I am planning to buy an SUV within a budget of approximately 16 lakh. As I am a retired Naval Officer hence prefer to buy through CSD. I prefer to own a new Maruti Sajuki Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid variant. But am perplexed whether to go for the Tata Nexon (Top Variant) or the Strong Hybrid Grand Vitara. My usage of the vehicle is hardly for 5/6 days a month. Kindly advise a suitable vehicle for me, please. Regards.

With a budget of around Rs16 lakh, CSD eligibility, and very low usage of just 5-6 days a month, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid is the more sensible choice despite the higher upfront cost.
The Tata Nexon top variant makes sense if you want a more compact SUV with a strong feature list and a clear focus on safety. However, given your usage pattern, its advantages do not outweigh the Grand Vitara’s hybrid benefits.
The strong hybrid’s biggest strengths are exceptional fuel efficiency and ease of ownership. Even with limited use, it will be light on fuel, extremely smooth in city driving, and backed by Maruti’s vast service network, making it ideal for low-usage, stress-free ownership. The CSD pricing further improves its value proposition.
As an alternative to the Grand Vitara, you could also consider the Maruti Suzuki Victoris. It is mechanically similar but offers additional safety and convenience features, a 5-star BNCAP rating, better interior fit and finish, and is priced in the same ballpark.

I am looking for a good-looking, fuel-efficient, low-maintenance automatic car. My budget is below 20 lakh. Please suggest.

Considering your requirements, you should take a closer look at the Maruti Suzuki Victoris strong hybrid. The Victoris is Maruti's newest SUV that's stylish in look, and it comes with a petrol hybrid-eCVT automatic powertrain option that has a claimed mileage of 28.65kpl. The SUV has received a 5-star crash safety rating from Bharat NCAP, and it comes with features like a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera and much more.
Maruti Victoris strong hybrid prices range from Rs 16.38 lakh to Rs 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India), so it fits within your budget too. Being a Maruti car, the Victoris will also be stress-free to maintain.

My driving is mostly on highways. I am confused between the Honda City and the Victoris. Please advise.

It really depends on the kind of highways you will be driving on. If the surface is rough and strewn with potholes, the Maruti Victoris, being an SUV, will be a safe option. However, if the highway is wide and smooth, the City is better because it has a much stronger engine, which makes overtaking easy, and the lower stance makes it more stable at highway speeds as well.
Also, the Honda City offers a more comfortable rear seat, which is important if you are likely to be chauffeur-driven.

I want to buy an automatic SUV, which I will use for a 40 km daily city commute. I am looking for a reliable option within 20 lakh. My priorities are fuel efficiency and moderate maintenance cost.

Since your priority is fuel efficiency and a moderate maintenance cost, we would recommend the strong hybrid versions of either the Maruti Grand Vitara and its sister car, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, or even the Maruti Victoris, which uses the same platform and mechanicals.
In our standard test cycle, the strong hybrid version of the Grand Vitara returned an impressive 23.77kpl in the city and 20.39kpl on the highway, and you can expect something very similar with the Hyryder and the Victoris too.
In case you are wondering why the city mileage is better than the highway, this is typical of hybrid and electric cars, where the constant start-stop of city traffic helps charge the battery and thus improves the driving range. Furthermore, these SUVs are reliable and will come within your Rs 20 lakh budget.

I have a BS6 manual petrol Kia Seltos from 2019 and want to upgrade to a strong petrol hybrid automatic. I am also considering whether BS7 norms will become mandatory this year, so I’d prefer a BS7-compliant car if possible. What are my options under ₹25 lakh for a 5-seater SUV?

The best strong hybrid option for your budget right now is the Maruti-Suzuki Victoris. It is a part of having an efficient hybrid powertrain that is well-equipped and easy to drive.

You could also look at the Victoris’s sibling, the Grand Vitara Hybrid, which is being offered with some discounts now, as a facelift is coming soon. There is no timeframe announced for the implementation of BS7, and there are no BS7 cars available in the market either.

Getting a BS6 model today won’t make your car obsolete even when BS7 norms come, which is unlikely to be before 2028.

