I’m a beginner (5'6") planning to buy a bike next year. My top choice is the Triumph Scrambler 400X, which I’ve admired since early 2024. I’m torn between that and the newly launched TVS Apache RTX 300, which offers cruise control and a bi-directional quick shifter. I’ll use the bike for daily office commutes, occasional weekend rides, and some soft-trail riding. Which one should I pick — and are there other expert-recommended alternatives?

Since you are a beginner, we'd suggest that you start with something a little less powerful and easier to manage. As you've mentioned that you have an interest in mild off-road riding, the Hero Xpulse 210 would be a great place to start. It is a fun bike to ride, very comfortable in the city, and it will be a good motorcycle for you to hone your off-road skills on. Once you've gained some confidence, you can look at bigger ADV motorcycles. But if your heart is set on one of the above two bikes that you mentioned, we'd recommend you try out the Apache RTX 300

I want to upgrade from my CBZ Extreme (2012). I’m 6'2", 70 kg. My daily commute is 20 km, and I do occasional weekend trips with my wife. I’m looking for an adventure bike with decent mileage and better pillion comfort. My budget is ₹2.5 lakh. You can also suggest cruiser options.

For your usage, in the cruiser space, you can take a look at the Royal Enfield Classic / Bullet 350 as well as any of the three Honda CB350 models. All bikes have relaxed, smooth engines, spacious seats and great suspension comfort.

In the ADV space, options like the TVS Apache RTX 300 and KTM 250 Adventure can be considered for their punchy - but not overwhelming - performance, spacious seats and comfortable ride quality, as well as luggage carrying capability.

Take thorough test rides of all shortlisted options before you decide.

I’m planning to buy a bike next year (around August). I want a mid-range model (<300 cc) with ground clearance >175 mm, a comfortable pillion seat, and adventure-style capability. I won’t commute daily, but my rides are long when I do them, so good mileage is important. I plan to start longer trips from 2027 and prefer to avoid brands with higher maintenance costs (e.g., Yamaha). Could you suggest suitable models?

Considering your requirements, we would recommend you choose between the KTM 250 Adventure and TVS Apache RTX 300. Both have good performance, are spacious, have comfortable suspension, more than enough ground clearance and will be fuel efficient because of their smaller displacement. Between the two, our pick would be the RTX because of its lower price point while offering more performance and features.

I’ve been riding an Avenger Street 220 for the past seven years. I’m now looking to upgrade to something more powerful with better suspension for rough roads. My daily ride is at least 50 km, and occasionally I ride up to 150 km a day. I’m considering the TVS Apache RTX 300 and the Honda CB350. Please advise.

The Honda CB350 models are comfortable motorcycles with plush suspension and a neutral rider’s triangle, so any of them would be a safe choice. You can also consider the Royal Enfield Bullet 350 or Classic 350, as both offer an upright riding position, great suspension, and comfort.
Coming to the TVS Apache RTX 300, this bike will be the most comfortable among all the suggested options because of its format. It will also pack in better performance than the air-cooled 350s if that's important to you.

I’m planning to upgrade to a new bike - something in the around 300 cc class with adventure styling and good comfort. It will be used mostly in the city, with occasional touring too. Could you suggest suitable models for this usage?

The most compelling option in the 300cc space currently is the TVS Apache RTX 300, with its peppy performance, great comfort and extensive feature list at a tantalizing price. Since this is a very new product, we would advise you to wait for a while before purchasing it, so any teething issues that emerge can be ironed out. Something that's similarly priced and capable is the KTM 250 Adventure, which is also worth considering.

I’m 5'9" tall and weigh over 95 kg. I usually travel on weekends within the city and often encounter bad roads. Scooters like the Activa feel uncomfortable. I’m considering the Hero Xpulse, but reviews mention the pillion seat isn’t comfortable. I didn't like the other options in retro style. Should I go for the Xpulse or consider alternatives?

The Hero Xpulse 210 is a great bike for rough or broken roads thanks to its neutral riding position and plush long-travel suspension. Regarding pillion comfort, it’s best to take your pillion along for a test ride to check if it suits your needs.
If you can stretch your budget slightly, consider the Suzuki V-Strom SX or TVS Apache RTX 300. Both of these bikes offer spacious seats for rider and pillion and similar or better performance than the Xpulse.

I’m looking for a new bike for my 35 km daily commute in heavy Bengaluru traffic with rough, pothole-filled roads. I need a comfortable ride with good suspension.

Since you haven't specified your budget or capacity restrictions, we'll recommend multiple options across various price bands. Any 150/160cc commuter like the Bajaj Pulsar N160, TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, Suzuki Gixxer, and Honda SP160/Unicorn will be comfortable on a daily basis while also being fuel efficient.
Other options as you move up the price band are the Hero Xpulse 210, Suzuki V-Strom SX, TVS Apache RTX 300, and the Royal Enfield Bullet/Classic 350. Take a thorough test ride of each bike before putting your money down to understand which one fits you best.

I own a Honda CB H’ness 350, but I don’t feel connected with it. I’ve been a big fan of KTM since my first bike, the Duke 125. I’m now looking for an option with good pillion comfort. My usage is mostly city rides, with occasional touring with a pillion. My maximum budget is ₹3 lakh (ex-showroom). I’m 5'6" tall and weigh 80kg.

Since you mentioned having a good experience with KTM, you can consider the KTM 250 Adventure, which is a good option for road touring with a pillion.
Another bike we recommend is the new TVS Apache RTX 300 for its comfortable suspension, spacious ergonomics, and great pricing. Do note that the RTX is an all-new model, so there might be some minor teething issues initially.

I own a Hero Xpulse 200 4V and want to upgrade to a bigger adventure bike. I recently test-rode a 450 and liked its power and ride comfort. Could you suggest other suitable options in this budget, and should I wait until next year to purchase?

The Himalayan 450 is a good upgrade. There was a new Mana Black variant of the Himalayan 450 unveiled at EICMA 2025, which gets accessories to make it more rugged, along with cross-spoked wheels. Other ADVs you can check out are the KTM 390 Adventure X and the TVS RTX 300. We expect the BMW F 450 GS to be launched in India next year, and that looks really promising. We suggest you take a test ride of all bikes before making a purchase.

I’m planning to buy a new bike - Hero Xpulse 210 or TVS Apache RTX 300. My old Xpulse 200T has a stiffer suspension, and my monthly commute is around 2,000 km, mostly on unpaved roads. Which one would be better?

Both bikes have good suspension and will be quite comfortable on broken roads you may traverse during your commute. The Xpulse 210 will, of course, have a lower performance ceiling compared to the larger Apache RTX 300. However, it will be more affordable to buy and maintain since it’s a simpler and smaller machine.

Considering that the RTX is a brand-new product built on a new platform, we would recommend going with the Xpulse in case any teething issues emerge on the TVS.
