Which car should I buy among Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Petrol base or Kia Seltos petrol base? And also tell me if anyone has faced power issue or pickup issue while overtaking as I want the car for long term.

Between the two, the Seltos is the better choice, especially if you are looking at the base variant. It feels more premium, is the newer product and offers a more complete package even in its lower variants. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol makes 115hp and 144Nm. It isn't a particularly powerful engine, but it is smooth and refined and is perfectly adequate for normal city driving. For overtaking, it won't have the punch of the Seltos turbo, but it isn't underpowered either. With a full load and during quick highway overtakes, you may need to plan ahead and use higher revs. The Grand Vitara's 1.5 petrol is also a smooth, simple powertrain, but its performance is more relaxed and the base variant is quite sparsely equipped.

My daily running is around 150 km, and I currently own a Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid, which gives me around 20 kmpl. I also don’t have a home charging facility, so buying an EV may not be viable for me. Considering these factors, could you please suggest an automatic SUV that is more frugal and easier on my pocket? My budget is around Rs. 25-30 lakh.

Your Grand Vitara strong hybrid is already one of the most fuel-efficient petrol SUVs available, and achieving 20kmpl is a strong result for that usage pattern. If your primary goal is to reduce running costs further, the most effective option is to move to a diesel car, as diesel engines are still the most cost-effective solution for high-mileage highway driving.Consider the Kia Seltos diesel automatic is also worth considering if you prefer a slightly more premium interior and a more compact package. Fuel efficiency will be impressive too, and the Seltos feels very modern compared to the Grand Vitara. If you want a larger vehicle, the XUV 7XO diesel automatic is a well-rounded SUV with a strong diesel engine, a comfortable ride and a spacious cabin. Do keep in mind that diesel engines are not as refined as hybrids, and also in city driving conditions, efficiency will be lower. However, diesel SUVs will be very efficient on the highway.

Hi everyone, I have a budget around 13 lakh and my annual running is around 8,000 km. I'm confused between buying a sedan or compact SUV like Kia Seltos etc. as I have sold my Tata Punch last month that I owned almost for 4.5 years but now I want to purchase good and elegant looking car that can last for 7 to 9 year without any hassle. Me and my wife have shortlisted cars like New Honda City SV variant, New Skoda Slavia Base one, or Upcoming Virtus in sedan segment. In suv segment, I have shortlisted cars like Seltos, Grand Vitara, etc. My wife wants to shortlist sedan. Please suggest me which one should I go for as it's the matter of investing my hard earned money. Also, which car will have good resale value in future.

Go for the Honda City SV petrol manual. With your annual running of 8,000km, petrol is the right choice, and the City is one of the most reliable and hassle-free cars you can buy. It is also a car that is known to last well beyond 7-9 years with proper maintenance, which fits your ownership plan. The SV variant gives you the essentials within your budget, and the City’s strong resale value and Honda's wide service network make it a sensible long-term investment. The Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus are both excellent to drive, but the City is the safer long-term bet. Skoda and Volkswagen have improved their ownership experience, but Honda still has the edge when it comes to reliability and peace of mind over a long ownership period. On the SUV side, the Seltos and Grand Vitara are both good cars, but at your budget you will be looking at base variants, and neither will have as much resale as the City.Since your wife prefers a sedan and you are looking for a car that will last without hassle, the Honda City SV is the best option.

I am currently driving an 11-year-old Honda Brio manual in Pune and am looking to upgrade to a naturally aspirated petrol automatic SUV with either a CVT or torque-converter automatic. I do not want a sunroof, and the budget is under Rs 18 lakh. My daily running is around 10-12km, with occasional weekend drives and one or two annual trips of around 500-600km. I have shortlisted the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Zeta AT and Honda Elevate VX CVT, although the Elevate does come with a sunroof. Most of the driving will be in the city. Between the two, which would be more fuel-efficient, particularly with E20 petrol, offer good ride quality, and be reliable and easy to maintain over the next 10-15 years? Are there any other vehicles worth considering? I am not interested in EVs or petrol DCT/DSG powertrains. Thank you.

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Zeta AT. It is the better fit for your requirements. The naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with the torque converter automatic is a proven, reliable combination that will serve you well over a long ownership period. The Grand Vitara also offers a comfortable ride, good rear seat space and a spacious cabin. Maruti's service network and low maintenance costs further strengthen its case for long-term ownership. The Honda Elevate VX CVT is also a good car, but Honda's CVT is not as refined as a torque converter automatic. The Grand Vitara's automatic is smoother and more predictable in everyday driving. Fuel efficiency between the two will be broadly similar, with the Grand Vitara having a slight edge in real-world conditions.Given your preference for a non-sunroof variant, the Grand Vitara Zeta is the more suitable choice. The Honda Elevate VX comes with a sunroof, which you specifically want to avoid. Overall, the Grand Vitara Zeta AT is the more complete package for your needs.

I have a budget of Rs. 10-11 lakh, and my monthly running is on the lower side. Which car would be the best choice for me? I am confused between the Mahindra XUV 3XO RevX M(O), Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXi, and the base variants of the Maruti Suzuki Victoris and Grand Vitara. I prefer cars with good interiors. Which car should I go for?

Verified

Go for the Mahindra XUV 3XO Rev X M(O). With low monthly running, petrol is the right choice, and the 3XO offers the most complete package in your budget. It has the most spacious cabin of the three, a nice premium interior feel and a strong feature set even in the M(O) variant. The Brezza VXi is also an option and the more sensible one in terms of long-term ownership experience. The Victoris and Grand Vitara base models are solid cars, but the base variants feel sparse, and you miss out on the features that make them feel premium. The 3XO also has a strong safety rating and a wide cabin, making it a genuinely comfortable five-seater. The only real drawback is that the boot is on the smaller side, but overall it is the best balance of interior quality, space and features in your budget.
