tomahawk EV is a new product, MG has a proven history with EVs in India, with models such as the ZS EV, Comet and Windsor, and more recently the M9 and Cyberster. This includes aftersales and service, with its dealerships well prepared to handle EVs, which should give you peace of mind when it comes to long-term ownership. As you have noted, the Tomahawk EV has a practical cabin and a clean interior without a passenger screen. The fact that the MG showroom and service center are very close to your home is also a significant advantage for long-term ownership and convenience. The Mahindra XEV 9e is a very good product with strong road presence, but the triple-screen setup is something you are not keen on, and it adds complexity that you do not need. It's also more powerful, and though it has the longer range on paper, in real-world use the difference may be less. The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is also better value for money at around Rs 24.7 lakh on-road, and it leaves room in your budget for a higher variant or additional accessories.
Hi, I currently own a Hyundai Verna 1.5 Turbo DCT, Kia Carens Clavis DCT and Tata Altroz. After the launch of the Kia Sorento, I am quite interested in it. Would it be worth selling my one-year-old Carens Clavis and upgrading to the Sorento HTE (O) Hybrid, or would it be better to retain the Clavis and instead purchase the MG Hector Tomahawk EV? Please advise. My daily running is also expected to increase to around 70 km per day in the future.
With a daily running of around 70km, the financial case for an EV becomes very strong, provided you have access to home charging. The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is a large, comfortable SUV with a spacious cabin and a long range, making it well suited to your usage pattern. It will also deliver significantly lower running costs compared to a hybrid or petrol car.The Kia Sorento HTE (O) Hybrid is a very appealing product, but the fuel savings are not as dramatic as those of a well-used EV. Selling a one-year-old Carens Clavis will also involve a depreciation hit that is difficult to justify unless the Sorento offers something you genuinely need. The Clavis DCT is already a very capable family car, and there is no compelling reason to replace it after just one year. The smarter move is to retain the Clavis and add the Hector Tomahawk EV as your primary daily driver. This way, you get the best of both worlds: an efficient, low-cost commuter and a practical family car for longer trips.
The mid-spec Exclusive trim is the one we recommend for the MG Hector Tomahawk EV, as it packs a good mix of convenience features that should appeal to buyers of such an EV.
Level 2 ADAS, front parking sensors, an auto-dimming IRVM, memory function for the driver's seat, a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a 10-speaker Infinity sound system and multi-colour ambient lights (256 colours) are some feature offered only in the range-topping Essence trim.
A 360-degree camera with Transparent Chassis view, rain-sensing wipers, ambient lighting (blue colour only), panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats at the front, 50W wireless charger with cooling, automatic headlights and a powered tailgate are some extra features that the MG Hector Tomahawk EV's Exclusive trim packs over Excite.
Yes, six airbags are offered as standard with the MG Hector Tomahawk EV. ABS with EBS, hill hold and all-four disc brakes are offered across trims as well.