I am planning to buy a new SUV that should be an automatic petrol (not AMT). My monthly running is only about 2000 km, and my budget is ₹ 20-25lakh. Please suggest an automatic SUV with top features that fits my requirements.

For a monthly usage of 2000km, a hybrid option would be cost-effective. You could consider the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, or Maruti Grand Vitara, all of which share their underpinnings and feature-set. Besides being very fuel-efficient, these cars are equipped with all the modern features like ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, etc., with the only missing feature being ADAS.
The only differentiating factor between the three cars is their looks and interior colour theme, so pick the one that attracts you.

I am planning to buy the Maruti Victoris petrol automatic (ZXI Plus). The car will be used mainly for daily commuting in bumper-to-bumper traffic and occasionally through narrow lanes. My monthly running is around 1,000km. Does this purchase make sense for my usage?

Yes, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris Petrol AT is an easy-going, smooth midsize SUV that is well-suited for bumper-to-bumper commuting. The steering is light, the seating position is raised, visibility is good, and the top-spec also gets a 360-degree camera, which will come in handy while manoeuvring this car through tight spaces.
Performance isn't Victoris’s forte, but on the whole, it is well-equipped, practical, and refined. Overall, it is a sensible car you can't go wrong with.

I have been using a Maruti S-Cross since January 2016. It has been a very stable, low-maintenance, and no-nonsense car, although it lacks power. I am now looking to buy an SUV with similar qualities that is easy to drive in the city, offers at least a 4-star safety rating, has low maintenance costs, and stays strictly below ₹22 lakh on-road. Please suggest.

The (strong) hybrid versions of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder or Maruti Suzuki Victoris will be ideal replacements for your no-nonsense, low-maintenance, and comfortable S-Cross. Both of these cars will fall within your budget, are similarly equipped, and share their very efficient yet peppy hybrid powertrain, so between the two, pick the one you think looks better.
Although not 4-star, the Victoris has a solid 5-star BNCAP safety rating. While the Hyryder hasn't been tested, if it does, it is likely to score similarly due to its shared underpinnings with the Maruti.

I want to buy a new car with good features, strong safety, attractive looks, and fuel economy. I have shortlisted two models-the Maruti Victoris ZXI+ (O) and the Toyota Hybridder petrol (V) model, and I’m not sure which one to choose. Please help me decide.

The two SUVs you've shortlisted are virtually the same under the skin, so choosing between them really comes down to preference. They both meet your criteria of safety, good looks and economy.

The Maruti Victoris has the slight edge on the Toyota Hyryder thanks to its slightly lower pricing, more modern tech and longer features list - including ADAS with Level 2 Autonomous driving.

While the Victoris has scored a 5-star rating from both Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP. The Hyryder is yet to be tested, but as they share the same mechanical make-up, its overall score shouldn't be too far off.

I am planning to upgrade my car from Maruti Ciaz and am considering the Maruti Victoris, Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate or Kia Seltos, with a maximum budget of ₹ 20 lakh. I need an automatic transmission and features such as a panaromic sunroof, good infotainment system, speakers, alloy wheels and ventilated seats. Which car and which variant should I opt for with a petrol automatic transmission? Is there any other apart from the one mentioned above? My weekly running will be around 250 km at max in Delhi NCR region.

Given your requirements, you should consider the Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Victoris strong hybrid. Since your usage is high, you'll benefit from the exceptional fuel efficiency of the same strong hybrid-petrol powertrain that powers all three. The Hyryder and Grand Vitara mileage is 27.97kpl, while the Victoris mileage is 28.65kpl, which is slightly higher (claimed).

All three SUVs also come equipped with all the features you want in their respective top-end trims - a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, alloy wheels, a touchscreen infotainment system and much more.

We would recommend you go for the Maruti Victoris since it's the newest of the lot. It has the most features and also a 5-star Bharat NCAP crash safety rating, which the other two don't have.

As for pricing, the top-spec Victoris ZXI+ (O) string hybrid is priced at Rs 19.99 lakh, while the Grand Vitara Alpha+ (O) costs Rs 19.72 lakh and the Hyryder V is priced at Rs 19.76 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
